RE: Progressive HW50C Reading high voltage

Had the same problem, adusted the voltage reading on the Progressive(was off by about 7 volts), no problem since. How did you accomplish that? Couple of years back, but I believe it was a Pot adjustment. Was at the Tampa RV show and talked with Progressive who verified(but did not approve the adjustment). At the time about seven coaches using Generated power were having problems with the Progressive units(as the generated voltage was marginally close to the Progressive tolerances-so we thought), we verified actual Voltage and found the Progressive unit was off-so adjusted accordingly and have had no problems since(did have the problem previously a couple of times, but did not realize the unit was off at that time).

RE: New Tiffin Class A

IF it got 15 mpg and your/my coach gets 7.5 mpg and fuel stays at $3.00/gal. a savings over 50,000 miles would be $10,000. Not my idea of value vs comfort unless you just want a small motorhome!

RE: When Is Windshield Crack Too Large?

Just replaced windshield after drilling at the end of the crack failed to stop it. If its not in line of vision would not worry about it until the opportune time arrives(in our case we were passing near the Newmar factory).

RE: Use of motorcycle lift on motorhome

Uncovered Wrong answer. Covered with the right cover is the answer. The right cover is a GatorHyde cover which has a fleece undercover(no damage to paint) and a neopreme over cover which is bungied tight. Used one for three years(30,000 miles) absolutely no damage and no dirt.

RE: Allison Trans..Economy or Standard Mode?

The shift difference is noticable on hills/mountain-need to turn economy off. Fuel consumption seems insignificant.

RE: Radiators in Diesel Pushers; Side vs Rear, and MPG

Mid-Engine side radiator, forward of left rear wheel here with access for maintenance thru side door(maybe best design of all). Would not recommend taking a rear radiator to Alaska.

RE: Country Coach

And this is just me personally.....while I have no second thoughts about spending $140K on a used CC....there is NO WAY Im going to spend that sort of loot on a coach from EBAY unless its parked in my driveway for me to go over personally. Agree with up the chain. Did get a great deal on a Rubicon from EBAY(but did not know for sure until physical inspection-2000 round trip).

RE: Anyone Buying a New Motorhome?

Class A were a bargain from last fall until early summer this year with discounts well above 30% available. While traveling over 20,000 miles this year we have seen the inventories of Class As diminish significantly as manufacturers were either shut down or reduced output. The result is now prices are, for the most part, back to normal.

RE: Residential stacked washer / dryer?

Got a residential combo now for three years-no problem! Had stack W/D in my boat for 10 years(actually was in the bow of the boat)traveling as far as South America-no problem. The "bouncing" in a motorhome is minimal compared to a boat.

RE: Who's driven the Alcan Hwy to Alaska?

Only second on my list(if you count the Cassier/TOW/Canadian Rockies) to fishing my boat to Venezuela. Still looking for the next 100 for my list.

RE: Man Versus Mice

A man at Orchard Supply taught me this trick. The metal part on the trap needs to be stepped on to catch the mouse. What you do is cut a 2'x2' piece from a cardboard box. The corrugated type. Slip the cardboard into the metal part and bait it so the mouse has to step on the cardboard to get the bait. That's how the "new" Victor traps are made!

RE: Man Versus Mice

Found the older style Victor snap trap would not work with small mice. Went with the newer larger platform Victor with peanut butter and cheese worked great! Now for the Pack Rats, when gold prospecting in Montana, we left the hood up on the Jeep but with the Mid-Engine coach had to put a light on top of the engine-what a collection of goods they bring in!

RE: Class A or Fifth Wheel

Simple answer: If you are planning on spending a significant amount of time(3 months or more) in one place and not driving much, definitely go with the 5th wheel(provides much more living space for less money, if money is a conern)-not really fulltiming. If you are really fulltiming traveling a lot with limited stays go with the Class A(more money but much more convenience)-much easier to set up and much easier to drive(and a lot more fun than a truck pulling a trailer) the toad car then a large truck.

RE: Excessive ideling!

Don't know for sure, but when we were in Florida last winter everyone made sure their rigs ran for at least 30 minutes once a month. Local logic was it kept things lubed. I followed local logic, no problems. Wow, wonder where you stayed(we wouold have shut them down in a heartbeat)? We had a few Captains who ran their diesel boat engines once a week when not being used-they were the only ones who had continuous engine problems! Without aload not a good thin!

RE: Inverter Question

If you do any amount of dry camping you will not leave your inverter on all the time. Even with no load it will significantly reduce the time between battery charges. We can double the time between battery chargers by turning off the inverter at night.

RE: solar panel for class A coach

And for the money ($850) hard to beat the Honda EU2000i. Just spent over 100 days dry camping this year burning less than a gallon every 4 days for $75 cost of fuel. The Honda maintains our 4 house batteries which we use for TVs, coffee pot, etc. No hastle setting up and quiet. Used the big jenny maybe 5 times. Dave: Do you charge directly off the genset itself...OR...do you run a separate battery charger plugged into the genset?? Yes, thru the shore cable. We set the Inverter/Charger to10amps and use the remaining 10amps for tvs, etc.

RE: solar panel for class A coach

What side of the mountains you camp in will make a big difference in how much solar you will need. I live in the West side and get up to 20a on a good sunny day. When it is cloudy or rainy I get zip. I carry a Honda EU 1000i and it does the battery charging when solar won't keep up which is most of the time. Solar will never replace the generator in our part of the world (-: Jim And for the money ($850) hard to beat the Honda EU2000i.
