RE: new versus used

I happened to buy mine new because I got rock bottom quotes from RV Direct and talked with several dealers. I said match it or beat it. A couple matched it and then I went to work on them and got one to beat the quote and bought local. On the other hand though, if you are looking to buy used you can find some gems out there if you know what to look for and save some cash. If buying private and the seller has it at their home, look at the sellers property, motor vehicles, boats, lawns etc. If it is all neat, clean, and in pristine shape the trailer is going to be more than a quick wash and clean up job for a quick sell. Things like that are a good indicator of how people treat their stuff. When I first started camping I bought a used pop up from a dealer. I could tell right away I found a gem because the thing was incredibly clean and when I opened up the awning the instructions and awning stakes fell out in factory packaging. I camped in it for a couple years and when I sold it the guy that bought it told me to call him if I ever was to sell my travel trailer. He observed my truck and property and knew I took care of my stuff. Just do your homework if buying used and you should be good to go. Good luck.

RE: Help with running lights

I am thinking the 7 pin connector as mentioned. If that turns out to be the problem, after you clean them up and straighten out the prongs etc get youself some dielectric grease from any autoparts store and apply small amount to prongs on 7 pin. Works great on bulb sockets too. One can lasts a very long time.

RE: Confused

I recently decided to get my wife more interested in some of the things I do to promote harmony in the household. Last week-end I took her hunting. In fact, I even let her wear my lucky hunting hat. No more problems!! > > > > > > > > > > > http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u122/javaseuf/deer.jpg height=300 width=300 Now that is downright funny!!!!!!!

RE: Front receiver for Silverado

dbcc186, Just google front receivers for your year, make, model of truck and it will give you several kinds of receivers and places to purchase one. Thanks, I did do that and there are so many out there. Some you have to drill, some you may have to drill, some have to trim it in etc. I am hoping someone might have same truck and can relate their experiences with their particular hitch.

RE: Front receiver for Silverado

Bodiak front hitch mounts to your tow hooks.Very easy install,I'm pleased with mine. I went to Bodiak site and they apparently only have them for 2500 Silverados and I have a 1500. Do you have yours on a half ton? I really like them and looks like a piece of cake to install.

Front receiver for Silverado

I have an 02 Silverado 1500 EC 4X4 and I am looking into front mounted receivers. Anyone with similiar TV that has this type of front hitch? I am interested in what brands, websites to check and a no drill, no cutting install if possible. It will be used to carry some bicycles. Sick of winter already........

RE: Water Heater problems

Glad your water heater is up and running and it did not hurt in the wallet. Nice easy fix. I will have to remember this post if I ever have a problem with my Atwood. Very informative.

RE: Leak near awning

Try VLP- Vinyl Like Patch Most RV parts stores should carry this. Stuff works great. I used it on some pinhole type leaks on my old pop up and it never leaked again. Used it on a minor seam leak on my awning on TT and worked well

RE: Towing w/ snow & salt ??

I say keep it home. That thing is brand spanking new. I don't know how many people you will have with you and if they are partying a lot, but if you are going to have several people there with you and drinking NO WAY. Drunk guys almost always miss when they use the facilities, never mind cramped in a small RV bathroom. Too many things can go wrong and you may regret it. SALT is no good for the undercarriage of that trailer.

RE: Roof issue

Excellent advice, keep it coming. Has anyone had issues like this with the staples or screw? Thanks I definitely plan on doing the Eternabond thing once my warranty is through.

Roof issue

I have an 08 Jayco Jayflight 29BHS G2. I had the trailer in for a roof inspection last fall because I noticed some bubbles in several areas. Nothing too pronounced, but enough to make me bring it in. Dealer talked to Jayco and they said to monitor it as this is quite common and should not be a problem. The trailer continued to have some bubbles showing now and again and they actually seemed to come and go with varying temperatures and humidity levels. The colder it got the less pronounced they seemed to be. I was giving the trailer a bath in the late this fall after winterizing, and upon inspecting the roof I noticed that along both sides of trailer that several staples appear to be backing out slightly. The area in question is where the rubber roof meets the gutter area and this problem runs length of both sides of the trailer. I also noticed that there is either a screw or nail backing out from one of the wooden roof joists underneath the rubber. This is in area of the FM whip antenna. I brought it into dealer and they appeared to be genuinely interested in resolving the problem and told me they would photograph this and send it to Jayco. I was told that if a roof removal was ordered that it could be done there or sent back to factory if Jayco chooses but that usually costs them around two grand to do this so they may shy away if dealer can do it. Dealer is very reputable (Campers Inn Raynham,Ma) and they resolved a window issue for me last year that another dealer was not able to do. Job came out nice and neat and I was pleased. So, does anyone have any advice as to what I should expect, what to say, things that I should insist on etc etc. I am thinking I should insist it be brought back to factory if they intend on removing roof. My only concern with this is I would not have it back by early spring. Sorry so long. Thank you.

RE: Inexperience, 4WD, driving + icy roads

A lot of times it is someone behind the wheel that is here illegaly, is unlicensed, and has never seen snow before. You read the police logs in the paper after a snowstorm and look at the names of people involved in accidents. The names look like someone took a bucket of Scrabble gamepieces, dumped them on the floor, and put letters next to each other and come up with something no one can pronounce. Thats my .02 cents.

RE: broken down in Muskogee, OK - need mechanic

Go after them tooth and nail to pay your repair bill in FULL. These places charging us outrageous amounts of OUR money to pay you.

RE: Snakes

Get underneath that trailer with a mechanics creeper and caulk the snot out of every seam, crevice, nook, and cranny. Even if you think something is to small for a rodent to get in, it is not.

RE: Purchased a trailer...what was I thinking?

Take more time off work and get a girlfriend. There now no more worries. Are you just going to work until you die? I think you bought the trailer because there is a voice inside that says you need a break. Took the words right out of my mouth....... You are so lucky to live where you do. You can camp year round. Live it up!

RE: Vent insulation idea

I had a sheet of inch thick rigid insulation laying around with a foil like skin. Cut it into a 14in X 14in piece. Put velcro tape on two sides and two pieces on bottom of vent opening. We put it in when we go to sleep because it keeps light out well and insulates very good too

RE: 2003 Chevy 2500 Tow Vehicle

Is it a dealer or private sale? Are there any maintance records available? If the truck was maintained well, not abused, and priced right you may have a deal. Also, is it a one owner, 2nd owner? Is it a S.C. titled truck? If that truck is from out of state walk away. Especially if it is from up my way in New England. Could have been used to plow and there may be undercarriage rust if it was not run through car wash in winter months. Sorry to throw all this at you. Don't want to see you get screwed. The truck is a private sale, drove good and seems like a good deal. A few things I did not like was the truck is a 3 owner, originally from Florida, no maint records, and the tires had uneven wear. I think I will pass on this truck and wait for another deal. Thanks for everyone's input. Sounds like a wise decision. Keep searching and you'll find a great truck soon. Good luck.
