RE: Gas tow vehicles

It's been discontinued for 2011 in the Super Dutys, except I guess as carringb states, the F350 DRW. Then how about this? V10 in 2011 F450 & F550 Chassis Cabs

RE: Gas tow vehicles

It has been discontinued in the Super Duty. Just came from Ford's website; the V10 is still offered on F250 & F350 SD pickups, and F350, F450, & F550 SD chassis. Ford Trucks Ford Commercial Trucks

RE: ford 450

...I own a GM but can admit the previous diesels they put out sucked!!! That's the truth. The 6.2, well, enough said, and the 6.5 wasn't much better. GM didn't have a good diesel for their LDTs until the 2nd gen D-max(?). It's a shame the feds made Ford get rid of the 7.3 Stroker.

RE: When Kodiak and Top Kick are gone

Upon second pass thru Hino specs, I'm still convinced they need more engine especially when compared to even Navistar's smallest MDT chassis option, the Durastar 4100. With up to 230HP and 620lbs-ft of torque the class 5 4100 blows Hino's most powerful offering away. What surprized me was that the Kodiak's D-Max, while having a higher HP rating than either the Hino or Navistar (300hp), only tops out at 520lbs-ft, same torque as Hino's class 6 chassis. Add to this the strong rumor that Gulfstream will be offering the MaxxForce 9 engine, with 300-330 hp @ 2,200 rpm and 860-950 lb.-ft. @ 1,200 rpm in their super C's in the not too distant future, and clearly Hino needs to step it up a whole lot. Just one potential buyer's humble opinion....

RE: mignt not be enough truck for this trailer

Shoot everyone can tell, you would never have to use WD or sway on that rig. But I would amke sure it had a good brake controller. Ken I'd be inclined to change the trailer brakes over to disc just to give ya that extra stopping power. Can't be too careful...

RE: When Kodiak and Top Kick are gone

I'm starting to see a lot of Hino chassis under large panel and garbage trucks around here. Someone may start using them in the RV world. I mentioned this in another thread on this forum. Thought I'd put it here too as it pertains. Hino Trucks would need some different engine options. Their class 4 (models 145 & 165) and class 5 (model 185) only use a 175 HP, 376 lb-ft, 4.7L 4 cylinder; their class 6 (models 238, 258, & 268) use a 220 HP, 520 lb-ft, 7.7L 6 cylinder, and their class 7 (model 338) uses the same engine as the class 6, but increases the numbers only to 260 HP with 585 lb-ft. Not really the numbers I'd want especially on a Super C. I might be wrong, but I'm thinking many folks get the Super C's for the increased towing they offer vs conventional C's. A Hino-based RV with the above numbers would be a dog getting just itself over some of the mountains out west, let alone do it pulling an extra 5k to 7k pounds.

RE: Changes for 2010 SuperDutys

I've said it before, and I'll probably continue to say it until LDT manufacturers actually listen (don't worry, I'm not holding my breath). If you are really serious about maximizing MPG for both empty and loaded, offer a two-speed rear end of say 3.08/4.30. I'd stand in line for a LDT with one of those...

RE: Have they invented a transporter beam yet?...:) kinda long

Dbear, It wasn't a toyhauler, just a standard motor home. I didn't like the overall length of the MH and boat trailer. I couldn't see the boat back there when driving down the road! Then, I thought about launching the boat. For a moment, I thought about using a quad to launch the boat. Then I thought about that - I was just trying to "force" or "make" it work - not good. Having the boat adds mucho more to the camping adventure! Gotcha! I didn't think about the boat initially. It wouldn't be much fun "breaking down" your camp every time you wanted to launch and/or retrieve it. Probably a good thing you didn't attempt launching the boat with the quad; I can picture you having to fish it out after being dragged down the ramp into the water. Maybe not, but then again...

RE: Have they invented a transporter beam yet?...:) kinda long

You didn't mention, but I'm guessing that 34' Class C was one of the smaller Fun Movers. After checking out the numbers on their "van chassis based" units a couple years ago, I wouldn't feel comfortable towing anything other than four-wheels down, especially with toys loaded in the garage. Sounds like you need to step up to a C+ toy hauler like the FM 42D, or possibly a DynaQuest DQ399XL. Much more capable, and almost infinitely more stable towers. (Not to mention incrementally more expensive, but we won't go there.;))

RE: class c+ w/ Cummins engine

Almost any custom motorcoach builder will use any truck chassis you want, spec'd with whatever engine you choose. However, you are still limited to what engine the truck manufacturer decided to put in - i.e. you're probably not going to be able to get a Mack engine in a Peterbilt. I've personally spoken with the folks at Cobra Motorhomes. They give you the option of finding your own truck, or they'll find it for you. Also, I know of no truck that comes with a Kubota engine.

RE: Demise Of Kodiak/Navistar/EGR vs SCR!!!

Now that I think of it, somewhere in my travels on the internet, I came across a manufacturer, who I believe previously had used the Kodiak, now had a pic of a new Super C on a Dodge 5500 chassis with the 6.7 cummins. Don't recall which one 'tho...

RE: Demise Of Kodiak/Navistar/EGR vs SCR!!!

According to this RV News report Toyota offshoot could fill gap for RV manufactures. There may be other manufactures that will be in competition with Navistar. RE: 14' garage and 5000 CCC?

Keep in mind that the CCC is NOT measured in the garage area only. Instead, it is spread over the entire trailer. When I researched toy haulers, most of the RV-based rigs had garage CC of about 2500# or less, despite the total trailer's CCC. I think it has to do with axle placement and hitch weight. The only units I found that would be capable of that would be the cargo-trailer based ones, like Work-and-Play. Many cargo trailer manufacturers offer a living quarters option(s) for their big 5er or gooseneck "car haulers".

RE: mythbuster

...Just promise not to laugh at my Neon. It is a Dodge, after all. Hey, nothing wrong with a Neon. I got 175k miles out of a '95 Neon. Of course, when I finally decided to retire her in '05, she had that automatic oil change option (had to add a quart every 2 weeks), the AC had quit, and she developed a fuel leak if filled over 3/4 full. But the body was still in good shape (only a couple of surface rust spots and one dent), and damn if she still didn't get you where you needed to be, when you needed to be there. I gave it to my son's friend to use to get to work. Don't know if it's still the energizer bunny or not...

RE: Ford V10 owners

I've got an older ('01 F350 SRW 4x4, AT w/3.73's) two valve version. I haul a 2000# TC and pull a 7000# enclosed trailer. I tend to at least go the speed limit, even on the thruway, if not 5 over. I get about 9-10 fully loaded and towing, don't matter if it's highway or around town. Unloaded, I get 12-13 average, and have gotten 16 on one extended (300 mile) highway trip. I can't imagine what it would be like to have the extra ponies the newer V10's give you as I don't recall ever thinking I was short on power. It would be nice to have another gear 'tho. If I had it to do over, I'd have gotten the 4.10's (not much if any difference to mpg) and DRW (didn't foresee getting the TC).
