RE: Conway to Harrison, AR

You'll be in good shape. Four lane much of the way. A couple of steep hills, but no problems.

RE: Oklahoma City or Little Rock in October?

The Little Rock area is a really nice area. If you draw a line from the northeast corner of Arkansas to the southwest corner... along I-30 and highway 67-167... it's flatland to the east and the Ouachita and Ozark Mountains to the west. Little Rock is a small urban area. The Maumelle Park COE CG is quite nice. Petit Jean State Park about 45 miles northwest is also excellent. Hot Springs has excellent state and federal as well as private camp areas. When you're in Little Rock, you're about 3 hours from Branson, MO and Eureka Springs, AR and an hour from Hot Springs. North Little Rock (separate town north side of the Arkansas River) has excellent downtown dining as well as the Verizon Center Arena. Little Rock has a revitalized downtown - River Market - the Robinson Center as well as The Arkansas Repertory Theater. Ecletic dining in "The Heights." Little Rock is also a medical center with three major research hospitals... University of Arkansas Medical Center; St. Vincent's and Baptist Hospital. As you travel from South Dakota to Florida, Little Rock is a nice place to anchor and venture out from. October is a fine time of the year and the colors change in the mountains the latter part of the month. Wherever you land... travel well and safely. Dave and Missy

RE: How Much Wind Is Too Much?

Billy, You should be OK. Last Fall we were in a similar situation 20-25 with gusts to 30-35 right on the starboard side. You WILL drive that baby all day and appreciate every stop. And if it gets a bit over the top... pull over for a bit and take a nap. That's why we drive those things. Dave

RE: Newbie driver

We just began by taking short drives through the countryside and building our confidence as we went. Practiced turning and backing in a bank parking lot when it was closed. Practiced driving on two lane roads... had dots on the inside of the windshield to indicate the right shoulder and center line. Soon found confidence to watch the road and not the dots. We were told that once we had a motorhome, we'd never look at a gas station the same way again... and we don't. Even driving a car, when I pull in, I imagine pulling in in the RV and how I would get out again. Congratulations on your unit. Have fun with it. The videos are helpful, but practice that gives you experience is where your confidence will come from. The LAZDays videos were very helpful and start with adjusting mirrors.

RE: campground near Tallahassee Fl

Eastbank Corps of Engineers Park is about 40 miles west of Tallahassee and about 6 or 7 miles north of I-10. You get to it through the small town of Chattahoochee, Florida. We found it to be an excellent COE CG beside a beautiful lake.

RE: Buying used

Last May we bought a 2000 Winnie Chieftain 35U with 60,000 miles and are totally delighted with it. We took it to a truck shop and spend about four thousand making sure everything worked as it should, replacing brakes shoes, getting new tires, taking care of the engine... then took off for about 3500 miles with no problems. This is a good unit in our opinion.

RE: Interstate 40 in March

We travel I-40 - Little Rock through Tennessee regularly. March can be tricky... or completely benign. Generally it's good. Just keep a close eye on the forecast and conditions. It's the beginning of tornado season and at the same time freak cold snaps can put snow around Nashville/Knoxville. I wouldn't worry, just be aware and stay in touch with whatever system you use to monitor weather. Enjoy the trip.

RE: Escapees .... AND PA, Good Sam, TT or any others?

We have passport american and good sams. When traveling we look for the pa 1/2 price parks first - if none in area then look at good sam parks for 10% discount. If you won't move around much then neither would be beneficial to you. While some folks just tool down the road and stop wherever the spirit stops them... we do the same as Doxiemom. We also add rvparkreviews.com to check out the various CGs that come up. We also look to Corps of Engineers CGs as well.

RE: Pictured Rock Nat'l Park, Michigan - Insects

You'll be fine. It's late Spring and early Summer where you can really suffer. May and early June.

RE: Water under slide out topper

Drop the front or rear levelers which should allow the water to run off of the top of the slide, BEFORE you retract it. x2

RE: Seeing Red - Need to vent

Thanks folks. I did sit in a lawn chair and I did enjoy the free entertainment. I am usually cool about situations like this but (I'll admit it) there was something about this that got to me albeit briefly. On the other hand, when the 44' fiver-toy hauler came in on Tuesday, nearly everybody in the campground moved their trucks and did their best to get them parked. After three hours of trying, the MH in the pull-through spot moved his rig so they could have their site. The couple in the fiver had four developmentally disabled adults with them and really needed to be near the restrooms. The foster Dad came around to thank everyone and I heard someone say, "No problem, we are a community". Yes we are! lizzie And it wasn't such a bad week after all. That's a great ending. Thanks for sharing. And you know, I thought I knew just about every town and community in North Carolina. Unaka is brand new.

RE: Streaming Videos from laptop to TV while travelling

We call up Netflix on a droid smartphone. Connect the phone to the flat screen TV with an HDMI connector with a mini plug (Walmart) that fits the phone's HDMI port. Then we plug the phone into its charger. DW picks all kinds of movies to sleep through. Been pretty simple.

RE: SAFARI EXPERT HELP

Agree with vbigdog. We had the same problem and it was a simple GFCI reset. Just had to find it first. If that doesn't work, before you start chasing wires, check your circuit breaker and fuses.

RE: 1999 Southwind water heater issues

Do you the brand of heater? That is a big help. You can go to the website and get their trouble shooting guides. Have you ever cleaned the burner or jets? Little spiders like to build nests in the propane jets and get them almost closed. Don't use wire to clean it out. And as you clean look also at the igniter. Carbon can build up at the point where the spark originates and where it goes to ground.

RE: Well done Camp World in North Little Rock, Ar

I had a similar and excellent buying experience at CW in North Little Rock. We've been pleased with the purchase, the service and the people.

Rats. I thought the recipe said... microwave the sweet potatoes. Drink the bourbon.

RE: Prevost

I ask my wife for a new Prevost for Christmas. Very short and direct. She answered with one word. NO! Good strategy! Start real high and then come down. She'll think she won. :B x2

Auto switch from Heat Pump to propane furnace not switching

We have a 2000 Winnie Chieftain 35-U. It has a Suburban SF-42 propane furnace and an RVP 6535 series Heat Pump with a 6535-3451 Thermostat. I've noticed several folks mentioning that when it got chilly, their heat pump auto switched to the propane furnace. Indeed the instructions for the thermostat say if the heat pump cannot maintain above 45 degrees, furnace will engage. We were out several weeks ago, plugged into 30 amp shore power, when the heat pump couldn't maintain above 45 degrees, but the furnace didn't automatically switch on. When I got cold enough I got up and turned it on and it came on as it should. Any thoughts as to why the auto switch didn't occur?

RE: Virginia

Suggest you might check accuweather.com. It has forecasts about 20 days out. They aren't very accurate... but it'll give you an idea of average temps.

RE: Petit Jean State Park near Morrilton, AR

Fine pictures... gorgeous campground. We live just 15 minutes down the road and enjoy Petit Jean a lot.
