RE: Jayco Jay Swift 185RB

My inlaws have a smaller Swift. It has been a great unit for them and they have had no issues with it. Jayco has been known in the past to have a good quality product.

RE: I think I am ready to go camping!

I live not too far from Flyfisherman and I got about 10" here. I am SOOOOOOOOOOO tired of winter(yeah I know it is now spring). The snow in my yard was just about all gone and then we got this last round. Oh well, that is life in the great northeast. I keep telling myself that not too long from now I will be sitting by the fire with a cold one.

RE: Newbie

Congrats on the new camper. I too hate the idea of any more snow but hang in there camping season is getting closer day by day. I do not track the stuff I do but it is a good idea. Hang in there it won't be long and this white stuff will be a memory replaced by a crackling fire, family, friends and a cold beverage.

RE: Newbie here & just got a new TT

A good idea is to stay the first time at "Camp Driveway". Bring it home and stay a night or two in the driveway. That way you don't have far to go to get the stuff you forgot or never thought you needed. If things don't work or things go wrong you can just go inside and get a good nights sleep and figure it out in the morning. Congrats on the new camper and hoping you have many years of memories.

RE: Finally pulled trigger

The most important job of the 12v battery is to power the break away switch, which applies the brakes if the trailer comes unhooked while towing. Good luck with the new trailer.

RE: De-winterizing and Sanitizing logistics for newbies.

I do not belong to a HOA so I can not say for sure but I have read most will let you have the camper on your property for 24 hours or so to load/unload and do maintanance to them. Maybe someone who knows will chime in. It would not hurt to ask your HOA what the rules are for such issues. Good luck with your search/purchase and the issue with HOA.

RE: Just upgraded from a 1979 to a 1995 prowler! Yippee!

Congrats on the new camper. We had a 1995 24M Prowler and spent many happy trips with it. The Prowler is a quality unit with a lot of little upgrades from a base unit, gives it a homey feel. As far as the charging, you should be able to just plug it in and it will charge both batteries. Good luck and make many memories in it.

RE: Heater/Clearance light issues

I would say that the clearance light problem is in the connection of the feed wire to the lights. You will need to find where the wire that feeds the first light in the series comes from,it is probably a loose connection. They are usually scotch lock connectors. If there is no obvious broken/looses wire take each scotch lock apart and re hook them. The funace issue sounds like a short. You will need to trace the power wires for loose/broken wire/connection. It is never a good idea to put in a larger fuse as they are rated for the circut they protect. If it is blowing a breaker or fuse there is a reason for it. A circut and continuity tester will be need. Best of luck as electrical issues can be frustrating to solve.

RE: Bitter Sweet day

Yes,everytime we have upgraded it has been bittersweet. It is great to see the excitement in the faces of those who have bought our previously loved campers as they take it home with them. Our family still fondly remembers the memories made in each of our prior campers and even our tent we started out in. Crickeydog hit the empty nest thing right on the head. Our kids live very close to us so we see/talk to them just about daily, but it is nice to have the house to ourselves. When we go camping there is always room for anyone who wants to stay.

RE: Corn Dog Muffins

The wife made some chili the other day and made some corn dog bread to go along with it. She made it in a 8x8 glass pan and sliced the dogs into 1" pieces and pressed into the batter. We put a slice of corn bread in the bottom of a bowl and spooned the chili over it.YUMMMY. This is going to make it on the spring camping trip menu for sure.

RE: Help- backup camera problems

Most intremittant problems are loose connections or grounding issues.Check all the connections to ensure they are tight and the ground is good. Make sure there are no bare or corroded spots on the wireing. Best of luck, electrical issues can drive you nuts.

RE: Which WDH and anti sway to choose?

Yeah, unhooking the friction sway control add on is what I was referring to when I said you had to unhook it.

RE: Which WDH and anti sway to choose?

I have had an Equalizer and a Reese spring bar type. I like the Equalizer much better. It is easier and quicker to hook and unhook. It also has the sway control built in so there is no need for a seperate sway equipment. One more advantage is that you do not have to unhook it to back into a site or make sharp turns.

RE: Cast Iron Restoration Project

Congrats on the procurement. Google "dutch oven society" there is a wealth of information available there. The proper way to season it is to clean it well, coat it oil and then heat it to set the oil into the pores of the iron. What you are trying to do is smooth out the surface by filling in the divits with the baked in oil. This will take years of use to get it smooth. The base coat will form a nonstick coating that will improve with use. Even new "preseasoned" Lodge ware has a rough surface. I have not personally seasoned a piece of cast iron but this is what I have read. They say it is best to heat it in a grill rather than your oven as it will smoke. You will probably have to season it more than once. I hope this helps and best of luck with your project.

RE: Press Perc or Drip

We camp in state campgrounds where there is no power. When we want coffee we use a Coleman drip coffee maker that goes on a stove top. It works very good and the coffee is consistantly good. It does take a few more minutes to brew a pot than the one at home does but not as long as a perculator. It is also used at home if the power is out.

RE: Generators

Use the search option, you will find hours and hours of reading. There are lots of pros and cons about the Champion generator. I have one and use it sparingly while camping at state campgrounds in the spring and fall when the furnace is needed. It is not as quiet sa a Honda or Yamaha but better than a contractor generator. I could not justify spending the money for a more expensive one for the amount of time I use it. It is not any louder than most motor home onboard generators. Champion does make a "cube" generator that is 2000 watts and is quieter than the 35000\4000 open frame generator. I hope this helps.

RE: awning

Yes there are videos on you tube of awning replacements. There is one in preticular that show an older gentleman replacing one by himself. I am not sure of the title, just use the search,I am sure you can find what you are looking for.

RE: Equalizer hitch bars real tight

As eHoefler said it sound like you are not raising it up before you are trying to place the bars on the L brackets. To attatch the hitch this is what you do 1) Raise the jack and hook ball 2) Continue to raise the jack until the arms swing onto the L brackets easily 3) Place the arm locks over the arms and put the pins in 4) Lower the jack and the weight will be taken up on the bars 5) Continue to lower jack until it is all the way up I hope this helps.
