RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Rusty showed up today. Once I get him I don't know what to do, no one wants him. Even tried to convince our daughter back in SLC, but she says no. Maybe I'll send his pic to my grand children.
I love the "pics to my grand children" trick :W
I am glad you saw Rusty today and he trusted you enough to come to your door. I think you know what you will do with him. Better run out and get another dog bed :D

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Folks, we pulled into our usual RV park here in Yuma and there is a stray that no one has been able to catch for about 3 weeks. The local "kill" facility can't even get near him. I feel he's better off free then in the Humane Sociaty here in Yuma. They don't keep them long. The dog is real friendly towards other dogs and was nose to nose with my Rocky yesterday, but as I moved forward a little he took off. BTW, my Rocky was on a 6' leash. I would love to catch this guy, but then I don't know what I would do with him. I'm hoping that someone here in the park would adopt him if we could catch him. Everyone is leaving food and water out, he ate what I left him last night and almost emptied the water bowl. Pretty smart dog, he couldn't have picked a better RV park to show up in then this one. It is the most pet friendly place I have ever encountered on the road. There is no breed restrictions nor is there a quantity limit. The rules only require that your pet be kept under control and not a bother to others.
Richard we could sure use you and your wisdom to help this dog find a suitable human companion. I will try to get a picture of him and send it to you to post. He appears to be a young dog, no idea what breed he is.
Best of luck catching your new family member :W

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Thank you for your words of comfort. It's funny how things go full circle. When I wrote about the time I first picked Dash from his litter, I commented how he gave me kisses when I held him. I hugged him while he lay on the mat with the catheter in his leg waiting for the final injection, and he turned his head and gave me a kiss. It was both a final "Thank you" as well as a comforting, "Don't worry, I will be fine, and I will always be with you".
I am so sorry for your loss. This post brought tears to my eyes, first sad, then happy. You gave Dash a great life and showered love to him, he gave you a goodbye based on his love for you.

RE: Washington DC / Northern VA Weekend

Another great state campground that is close to DC is Smallwood State Park in Marbury/Rison, MD.
Closest "town" is Indian Head, MD. Smallwood is about 20 miles from DC. It only has water and 30a, but it does have bath/shower houses and dump station. There are several sites large enough to accomodate long rigs - our TH is 43' long, and we are able to fit it, a Dodge mega-cab dually AND a Kia Spectra on the site. The campground is immaculate, and quiet, and is also located right on the Potomac with boat ramps and shore fishing. There is a small museum at General Smallwood's house, and an interpretive nature center that just opened this fall.
Water and electric??? I must have missed this one :S Do you have any pictures??
