RE: Trying to blow myself up

Is the camper plugged in? If so it may be throwing a charge to the bettery connections. Or you could have an internal short in the battery. Or you may have melted some insulation when you reverse connected it and created a short in your trailer wiring.

RE: Changing brake fluid

Makes sense bleed fitting is on the top cause air rises and the purpose of them is to bleed out entrapped air. I'd do it myself and save the bucks. I assume you know procedures for bleeding brakes...............

RE: Identifying 5th Wheel and Specs.

You might need to get a tank wand, a flexible hose with jets on the end for breaking loose deposits in the black tank. They are not expensive and invaluable when needed. Email or call KZ about manuals. But most of the stuff in your trailer is off the shelf stuff and you can get information on all or most of it from the individual manufacturers or most any RV place can help you.

RE: Hyrdo. Fifth Wheel Hook Up

Never heard of this for a pickup. Seems the hitch when retracted would interfere with the driveline and/or rear end. Not enough room under the bed.

RE: Full body paint...same as car paint or special RV paint?

RE: In bed electrical plug location

You want to be able to reach it without climbing into the bed. Mine is near the tailgate. Wheel well area could tend to have a problem being hit by the tire.

RE: water quality at rv parks?

A lot of the water in the SW and especially Mexico is either very saline or very hard or both. I carry a small water softener we got at CW, and we rarely drink supply water. Generally rely on bottled water or carboys for consumption. I will brush my teeth and sometimes cook with the local water but I try not to consume it. I also use a sacrificial anode rod in my water heater. Some say they are unnecessary. When after 3 months in Kino Bay and AZ I checked our anode and all that remained was a stick I decided it was a good idea to have one.

RE: Anybody made their own set of stabilizer arms?

Thanks dhamblet. Yeah I kinda thought about all the work and materials for building them verses buying them. So I see by your signature that you have the JT's. How do you like them? Have you ever had a different brand? Would you recommend the JT's. Thanks I don't think they are as good as JT claims but they do make a difference. They are well made, they don't rust, the tubes fit together nicely, the threaded locks don't work their way out and get lost on the road. And they got my wife to quit complaining about the trailer shaking when I get up at night to "go". For the $300 I paid for them (used) I am happy. Never had any other stabilizers so can't compare but I have heard some of the clones are made of pretty thin conduit like material. Something that also will help are those wheel locks you put between your tires on a multi axle rig. You can easily and cheaply make yourself a set of them from wood and allthread. I also just realized you were talking about a travel trailer. In that case I don't think the front stabilizers are used like are connected to the front landing gear on my fifth wheel.

RE: Anybody made their own set of stabilizer arms?

Hummmm....... Up until this reply, I didn't see the mention of "pair". :h I stand corrected.

RE: Anybody made their own set of stabilizer arms?

First off they are not a pair. There are 6 arms with JT Stabilizers, two for front side to side, two for front fore and aft, and two for rear side to side. I'm pretty handy too but when I looked into it the price I paid for a set off Ebay was very reasonable considering the heavy duty quality nature of their rods and hardware compared to the amount of work it would have taken me to replicate them.

RE: Onboard Air Compressor used to Inflate Stuff

Thats because the compressor has low CFM it doesn't have a tank. It pumps the airbags up with air directly from the compressor because airbags don't hold a lot of air anyway. If you want it to work better put in a small storage tank. The compressor for my Pacbrake has a small tank and works ok for small jobs.

RE: Need a solution

They break easily when cold and are easy to replace. Buy several and keep 1 or 2 on hand and be careful when you use them.

RE: Hydraulic brakes vs. electric brakes

Same story, same answer. 38.5' Victory Lane and it stops. $1200 in parts. Best upgrade I have done.

RE: Full Time Toy Hauler????

It depends on what you consider adequate living space. Most TH's will not have adequate room AND haul any amount of toys. In order to get room you need either length or slides and most THs top out around 40' but that leaves you with about 30' of living space. 2 slides are standard on many THs but some come with one additional slide but the problem is that makes them HEAVY. You will need a real truck to tow a load like that. The added weight of the 3rd slide also robs you of toy hauling capacity on most THs. Unless you choose a high end or custom built unit for which you will need a BIG truck to pull it, like a converted Kenworth. Just my .02 worth. Our TH is 39.5' long with 29' of living space and 2 slides, I haul mu Electraglide and my Quad in it with a DOdge 1T.

RE: Any ideas how to set a TC back upright

First I'd empty it out and retract the jacks. How much does it weigh empty? I'm guessing 1500# or so. In which case 6 strong guys ought to be able to tip it back onto its bottom.

RE: Bent awning roller

Had same problem last year when a truck side swiped us. No way to straighten a hollow tube. Needs replaced. Might contact your insurance co. Mine is 18' and going with a "cheap" awning cost around $1000 and I replaced it myself with a little help lifting it in place.

RE: foam mattress topper

I saw a 3" 5+density foam mattress topper in Costco for $180. Have any of you used the toppers from Costco, We bought one 2 years ago and took it back to Costco a month later. Hated it. It absorbs the cold and holds it like a big ice chest. After being on the road for a day in cold climate (no heat in fiver on the road), it was like sleeping on an iceberg. Plus it was always scootching down off the end of the bed at night like a big tongue. We tried it inside and outside our mattress pad with no luck. Nice thing about Costco if u don't like it take it back.

Color matched Duct tape? Sounds like it is in need of replacement.

RE: WiFi - Ethics

Well gentlemen (and women) this has been an interesting discussion, I just wish we were sitting around a warm campfire hashing it out over a beer or 2 and some junkfood. Suffice to say I have stated my opinions and don't intend to change them based on what I read. I'm sure those on the alternative end of the spectrum feel likewise. Anyway, happy camping and maybe we can some day share that campfire. For now, good night Chet, good night David.
