RE: 2004 F350 Brake Up-Grade

Before I went to the expense of upgrading my TV I would make sure the trailer brakes are optimized. I upgraded mine to Kodiak electric/hydraulic disk brakes and they work fantastic. I would think a newer F350 would have pretty good brakes.

RE: Carlisle Tires or Goodyear

If you can't go with a 16 inch LT tire, I would go with the Maxxis in a load range E.
So far I haven't been able to find a dealer in Central Indiana that carries Maxxis, googled but nothing within 100 mile of Indy.
Well if your heading thru Knoxville I have a suggestion for u. Goforth Tire on Kingston Pike.
ALternatively most any tire store can order them for you or you can order them for yourself and have them installed. Check their web site. Prices there are double what I paid last January in Knoxville.

RE: Rough terrain towing--wondering if there are problems?

I have known people who towed behind their motorhomes on the rough road into the WHR Kino Bay resort ending up with extensive front end damages including headlights and gilles broken out. Might be a good idea to have a shield.

RE: WiFi - Ethics

The cable runs under my yard so I can get free TV. The water pipes run under my yard so I can use my universal wrench, from Lowes, to turn it on. Logic can take us many places. Some do not know about security and some leave it open to trap your info. If someone else is paying for it, at least ask permission.
Don't you think that is a bit obtuse. If there are water lines or cable underground or overhead on your property they better either have an easement, a permit, or be yours. I am sure any easement expressly prohibits unauthorized usage. No one asked for an easement to transmit onto my property.

RE: WiFi - Ethics

Carrying this to the next level, what if I object to someone transmitting an electronic signal thru my personal space? I should be able to request them to cease and desist or it should be electronic trespass - but I can't. It cuts both ways and it could even be causing interference with my electronic devices. Since I can't stop anyone from transmitting thru my space they better take the initiative to encrypt that signal or I will use it - without any recriminations.

RE: WiFi - Ethics

If you broadcast your electronic signals thru my personal space without my permission I have no qualms about using them without your permission.

RE: Health insurance in Mexico

You pray nothing happens that you need to be hospitalized in Mexico or somehow make it back to the USA. Otherwise office visits and drugs in Mexico are surprisingly cheap. We bought into MASA. They will get u back to the USA if necessary.

RE: Safest way to separate ABS fittings?

You can always cut the union down to shorten it if u have to. You could also split the existing union and peel it off using a heat gun but thats a lot of work.

RE: Steep Hill Approach with the Equal-i-zer

If someone can tell me how to measure the angle I will do it.
Measure it with a tape. A 45 degree hill will rise 1 foot for every foot horizontal. Take a 5' long stick, hold it vertical and if a 5 foot long tape held horizontal reaches the road ahead of you its 45 degrees or more. I it is more than 5' horizontal it is less than 45 degrees

RE: The purpose of air bags?

Well at least in the case of Dodge trucks the only difference between the 2500 and the 3500 is the added overload leafs in the rear springs. Same brakes, rear ends, frame, etc. So you can turn a 3/4t Dodge into a 1t by adding overloads. I added airbags to my RAM 3500 to raise the rear end a bit so the headlights are more usable at night with the trailer on

RE: Vinyl Flooring

dhamblet Did you leave the carpet in the all of the trailer or just te slide?
I removed the carpet from the living area and the steps up to the bedroom/bathroom. Left the carpet in the bedroom and on the slide since it gets less traffic and is still in pretty good shape.

RE: Portable heaters for the TT

I just bought one of the Mr Heater Portable Buddies radiant propane heaters. We also use a small electric ceramic heater. Combined with the furnace these get it warmed up pretty well, then we can start turning some of them off.

RE: Vinyl Flooring

No. Mor/ryde suspension. No problems.
FWIW, In the first 2 years we owned our Victory Lane I snapped off 3 of the 4 'U' shaped spring hangers that are welded to the frame and I was on paved roads - nothing rough. I determined that the Lippert frame was weakly designed at these points. I believe Mor/ryde uses the original hangers. All 4 of the end hangers have now been replaced with heavier steel and end bracing to keep down the flex that was snapping them off at the bends. When one of these hangers breaks the tires are forced together and you ain't goin nowhere. Dutchmen/Lippert have reimbursed me for about $1000 of my costs and it was out of warranty.
What usually broke them was the torque put on them turning the trailer specially when backing. I had my Ultra Classic in there one time and my Can Am quad in there the other times so it wasn't over loaded.
This year we're heading out for Mexico with both the quad and the Harley and hoping for smooth sailing.

RE: Noisey Kwikee Steps

The steps on our fiver were making noise (which I was ignoring) but my wife was making more noise until I removed the steps and checked everything out, turns out they were coming loose from the frame. I replaced some fasteners and reinstalled. Now wife has quit making noise (at least about the noisy steps).

RE: Replacing the Rubber Roof on my Prowler (lots of pictures)

You're probably past this point but I would suggest simply overlaying the entire roof with new plywood before installing the rubber. The roof on our fiver was replaced when it was about 1 yr old and the shop that did it left the old roof intact (rubber and all) and overlaid it with plywood and a new membrane. Solid as a rock.
