RE: Venetian Blinds vs Day/Night Shades

We specifically ordered blinds on our 2001 Carri Lite. Since then we bought a 2009 Cameo with the day/night shades. Given a choice, I'd go with the blinds. They allow you to slant them just a little for privacy but allow air flow. I find the day portion of the day/night shades prevent a lot of air coming into the RV.

RE: Favorite Indiana State Park?

If you are not a resident of Indiana, expect to pay a daily user fee in addition to the campground fee. In addition to that, if you use diesel fuel be aware that you cannot pull where the trucks do as they are tax exempt. You must pull your entire rig out front and try to angle your unit in between the cars to fuel.
Because it seems Indiana doesn't want tourists, we boycott them.

RE: Christmas Cards for Veterans

Leaddog, thanks for checking Snopes.com on the cards. I was remiss in not checking it first. I was just excited to know I could do something. BigRigRving supplied info. to send even more than a card. Thanks for that info. too.

RE: Awenings for Slides

Lots of pros and cons on the awning slides. Our manufacturer did not recommend them. Moisture and mold accumulates underneath. They eventually sag which then requires a makeshift apparatus to put underneath to elevate them. As far as keeping your slide roof clean, the flange mounted around your slide should clean the debris off as the slide comes in. Just something to think about.

RE: digital tv box?

At a RV park in Michigan, we had good digital reception during the day but at night, no signal. We purchased a Winegard Wingman for $29.95. It is a digital antenna that just clips onto your current Winegard antenna. Solved the problem.

RE: RV park around Cincinnati, OH

We live in Cincinnati and would love to advise you but.....need more specifics. Do you need full hookup? Do you want to be on the West side, East side or North of Cincinnati?
The state parks mentioned do not have full hookup. Indian Springs mentioned above is on the west side. Their website says they have full hookups but when we went there 4 yrs. ago, we were told that the county refused them the permit to hook up. Don't know if they rectified that.

RE: Space heaters.

I'd recommend the Pelonis ceramic heater. We have two but usually only have to use one. We put it in the living area and since heat rises, the bedroom is soon toasty.

RE: New Orleans West KOA

We stayed at the KOA West a couple years ago. It was stuck in the middle of a suburb setting and was expensive for what you got. But.....it was convenient. We took the shuttle in once but their times didn't match ours. So we took the bus in and switched to the cable cars at the end of the line. It was very picturesque.
We had cable problems at the park also.

RE: Tighting exterior screws??

Guess what? We also have a 2009 Cameo by Carriage. And we have experienced the same problem. This is our 3rd Carriage and each one has had the same problem. Carriage is using aluminum screws and if tightened too much they shear off. In fact, pay particular attention to your roof at the front and back seams. We had the screws break that hold the metal strip that connects the fiberglas with the roofing fabric. Although Eternabond tape was over these screws, the loose metal strip pushed the tape up allowing water to get in. We were lucky and discovered it prior to a heavy rain. I had to countersink stainless screws close to the old ones and apply new Eternabond. You might want to go to www.carriageowners.com as this is a Carriage owners forum. Lots of info. there.

RE: Heading west in Jan----where to go

TX - Windy and not as warm as FL but stayed the winter. Recommend South Padre Island either the county park or what used to be Destination RV but is now the KOA. Then there is Mustang Island off of Corpus Christi. Pioneer RV is superb.
AZ/New Mexico - Spent a winter here also. So much to do/see, we had to force ourselves to take a day of rest to do laundry. Stayed at Pleasant Lake in NW Phoenix. Lots of sightseeing from there ie Sedona, Grand Canyon, etc. Then onto Cactus Country in Tuscon. Lots of things to see here ie, Bisbee, NM, (old mine) desert museum, too many to mention. NM offers Las Cruces, White Sands and Albuquerque (National RV Park in Rt. 66), Taos and Santa Fe.
Worth the trip.

RE: Looking for Full Hook up Near Cincinnati

We live in Cincinnati. If you are looking for full hookup (W,S & E) there aren't many to offer. How particular are you? The KOA mentioned above that is in KY (Waldron) leaves a lot to be desired. Winton Woods is a county park and very pricey. None of the state parks around here have full hookup. There is a state park in Brookville, IN that is very nice. There is a surcharge if you are out of state though. There is a private campground in Rising Sun called the Little Farm. It's located on the Ohio River. Both of these fix your criteria of distance and time.

RE: vertical blinds

I'd opt for day/night shades. I've seen some of the RVs going down the road that have the vertical blinds in the rear windows and they are swinging. I would imagine the constant movement will loosen them.

RE: electric heaters

I vote for the Pelonis heater also. The ceramic blades are heated and the fan blows the heat off of them. When I researched this, I found it uses less electricity.

RE: The price of electricity?? Alabama power?

We encountered a similar question in AZ. I found out the rate from the local electric company was much lower than what we were paying. It turned out the RV park was increasing the per kilowatt rate. And it was legal.
We are now in FL and it's not legal. So you will have to check it out yourself in Alabama.

RE: TRUCK STOP RIP-OFF

Talking about diesel, try getting it in Indiana. RVers cannot go to the truck stops as they only sell diesel to exempt trucks. It forces the RVers to attempt to get diesel out front with the cars - and no room. So we try to get thru Indiana without getting diesel!!!!

RE: Argggh......... road tar removal??

Try Solv-It. We sprayed it on the tar and watched it dissolve and roll down the RV. Finding Solv-It is the problem. Walmart carried it but lately I haven't been able to find it. Solv-it website says it's available at Ace Hardware. I used it for a number of item, even laundry.
