RE: Flooring under slideout?

I don't understand your question. Since we have a class A, (see the picture in my signature) I posted this question in the Class A Motorhome section. However, it really makes no difference as slideouts in a TT or 5'er may be the same as in a MoHo. My slide does NOT have rollers, just skids and does make a slight mark on the carpet. :( Have had ours replaced but ours isn't a MH and based on your post location, you are looking for MHer answers?

Flooring under slideout?

Our rig has the type of slide out which drops down at the end of its "out-travel" leaving an almost flat floor. How on earth does one replace the carpet or change to laminate flooring or ? under a slide out like this? Also, what keeps the slide out from scratching up the laminate if one uses that type of flooring? Happy Holidays to one and all.

Driver Swapping?

Just out of curiosity, did anyone ever change drivers while the coach was moving down the road? Or has anyone ever heard of someone doing this? I don't plan on doing this as DW does not drive the MoHo but was curious if anyone has done it. Not much going on Christmas day, I'm bored!!!

RE: Bigger LCD

I replaced both TVs in our 2001 Tradewinds LTC 37' rig. I Bought some oak and stained it to match the front woodwork and rebuilt the front TV cabinet to hold a 26" Sony LCD TV. I fastened a TV mounting bracket to the framing behind the TV and to the TV. You have to look really hard to tell that it was ever modified (the framing).

RE: Financing a new coach

We have a Home Equity line of credit at 3.5% interest. It is good for a couple hundred grand. If I was going to buy a new coach (I'm not) I would use that. Home equity loans are usually the cheapest but difficult to get unless you have a fairly expensive home already paid for.

RE: Anybody put a rear sway bar on a Frieghtliner XC Chassis?

I would fully expect that Freightliner would defend their suspension design and state that no sway bar would help. However, if Roadmaster makes a rear sway bar for the XC chassis, someone must be buying and installing them. It just seems like I spend a lot of time jiggling my steering wheel to keep the coach going straight down the road. Cross winds, trucks passing etc. all cause me to do even more steering wheel "sawing". That is why my original question was aimed at anyone with an XC chassis who, for whatever reason, had a rear sway bar, especially the big Roadmaster one, installed on their rig. Anybody?

RE: Allison Trans..Economy or Standard Mode?

I use the up and down arrows probably more than most as I am used to manually shifting a transmission anyhow. I like to anticipate hills, passing etc. needs and get the engine/transmission cranked up a little ahead of when I actually need it. Absolute fuel economy seems to be affected much more by keeping interstate cruising speed at 60 mph rather than worrying about the timing of the shifts. JMPO

RE: You know this is a very big ship when......................

Turns out, Royal Caribbean may have shot itself in the foot with the Oasis of the Seas. It is soooooooo huge, it cannot dock in most of the places one would normally go on a cruise ship. It is planned to sail out of Ft. Lauderdale, FL into the Caribbean but cannot dock at most of the places the ships usually go. They will stop at Labadee ("private island", aka Rip-Off Beach) and one other place. Most days at sea. When is big too big? I think we now know!

Anybody put a rear sway bar on a Frieghtliner XC Chassis?

Freightliner says NOT to put a rear sway bar on an XC chassis, but Roadmaster swears their rear sway bar does wonders for an XC ride. Anyone ever add a rear sway bar to a Freightliner XC chassis? If so, were the rersults worth it? Comments?

RE: National Rv owners R U Happy?

We are the second owners of our 2001 Tradewinds LTC 37 foot, model 7373. 82,000 miles on it. Previous owners (good friends) put 42,000 miles on it and we did the rest. I have done quite a few mods to it and certainly sitting out in the Florida sun all year in not good for it but so far, it has been great. Had one engine (Cat 3126), some sort of fuel injector thingy, otherwise she continues to putt along. It could use a better ride but I am working on that. Basically, a solidly built coach. We have toured the old National factory in Perris, CA and bought parts there. All was great then. Buy it, you will like it!

RE: Steering Stabilizer for Neway IFS?

OP, why do you think you need one? Good Question! I have always been disappointed with the handling of our rig and figure if we are going to keep it (rather than spend a bunch of $$$ on a newer one) I should finally get it upgraded to handle better. Actually, I think it needs a sway bar on the rear rather than a steering stabilizer. I am assuming the rear end swaying causes the front to track badly. The coach is quite sensitive to trucks passing etc. My question about the lack of steering stabilizers was more of curiosity than anything. What is so special about the Neway IFS that hardly any manufacturers are able to adapt their steering stabilizers to work on it?

RE: Your First Time Owning & Driving a Class A MH

The first time I ever drove our RV (or any RV for that matter) was when we bought it and drove it out of the lot. The lot was way back in the woods near York, PA on a series of narrow, crowned country roads. I made it, not without nerves but did not hit anything. Since then I have learned a lot of tricks including how and when to turn, how to back up etc. Lots of squeaks and noises, work on them little by little. Any, something always needs repair or upgrading, learn how to fix stuff. Good Luck!

RE: Steering Stabilizer for Neway IFS?

Do you think or does anybody know if what is shown that fits a 2002 Tradewinds will also fit a 2001? I don't remember when Freightliner changed the XC chassis.

Steering Stabilizer for Neway IFS?

I have searched the forums, and the web sites of most of the steering stabilizer manufacturers for RVs and have come to the conclusion that nobody makes any sort of steering stabilizer for Freightliner XC chassis with Neway IFS. Perhaps I am missing something so please help. And, if it is true that nobody makes a steering stabilizer for Neway IFS equipped chassis, maybe someone has detailed knowledge as to WHY NOT? TIA Richard

Bluewater Key Resort, (Again)

Just got back this afternoon from a Thanksgiving trip to Bluewater Key Resort. We live about 4 hours north of them so it is an easy drive. We spent a few days at Bluewater about 5 or 6 years ago and remember it as kind of a rustic mess. The new owners rebuilt the entire place and hired new managers 4 years ago as many of you know. We stayed in the cheapest site, $70.00 per night. But the place is wonderful, probably the nicest place we have ever been. Surrounded by water and close to Key West, all level sites, paved patios, gravel parking, Tiki huts, Palm trees etc. Beautiful. We also looked at one of the Oceanside lots (#51) which is for sale. You better rush down there and pick it up, the price is only $580,000. Enjoy!

RE: am i being too picky ?

Someone once said and RV equates to a house on a truck in a constant earthquake! So true. We buy these complicated things and expect them to be perfect. Not gonna happen. RVers who have a coach with almost NO problems are the exception, not the rule. I agree with a previous poster who said that you either have to be rich or a handyman to own an RV. There is ALWAYS something to fix or improve on these things. Talk to some the folks who have been RVing for many years and ask them how many hours they have spent fixin' and foolin' with their rig. Good luck, buy some tools and learn as you go!

RE: Water pump

Sounds familiar! I just replaced my water pump last month. Now that the new one is in, I realized the old one had not worked right for years! New pump cost $65.00, took about an hour to put it in. I replaced the old pump with exactly the same one, slightly updated with a new number. Fit perfectly, all connections were the same. I cleaned the little plastic inlet filter also, although it was not very dirty. Easy!

RE: replaceing tv

I replaced both of my CRT TVs, the bedroom one on a swing-out and tilt regular LCD mounting. The TV fit into the old cubby hole exactly. The pictures show how I modified the front cabinetry from a square frame to an oblong frame to accommodate the 16:9 format of the new LCD TV. Unless you look really closely at my wood splices, you cannot tell it was ever changed. Took some work, but well worth it. I mounted the TV using some metal supports which hold it into the wooden framework. RE: Can you use the leveling jacks for tire removal?

When I bought new tires for the rig, the tire guys asked me if I had jacks. I said yes, he said "Put 'em down". So I lifted the coach up with all 4 jacks and they changed all 6 tires, no sweat. Nobody got underneath the rig, it was on level ground and nothing happened. Would I get underneath a coach like that? NO, but you do not have to when changing a tire.

Replacing floor covering?

It looks like it is time to replace the carpet in our RV. It is getting pretty nasty, especially where the large living room slide goes over it when the slide is in. I have read about lots of different floor coverings and I like the looks of the wood planking but how does one solve the problem of the slide going over the floor covering? It would be a shame to spend a bunch of money on a nice new floor and have the slide scratch it all up. Your thoughts and recommendations, please.
