RE: Okay, what is the scoop on the stabilizer jacks

I leave my nose a little les than 1" high then level with the rear Stabilizers which are rated at 7,000 lbs each. This takes morewiggle out of the leaf springs and gives me a more stable set up.

RE: Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems

I have been using one for nine years on two different RV's and would not have one with out a TPMS.

RE: Air conditioner fan isn't comming on anymore

I love easy fixes!!!!! Their just almost never the fixes to my problems. I did have a looe ground once instead of a bad backup monitor ... thought I won the lottery.

RE: Air conditioner fan isn't comming on anymore

Richard, There is a starting capacitor for the motor that can go bad. Also the bearings can rust and the motor can not over come the resistance the rust causes. Try spinning the fan manually while it is humming (be careful obviously) does the fan start running? If so let it cycle a few times. If it works fine for the day then it was likely the bearing and you will likely need a new motor because it will rust again. If it will not start after it cycles off then it was likely the starting capacitor (these can be replaced too) If it is the motor I would consider a new AC at the age of yours a new motor may not be the best choice.

RE: TIRE failure

I had Carlisle's on my 5'er and honestly I would not pur them pack on for free. I put on Michelins because after all of my reading I simply felt they were the most safe and most reliable.

RE: James Island this weekend ... will we see you there?

Great! Now the people in #1 can take their time leaving on Sunday ;) You know, I have only ever moved to stay in a CG one time in 9 years and it was at James Island. It is worth it, I think you will enjoy your stay.

RE: James Island this weekend ... will we see you there?

They have one once a month in the summer. It is a family friendly venue and crowd. There is a yuengling bear wagon in the back, food vendors, etc. Admission is free for campground guest. Take a chair or blanket and sit on a lawn that is like a golf fairway. There is a link to the band for this weekend on the James Island park site…. They sound pretty good. We are in site #1. Where are you guys?

RE: 2007 Gulf Stream Canyon Trail M-30FBHS - opinions?

We went and actually saw this camper - what a mess! Lots of damage to the exterior so we ran away...quickly. Good for you way to high in price anyway. We love our Canyon Trail but only paid a little more than that and ordered it new. I saw a beautiful Sabre, 2010 three slide on line yesterday for $28k.

RE: Location of dump valve in our new 5er...!

I wish all these manufacturers would follow the design that Carriage did in their Domani units. Simply press a button from inside the coach to flush your tanks. Very convenient, but very pricey too:E One thing I like more about my 5'er over my Class-A is that the 5'er has LESS automation. Less to maintain, fail, etc. By the way I sell industrial automation for a living :)

RE: Local dealer will not do waranty work on RV he did not sell

I always love these threads. IMHO if a dealer has this policy then his organization is a group I wouldn't want to touch my RV!...... "here's your sign" Its great! It makes the bad ones easy to identify ..... just like they're wearing a sign ;)

RE: Help with Transmission Symptom (Updated)

CMan, Yes I am sure that is were the leak is from. I spoke to a tranny shop manager today who feels it likely was pushed out the front seal.

RE: Help with Transmission Symptom (Updated)

All the trucks I have driven, you have to be stopped to shift to 4 low, otherwise you could damage your transfer case. My Chevy won't let you shift unless you are stopped, keeps me from doing something dumb :) that is what I though .... maybe I will start to back it in then pull forward to the pint were I am mostly straight and the truck four wheels are back on the road (but perpendicular) and then put it in 4 low.

RE: Help with Transmission Symptom (Updated)

Help with Transmission Symptom Update…… I went out after diner and tried to recreate the problem. Of course I was unloaded, but I ran up a few very steep hill in reverse and then parked on an incline nose down. I could not see any transmission fluid dripping from that spot. In fact the heat caused it to dry up and it was definitely not leaking out of the cover at the front end of the bell housing like it did before. I had previously checked to see if it was coming from around the dipstick and that is not the case. Is the general consensus that I should use 4 low and keep and eye on it? It is rare now a days that I do not get it in on the first try. I know I worked it hard this time. Or should I have the seals checked and or replaced? PS I have not used 4 low in the past because it is my understanding that I have to come to a stop to put it in 4 low and I didn’t want to stop at that point of my yard on a hill and risk the slips when I started moving again. Is that correct that I need to STOP to go to 4 low?

Help with Transmission Symptom (Updated)

Can anyone reply on the following Symptom? I have to back the 5’er in my sig with the trick in my sig up a steep hill into my back yard. To help minimize the yard from getting tore up as I back into the yard I reach over and put the truck into 4 high. If I do it before I back up while the truck is still turning into the grass then it tends to slip in the grass. This time my angle was off and I had to go forward and take another run at the hill FOUR times. When I finally got into the back yard and in park there was smoke coming from under the hood. The truck is till pointing down hill at this location. It was brief and then it was done. When I got unhitched and back to the driveway I confirmed the following: -it was transmission fluid dripping on the exhaust manifold -it was very little -it was coming from what I would describe as a “Weep hole” at the front of the bell housing where the torque converter is. -at this location there is a thin “cover” over the front of the bell housing -above the bottom edge of this cover there was no sign of fluid -the transmission fluid is still rosy and does not smell burnt -the transmission fluid is not low Did I blow a seal and it leaked out the front? Or is this just the noticeable indication of a previous condition? I could see a condition were the fluid pooling in the bell housing and dripping forward when the down hill was steep enough.

RE: all of the tire talk has me concerned

Rob, your 235/80 R16's are 9.25" wide (assuming standard rim) and 30.8" tall. You should have no problem switching to a more common, 245/75 R16 which is 9.65" and 30.47".
