RE: Is this normal? Dealer service question.

I would rather take it to the engine and transmission shop myself. That way the service writer is getting first hand information on the problem rather than information filtered from the dealer. Also, it gives me a contact person a little closer to the action. And, I seriously doubt the dealership is going to have their best employees away from the dealership for an hour or two transporting rigs to various shops. I just have the vision of goofball the dealership can most do without being the guy driving my rig around town.
Excellent point!
x2. I have never taken my MH to the dealer for work. It went right to the expert Country Coach recommended while under warranty and now while under extended warranty. The car is different, right to the dealer.

RE: Hand Guns

Shotgun is my prefered home defence .
"home defence" does not stand up when in a RV, especially going from state to state.
Considering if someone breaks in while you are inside, thus not there by invitation, and you can not retreat as some states require (amazing to me), in that situation you are allowed by law to defend yourself. Sounds like home defense in an RV to me.

RE: RV Park for Zion and Bryce NP?

I stay at Ruby's for Arches and Zion RV Resort in Virgin for Zion. My dog loves both as do I. Ruby's has plenty of space if you stay in the "lower" or "back" sections, up front is too tight for me. Zion RV is a typical RV Resort.

RE: Excessive Vet costs?

My guy needed two major surguries and at the time taking him in I was hoping he made it and he would be back with me soon. As he came walking out happy to see me, and me even happier, I saw the bill and said holy *%$#. Thank goodness for pet insurance - it took the sting away.

RE: Hand Guns

Hi Dianne,
My goal is to point out that gun ownership comes with high risks. Since no one on RVnet claims to have whipped out a weapon for defense, why is taking that risk valid?
So it is off topic to talk about consequences of gun ownership? So be it.
They won't be able to travel to Canada with firearms--and Ontario alone has more campgrounds than the whole of the USA.
moderator note....the only posts I have had to delete are pianotuna's. The rest of you have been great with your advice and suggestions.
piano....if your goal is to get this topic closed...you will have to try harder....
DianneOK
I think a small percentage of RV'ers are on RV net. I have been concerned only twice in my life and no one know if or when the next time will be. I was raised on a farm in the mid west and we had rifles and shot guns but no hand guns. When I was 14 mom and dad left me and my sister home while they went to town (15 miles away) to go shopping. Someone came to our door and wanted to borrow, use the phone. I didn't know the person so I refused to let him in. He insisted until I picked up the shot gun that was in the living room and racked the slide, he turn and left. The other time and Im much older. We were camping in the desert alone and about 3AM someone drove to within a few feet of the camper door. Two of them got out and started walking around. I had no idea what they were up to and didn't ask. I reached for my Ruger SR40 sat up in bed and pointed it at the door. Had they forced open door I would have opened fire. They walked around for a little bit and then left. They didn't take anything. I didn't turn on a light or make any sounds. No one knows if or when then next time will be that I may need to defend myself, but I will be ready. I have no need, desire, or reason to ever go to Canada so not worried at Canadian laws
Good post. I had three situations in my 9 years of rv'ing during daylight hours, in very busy areas, where I stopped the MH for some rest. I did not have to draw, but it was pretty darn close and they knew it and they took off. I train at a training facility 5 times a year. Training not only in accuracy but in awareness.

RE: Inverter and house Batteries?

To address the Xantrex ve Magnum question I'm switching out my 2000 MSW Xantrex 480 Inverter for a 2000 Prosine Magnum. My inverter is fine but with my residential fridge I want the Prosine. The suggestion to switch brands was from a former Country Coach tech who's currently working on my coach and specializes in electrical systems including Silverleaf. His experience says the new Magnums are better than Xantrex. Also, with Magnum I can get service 30 minutes from my house, if needed.

RE: Grand Teton Park, Moran, WY

Planning to stay at Grand Teton Park, Moran, WY, any advice on this park (easy road access, park reality, etc...) Thanks
Stayed there a few years ago. Nothing fancy but I like it because it's out in the country. I'm not big on Colter Bay.

RE: surge protector

$400 as said is cheap insurance. I just installed the new 50 amp Surge Guard with remote LCD screen to monitor the power coming in from inside the coach. Instead of selling the original surge guard I'm keeping it just in case! I carry extra filters and belts, why not an extra surge guard?

RE: Stealth camping on private property

Usually the police won't bother someone like this unless a 3rd party complains.
Recently in Venice, CA. the police took action against a group of Urban Dwellers living in RVs, Cars and Vans on a street. The neighbors complained because of the sewage being dumped in the storm drains and on the roadway.
Hopefully she picked up whatever she dropped & disposed of it, otherwise it would pose a health problem not to mention the smell (as in porti-potti smell).
You got it! I own a second home in Venice and the RV's that park on our streets are not even road worthy. All the police do is have them move. City ordinance protects them because they do not own a fixed home. Venice and Santa Monica (city due north) are a refuge for the homeless and they are pretty abundant either sleeping in doorways of businesses, in their cars or RV's. It's a huge problem. Public urination and defecation is commonplace. We were told on our street to rent a Porta-Potty for their use!!!!!

RE: Norcold refer on '06 Bus not getting cold enough

If you go to a residential refrigerator, you will need six, six volt batteries for your house batteries and you will need at least a three thousand watt pure sine inverter/charger. If you do a lot of boon docking I do not recommend a residential refrigerator. But if you are connected to shore power most of the time, THEN I do recommend a residential frig. JMHO
Get the dealer to replace the frig. with another new Norcold. I have had mine for ten years and no problems yet.
I installed a residential last year, using the same 4 6v batteries and a modified sine wave inverter/charger and I boondock often.

RE: Rear Radiator vs Side on Diesel Pusher?

I have never seen a Beaver but do know that they are high end.
After kicking all this around with the wife, we decided to hold off further contact until the weekend passed and then let them know our decision. The salesman called me late yesterday and said to me "what I need you to do is to bring either cash or a cashier's check and pay for that motor home tomorrow". The kid tells me this two or three times "what he needs me to do". My guess is the store manager coached him in using stale customer service phrases. That truly is what pushed us over the edge in deciding NOT to buy the BUS.
If a salesman said that to me I would not hesitate to tell him to go pound sand because the deal will never happen - even if I wanted the unit. There are so many available good units out there for great prices. How about a 42ft, 3 slide, tag axle 2004 Newmar Mountain Aire for $90,000. Great price! Take your time and enjoy the process - but do go with a side radiator.

RE: Should I buy an expensive/complicated MH?

These are all poor excuses to talk yourself from up grading. Actually if you look at the modern gasoline engine, you are looking at a very complicated piece of machinery. A Diesel engine looks stripped down comparing to the modern gas engine.
As to the house part, there really is not much that can,t be fixed by a person with normal intelligence.
The only coach that I saw that had so many instrument gauges was a older Bluebird Wanderlodge. I felt like I was seating on pilot seat on an airplane.

RE: Single retired male, what size RV should I get?

I'm 6'5"/230lbs and I'm very comfortable living in and driving around my 40' diesel pusher with Jeep in tow. I have 3 slide outs with all the bells and whistles I added on myself after traveling and seeing what I needed to be real comfortable. Be careful with pre-2004 MH's because the interior height was only 6'7". Since 2004 the industry standard has been 7'0" interior height.
