RE: 5000 pound truck camper???

That 5,000 lb number may be a bit high. Maybe close with accessories, full tanks, and 500 lbs of stuff. The dry weight is 3650 per lance. The lance dealer told me they are recommending 1 1/2 ton DRW trucks for that one. BS...theres NO WAY

RE: Rear Anti Sway Bar for Chevy

I have a 2011 Chevy 2500HD SRW extended cab diesel truck with a 3700 lb. camper (when fully loaded) and the truck definitely does not need a rear anti-sway bar. The one in the front is as large as any aftermarket one you can buy. The 2011 has a fully boxes frame that is 400% stiffer than those from prior years or anything from Ford or Dodge/Ram. It does not need any help. The truck did benefit from replacing the stock Firestone LT245/75R17 tires that are 3195@80 PSI with 285/70R17 Nitto Terra Grappler tires rated at 3750@80 PSI. It feels like the sidewalls of the Nitto tires better handle the loading they get in a turn. If you have more than 30K miles on the truck I would look into replacing the shocks. I have never had GM shocks last longer than that on any of their trucks or SUV's that I have owned. I would make sure that the tires and shocks and springs and axle stops were working as well as possible before thinking about an anti-roll bar. I would also not put on air bags but if I did I would be sure that they were plumbed separately and not on a common line. I have the same truck with same # camper...I put Timbrens on..It handle it Excellent....NO problems...cornering in the rockies

RE: SRW diesel truck choices

You might want to reconsider the choice of a diesel engine. You will save quite a bit of weight going with a gasser, not to mention many thousands of dollars cheaper. You mentioned using the truck as a daily commuter. In that case, the diesel makes even less sense. I love my diesel and my camper is always on the truck, but the diesel is not good for short distance driving. The fuel economy seems to be really bad when the motor has not warmed up. It takes quite a 10 miles for the engine to get to operating temps. In addition diesels do not like stop and go and short distance travel. A few days of driving under those conditions can set off the emission control warning light and I will need to get out on the highway for 20-30 miles to blow out the system. Well said...

RE: Mega Cab with Lance 830

I have a 2006 5.9L diesel megacab 2500 with a 2008 830. I have had the combo for 4 years this May. Works great for our family of (4). 50 nights camping in 2012. Upgraded tires & wheels --- I run 19.5's in the summer towing a boat and Toyo MT's in the winter to the ski slopes. The truck is my daily driver and came with the factory Jacobs exhaust brake --- awesome braking power. Air bags, sway bar, Bilstein shocks, and a Edge monitor for the EGT's, tranny temp, boost, etc. Excellent combo in my opinion. Let me know if you have any questions. I haven't had any nose lifting issues, but I do have a 2" front leveling lift which would probably add to that problem if I was experiencing it. That maybe a load carrying issue between the heavy leaf springs on the dually Dok had vs. my air bags? Just a guess. I have the rear tent on mine...maybe that adds to the rear weight..??

RE: Mega Cab with Lance 830

Dont do it....the nose lifts...bed is to short...rear of camper not supported enough...I had a duelly Mega with Lance 830...had to put wood over the rear bumper to give more support..worked good
