RE: F53 Chassis - Service Bulletin
Found this infoThis article supersedes TSB 02-09-09 to update the Service Procedure and affected model years.
ISSUE:
Some 1999-2004 F-53 Stripped Chassis vehicles equipped with a 6.8L engine, may ingest water into the air filter while driving in the rain. This can cause loss of power and/or engine stumble.
ACTION:
Replace the air cleaner inlet tube with a revised tube and strap. Refer to the following Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Remove and discard existing shield. 2002-2004 model year vehicles are equipped with a long shield (Figure 1) and 1999-2001 model year vehicles are equipped with a short shield (Figure 2).

Remove and discard the existing air inlet tube. To remove, grasp the air inlet tube at the bottom of the air cleaner assembly and pull downward.
Remove and discard existing retention strap.
Install revised air inlet tube into the bottom of the air cleaner assembly and secure with revised strap (Figure 3).

Ford Has a fix for this
Suggest you do a search under water injestion on F53 -This has been covered many times here on forum
I highly recommend getting the parts as it happened to me coming over the confederation bridge -not the best place for it to happen
Sorry cant find the part nos for this fix but ford has them

As I am sure you are aware the exhaust powers the turbo that makes boost-
with the leak it is more than noise -power will be affected
I would have it repaired as required!

leaking intercooler /or hoses??
Do you have a boost guage or pyrometer??
These would be items to check also lift pump pressure

Are you sure the steering is unlocked on the Jeep? That can cause cupping and extreme wear quickly. Don't ask how I know!
Yes, positive the steering is unlocked.
It only takes 1 short trip with it locked
I can tell you how I know -but wont!!

Have you tried using it without the scan gauge plugged in??
Read a previous post where it was causing problems ??
