RE: Newer entry level DP bunkhouses?

For $140k I'll sell you my 35J and include a free Kelderman upgrade ;) Seriously though aside from the engine up front our coach rides really well. One handed steering even on the I5 in Seattle ;) here's a floor plan link: https://post.craigslist.org/imagepreview/m/3K13M33J85Ia5L25Hbd45eb97af5b16f01afd.jpg Also some other pics from our coach album if you're interested in what the insides look like:

RE: Are Class As selling anywhere?

Well I've put ours on Craiglist, kijji and RVTrader site. Both have lots of pictures and yes my price is high. I know that. I also know that I can negotiate down but never up. I figure our unit is fairly rare and in extremely good condition. We're also not desperate to sell. Yes we want to get out of RVing and do some international travel but not at what one dealer offered. Which was 20% below wholesale. The RVTrader has generated 3 leads including the dealer one. One of which I think was reasonably serious but ultimately they chose not to buy a bunk model for their own reasons. Most of my calls have been about 3rd parties helping me advertise for money up front. I'm not there yet. I figure it's still relatively early in the season, we're still using ours till it sells and will wait for that buyer who is willing to pay a competitively fair price for a nice coach. I don't need to sell tomorrow but I would if the right person came along.

RE: Increasing Battery Runtime

switch your bulbs to LED. not cheap but will drop your non furnace loads down 90%. We used to go a long weekend and need a genny. Now we go a long weekend and have 90% remaining. huge change. Furnaces will still kills things pretty quick but those bulbs are huge power sucks!

RE: Crystal Cove Beach Resort

We stayed there in our 35' A. Sites aren't huge but they are spotless and pretty. We used it more as a base camp to see the area. We'd stay there again.

RE: Telegraph Cove Campgrounds

the marina is nothing more than a parking lot but it is sure convenient to the actual ammenities. the other place is a bit of a hike and didn't look all that great either. Do take the Stubbs Whale watch and the Grizzly tour. Both well worth the $$. The coffee shop has some good food too.

RE: How do you calculate travel time?

We use an average speed of 75KM/h and that includes stops, fuel, lunch etc. We take the total mileage eg 750KM for the day and that means a 10 hour day. Not that we actually try to do 750/day I just like easy math :D

RE: To Alaska in Feb - a question for my Canadian friends...

In BC it's chains. And you need to have them. Not that you use them. IE I have chains but I'd never ever intend to use them. btw I bought the cheapest I could find so I could show a LEO and be allowed to continue. Only once have I been questioned and I showed him the unopened box. He let me continue. This was in my old F350 not in the MH. Same rules though.

RE: Class A w/Overhead Bunk

I'd sure be looking at a used Winnie/Itasca 35J. Very livable for a family of 4.

clicky that is one tight place! I have to think he calmly asked his passengers to keep quiet while he navigated. I sure would have.

RE: Vancouver area tolls - conf of how a MH and TOAD are classed

yes but the 8 meter length also come into play. Any RV over 8 meters (26') is considered a large truck and is $9. Somehow I had read it would be $6 because I wasn't commercial. Oh well.

Vancouver area tolls - conf of how a MH and TOAD are classed

On another thread I said I'd asked how a MH + TOAD with decals on both would be charged. Here is the verbatim response from Treo the folks running the toll system: _________________ Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for contacting TReO, the easy, electronic and efficient tolling system on the new Port Mann Bridge. When you`re towing a vehicle behind a motorhome you`ll be charged a toll rate of $9.00 which is an equivalent toll rate for a large truck. You will not be charged a seperate toll rate for the vehicle. Visit us at Treo.ca to learn more about tolling with TReO. Sincerely, TReO Customer Service ___________________ And here I thought I"d be paying $6 per crossing and the Jeep would be free. Guess not :(

RE: New owner. Question about GVWR, actual weight & towing

to the OP I guess RTFM is in order ;) Read? ;) The manual says Max GCWR is 26000 lbs. Trailer Weight Range is 0-10000 lbs. With this info it seems to me that the hitch rating is what I need to be concerned about. Yes also the section specifically around if you are allowed/disallowed weight distribution hitches. As far as I know each manufacturer (Itasca in my case) is responsible for the frame extensions and have to meet a Ford standard. Therefore they, not Ford, are the ones who set the WD/Sway hitch stuff. btw glad you're asking up front. Smart to ask a lot questions!

RE: New owner. Question about GVWR, actual weight & towing

Once your trailer is loaded I feel certain that you will exceed 5000lbs and be beyond the weight ratings for that chassis. Though the hitch (I have the same one) is rated to TOW 5000lbs. the actual hitch weight (actual weight being carried on the ball) needs to be checked as mentioned be another poster. If you are anywhere near 500 lbs. of hitch weight you need a weight distributing hitch to transfer some of that weight to the motorhome's front axle. IIRC that my coach vendor (Itasca) doesn't want a weight distribution hitch used. The manual is in the MH so I can't double check - that means I am limited to the 500# hitch weight or 5000 whichever comes first. to the OP I guess RTFM is in order ;)

RE: New owner. Question about GVWR, actual weight & towing

Also per Ford the F53 requires trailer braking per their manual. Not I would hope anyone would try different but since your asking limits this would be a big one.

RE: British Columbia tolls

Just a warning for anyone renting a motorhome in Canada and using these toll bridges. The bill for the toll will be sent to the rental company and they will usually add a "handling fee" making your bridge use pretty expensive. Very true but no different then when we were in Australia last year and paid a toll for highway use in Sydney. Rental car company added it to our charge. As for the Port Mann/Golden Ears tolls, well you pay. for those of us locals I've asked how I don't pay for my Jeep when I TOAD it behind the MH. Both MH and Jeep have the decals. I"ll post the answer I get back when it does come.

RE: Winnebago/Itasca or Tiffin Allegro?

I would get the Winne, but remember that the Vista is a full step below the Tiffin Allegro you're looking at- to be comperable you should compare the Adventurer or perhaps the Sightseer lines at Winnebago opposed to the Open Road by Tiffin. That is an excellent point that I have been pondering over in my own search. After months of consideration looking at many models, the Vista 35B is the best floorplan made today for my needs.....but I REALLY wish they would make the Adventurer with the 35B. In the end, though, I believe we will go with the floorplan we like and give up a few of the extras that come with the higher-end lines. Floorplan idiosyncrasies are what will drive you nuts. IE I really dislike our barrel chair IMHO it's a great storage place and a lousy chair. but overall our plan works for our family. If there is something in one plan that drives you nuts now, think *really* hard. That will get worse over time. We cut the Newmar Baystar because we felt it was really dark inside, minor stuff indeed but we knew we would grow to not like it as time went by,

RE: Winnebago/Itasca or Tiffin Allegro?

If you can find a 2012 Sightseer 35-J, it is a bunk model- just fyi. You're right though- no 2013 bunk models in the gasoline class A dept. Not sure if you were only talking about the Siteseer model. But the Winnebego Vista 35B has bunks if that is of interest. yeah the 35J was replaced with the 35B. Not sure why, the 35J is an exceedingly livable plan. Ours has been mostly trouble free. Couple pinhole leaks in hydraulic hoses, a small panel rusted - both replaced under warranty the first time by the Dealer. The only thing I can offer to the OP is check the coach you actually plan to buy in great detail. Both can build great and horrible coaches - depends on the folks that day of build :( In general I've heard more Tiffin complaints here but I've also heard of Winnie issues in the last 12 months. Check yours out very thoroughly regardless of your ultimate choice.

RE: Choosing Gasoline or Diesel Powered?

I have noticed that they have different hp ratings for the ford triton v-10 305 hp for class c motorhomes and 365 hp for class A motorhomes typo error I asked a local ford dealer they said they were unawared of 2 hp ratings for the v-10 I am thinking of trading my class c on a class A gas would like your thoughts on this There are. 2 valve in e series because of no room under hood. Air breathing I think. Class a has 3 valve. This was true in 2007. Not sure it its changed since.
