RE: Gas Mileage

We took a trip this summer that took us from central Kentucky to Robesonia, Pa. We took I64 to I79 through WV to I68 to I81. Round trip was 1566 miles total. Overall we averaged 10.3 mpg. The two lowest MPG where the two tanks through WV. those two averaged out to be 8.7 in the mountains. The best MPG with the camper on was in PA, averaged out to be 10.3. With out the camper I got 16 running around PA. This was while pulling a Passport 280 BH with an 07 F150 Supercrew, 5.4l.

RE: towing with a f150

I have a Passport 280BH. Unloaded weight is 4300 lbs, According to the sticker in the cabinet. I pull it with a F150 with a 5.4 l with 3.73 axle. The truck has a towing capacity of 9300 lbs. I personally would not want anymore trailer for this truck. I would say fully loaded we are easily pushing 5500 lbs if not more. I have never weighted it. I would not mind having a little more truck when I get into the mountains heading east. Just my opinion, but I feel this is a good match for the truck for the trips we take. We took a trip to PA and a trip to WI this year and it did great, like I stated in some cases it would be nice to have that little extra power on a mountain pull. Running normal interstate 60 to 65 is not a problem.

RE: 2009 Keystone Passport 280BH

We have just completed the 1 year mark with our 08 Passport 280BH. We have slept in in 35 nights so far this summer alone. For us this has been a great camper, we had a few minor issues in the first few weeks that required some attention, but the dealership we purchased ours from completed the fixes under warranty and life has been good. We did a our longest trip this year, a 1600 mile round trip voyage from Kentucky to PA. Everything went well, we pull ours with a 2007 F150 Supercrew. As far as the mattress, we ditched ours and went to Big Lots and purchased a new one serta. I did have to modify the plywood base by extending it because the mattress is longer than the original. Overall this has been a great unit for us.

RE: 1st flat tire on TT, with pics

I also have those "cheap" tires on my camper. They are less than a year old and do you know I had one go flat on me two weeks ago as well. If I only had those better tires on the camper. Does those more expensive tires keep nails out?

F150 pulling a Passport 280BH mileage report

Just thought I would share a mileage report. We just returned form a trip that took us from central Kentucky to Robesonia, Pa. Looks to be pretty average when compared to others. Thanks

My gut tells me you would not be happy at all with it at all. At times I wish I had a little more more truck when I get into the mountains heading east of central Kentucky.

RE: mythbuster

If GM is number one, then why are we as American tax payers bailing them out?

RE: Kentucky 627, Winchester to Boonesborrow

627 is a nice wide highway from 7 over to Winchester. You will have no problems getting a motorhome down that road.

RE: Boonesborrow Kentucky

Did you mean Fort Boonesborough just north of Richmond, Ky? If so, the road is a wide highway up tot he park road. We just camped there this past weekend for the 3rd time this season. Plenty of big rigs come a go from there. The campground is a nice one. They now have full hook sites as well. Sites 8,9,10,12,14,16,18,20 24 & 26 have full hooks only, the rest are water and electric only. They have a pool located on the grounds. Seems like every weekend they have some sort of entertainment going on as well. Hope this helps

RE: KY Campgrounds

It roughly 10 to 12 miles between Stanford and Danville. If you mean Greensburg, ky I can not help you much. It looks like it might be close to Green River State Park or Holmes Bend which I think is a COE campground. If it close to those two I have good things about those two campground, although we have never been there personally. Maybe someone else more familiar with that are will offer some info.

RE: KY Campgrounds

I live about 7 miles from Danville. The campground there is the Pioneer Playhouse Campground. I have been by it many times and the most I have ever seen there is 1 to 2 campers. It does not look that bad, I would think your stay would be quiet. The plays are neat to see though. I believe they only have electric and water hook ups and a dump station. South of Danville in Stanford is a newer campground call Cedar Creek. I have never checked it out, but is says it has full hook ups. Here is a link to Cedar Creek Cedar Creek In Bardstown you can look at My Old Kentucky Home State Park, water and electric hook ups only with a dump station. Old Kentucky Home Lexington area has the Horse Park. Hope this helps a little.

RE: Keystone Passport vs. Bullet vs. Forest River Surveyor

The Passport is a good model as long as you stay away from the 2007 models. I cannot say much about Forest River, but I am betting that it's a good unit to. It really comes down to looking both over and determining which one fits your needs. Good Luck.

RE: Kentucky Horse Park

We will be there this weekend. We go there several times a year because it is close to home and the campground is nice. the pool should be open now as well. It really nice to get up in the morning and take a walk out the back side of the campground and go see some of the horsed being worked out as well. You should not be disappointed in your stay.

RE: Louisville/Lexington KY Camping Suggestions Needed :)

We stayed at the Horse Park this past weekend. We go there several times a year since it is right up the road. However i have to agree with MKC. This past weekend was a horse show of some kind. I guess when you own horses, drive class A motorhomes, drive mercedes benz, and speed around on golf carts you don't need to follow the rules. We had a lady driving here golf cart between campers to cut through to the office because I guess the drive around the road was just to far for her. The lady next to us would drive around on her golf cart while her dog ran along side. This is okay with me, but the dog would stop to relieve itself and she kept going, I guess as long as the dog does not go on her sight she did not see the need to pick up after it. Another lady was doing the same thing, she would bring her dog from the other side of the campground to go to the bathroom and then drive the two of them back to her site. We never saw anyone dumping gray water, they have a service truck that will drive around and for a small fee you can get them to pump your tanks out for you. You also have sign a paper about gray water now stating if you get caught you will get fined. Problem is, I have never seen anyone from the horse park patrolling the campground. As far as extra vehicles on a site, that is not enforced either at the horse park, or a lot of Kentucky state parks. Don't get me wrong the horse park is still a great park. This was the first time I have come across this when we have been there. If the normal camping crowd is there you will not see this. It has something to do with being a horse person that must give you the right to break rules. I would still recommend this campground to anyone.

RE: Lexington and Louisville RV Parks

Louisville - Look at Charlestown State Park in Indiana full hook up sites, and within your range In Lexington you might consider Fort Boonesborough they now have full hook sites as well. Sites 8,9,10,12,14,16,18,20 24 & 26 have full hooks only. I am sure other people have other suggestions as well

RE: Jayco vs Passport

We have had our 08 Passport 280BH since last August and really enjoy it. It pulls great, I think it pulls better than my old Springdale 19' model. The only problems we have had is with the black tank gauge not working, dealer fixed that and also our pantry door came off it's hinges. Again, fixed under warranty. I think Jayco makes a good product, our big factor was weight and price when we purchased.

We will be out and about this weekend at Fort Boonesborough in Richmond. Can't wait for the weekend. This will be our official start to the camping season this year.

RE: KY Horse Park

I am not sure if you know this or not. I just discovered it a few weeks ago myself. If you go to the Kentucky State Park web site and go to the campground reservations page you can look at a picture of each site at most of the state campgrounds. Like I say, I am not sure if this is new this year or if I just never noticed it before. At least a person can get and idea of what a site looks like before you book it. Just thought I would pass that along. We stay at the horse park several times since it is only 45 minutes away. Most all the sites are good. On site C140 you can park a long rig on it because it was an access road at one time. Most of the sites on the outer loop between C138 to C143 are pretty level and open.
