Like the Tiffin Phaeton and Fleetwood Discovery. Both bunkhouse plans. What are the seasoned veterns saying about these? I personally think they are good mid level units. will keep for about 6 yrs. Thanks for all the replies! I am in the same boat, which two floorplans?

Now I am curious. What is the percentage on the grades there. I thing that would have a bearing also. I think Berthoud is only 6. Most passes in CO are 6-8 range and you should expect at least one of those when traversing the Continental Divide. A little steeper than hills in Illinois?

Mileage wise, it is not that long of a ascent or descent. It is steep with switchbacks, but really not that bad during summer months. Would not want to pull a trailer over Berthoud pass in a winter blizzard though! Plus, your speeds are generally slow, since there are so many switchbacks. I think Eisenhower pass/tunnel is much tougher than Berthoud Pass, mainly due to the higher speeds being harder on brakes. I agree. I-70 with the traffic and length is crazy at times while Bertoud is short and curvy. So, what part of a 3500 is better at climbing and descending than a 2500 diesel? They are the same truck. Carrying that much weight for a 2500 won't be an issue. Kaydeejay, the newer fifth wheels are long and light. If you are looking at premium FWs, they are heavy. The newer medium priced 36ft FWs are pretty light. My 36 footer is less than 13k camp ready. ww07

They all have Mule's long before they're sold to the public. F550 use the PSD 6.7 or Cummins? Maybe I'm thinking of the F650 that have the Cummins. Interesting ad though Troy. Boy that one guy with the red tank on sure had a set of guns :E You can see the badge on the Ford; it is a PowerStroke 6.7. I am a RAM lover, so before the Ford guys chime in and say why the video is inaccurate....I will say how much I LOVE the video! Good things come to those who wait; and it appears that RAM is going to have a great few years being the most dependable AND powerful! Great job on the 2013s. ww07

RE: Does max turn front cap need slider hitch

The BIL is looking at a new Cougar. It has the new style corners on the front cap. The RV guy told him he does not need a sliding hitch on a short bed truck. I can see that he would get a few more degrees of turn before he hit the cab, but it is still an 8 ft. wide trailer, and the hitch would be less than 4 ft. from the cab. Can't imagine turning more than 90 degrees, but some of the places I've back into have been ugly. Just don't want him to think he never has to watch that corner. I have the new cap on a Montana and a short (6'4") bed. I cannot turn to 90, but pretty close. Can't see needing to go much more. Problem is, when you get to 85, if the ground is uneven that you might tag the cab. It is that close.... I have a slider but never use it with the new cap. That's not a recommendation either way. Just the facts. If I needed a new hitch, I wouldn't get a slider next time, if that helps. Sliders are really heavy. ww07

If 230 is the mountain climbing temp, I wouldn't worry about a thing. Mine CTDs have all been right at 225 going up. I am pulling 13k. Tranny temp is what I would watch.

You can do it until you get to Colorado...then you won't enjoy it! I would agree with this.....half way up the pass is a bad time to figure out that you cant just pull over and cool down a bit! All bets are off in the mountains..... The Ram has 392 hp, so you should be ok....take your time in the mountains.....both up and down.

How is changing from a Travel Trailer to a 5th Wheel an "upgrade"? Seems to me it is just a change in type of camper. I figured when I read the "headline" that this was going to be in here. First response.....pretty quick! A fiver is indeed an upgrade, if you are comparing apples to apples. An entry level fiver is nicer than an entry level TT and on up. Just in the way it tows is an upgrade. More room, higher ceilings, more storage.... And if you look at the high end fiver compared to the high end TT, there is NO comparison. Just like a TT is an upgrade over a tent trailer, so is a fiver to a TT. ww07

Since 2007 I have towed with three different trucks, all Dodges and the 6.7L with EB. I am a true believer in using the CC as much as possible. I would say 98% of the time. Where I live there are some pretty big hills and I don't cancel the cruise for anything but a wet or icy road. I personally do not like tow/haul. It is WAY too agressive for the measley 13K I am towing. The tranny does well without it and it keeps the TC locked a little too long on the steeper hills....but then again we only have itty bitty hills out here; I think they're called the Rockies. ww07

I find this thread interesting and frustrating at the same time. Having driven class 8 trucks in all 48 contiguous states over the last 17 years, I have never had so many issues trying to ensure I am with in all my legal limits. I can find some of the information here and some there and even within the paper work that came with my truck, once I put it on the scale, I find a different story. Searching the web I find even more contradictory information. Dealers have no idea what vehicles can legally pull what. I was told all I needed way a 3/4 ton, but as I do the math and weight things, I appear to be near the limits of what my book and I feel comfortable with, having a 1 ton dually to pull my meager 5'r (13,820# GVWR by the manufacturer's paperwork). Will have to weigh in the spring when reloaded for the season. It's no wonder so many say "puck it" and just go! Well, did you look at the information found at Fifth Wheel St? What do you mean by "legally tow"? I don't think many of us are illegal unless you are towing drunk without a seatbelt on and making tacos while you drive. 13,800 could be a lot for a 2500 if the pin is up around 2500lbs or more. If so, Ride Rites would do the trick. There is no "legal" and when is comes to non-commercial towing and there is very little difference between a diesel 2500 and a 3500. Both will pull 13,800 without a problem. The 2500 might just need a little help holding up her arse since the springs are a little lighter than the 3500..... Just the facts, sir. ww07

That looks like a good combination. Get the 5.7L, skip the 4.7L if it is even available in the Durango. 4.7? That hasn't been an option for quite some time.........

I appreciate all the replies, the reason, well one of the reasons I asked was after being on a cummins site everyone there including people with newer trucks that would still be under warranty are doing everything to recommend that I or anyone with a new truck do the DPF deletes to provide longivity to the motor by keeping the black soot from running through the motor and that by leaving the DPF intact will cause more problems down the road. Oh yea the better MPG would be nice but I knew buying the truck that I wasn't buying it for MPG so I'm pretty much happy with the 16 I'm getting and have at times gotten as high as 18.7 level road with no wind and hope that after I get 20-30K miles on the clock it will improve some. I asked because this might well be the last new truck I own, not that I plan on going anywhere but I want the truck to last several 100K miles. Here are some facts. I had a 2010 RAM 6.7 (2500) and ran it deleted for two years. I had it in for service several times and I told them it was deleted with a tuner on it and NOT to do anything with the ECM. They respected that. In the service bay was another 2010, edge tuner and 5" exhaust.....no worries at ALL from the dealer. My last dealer in Omaha, same deal. Did not care. But there is a caveat; the service manager in both dealerships said the same thing: "if something in the driveline breaks, Dodge will want to send the broken piece in for testing. If it is determined that the breakage was due to the tuner, you will be liable for the cost of repairs". I was told that the most common is the EDGE tuners burn up injectors and the added HP/TQ wreaks havoc on torque converters. This is also fact: A deleted 6.7 will run A LOT cleaner (internally) than with all the emissions. The worst for the engine is the EGR and recycling soot. One of the biggest advantages of the tuner/delete is that you either bypass the EGR or run a tuner that shuts it off. This alone is worth 1-2 MPG. Your oil will clear up. A LOT! And, if you have your oil tested and Blackstone, they will show you tangible results from your oil tests. Your warranty may be 100,000 and 5 years, but the damage being done to your 6.7 will take more years and miles and it will slowly be destroyed by the emissions. Mild tunes with a delete generates very little black smoke and the power, torque, and mileage are all improved. So, this is the critical thinking I took away from experience vs facts from the dealer; you are gambling with thousands of dollars worth of repairs if you delete. It is also illegal and you can (not likely) get a ticket. In Colorado you don't have to have a diesel test the first four years of life. BUT, if you have to have work done on the truck, you will need to flash it to stock and reconnect all the deleted parts. About 45-60 minutes.... My recommendation would be to leave it stock for 10-15000 miles and see if you are having any issues. Then delete it with a smarty and run it for another 10K. See what you think.....personally, I like the tuner; Smarty or Smarty JR. Edge is probably dead and the MAXX and Black Maxx are a little more agressive but people seem to like them. Talking about deletes around this forum really won't get you the answers you need. This seems to be a very conservative group. You need to go to the Cummins forums or dodge truck forums and ask the guys that have done it. Less than 100HP tune and a couple hundered torque increase will not harm your truck......but you need to read about what could happen and make your decisions based on facts and experience. on edit....I now have a RAM HO 6.7 3500 and it runs about the same as my old 6.7 with the tuner on it. My mileage was better on the old truck, but that was due to more the mileage vs the tuner. The new HO runs pretty strong, IMO. ww

??????????? Then what is the DEF for??? NOX Rick, NOX. DPF is for soot and DEF and EGR is for NOX. Your little slant 6 is looking better all the time, hu? :B Oh I was thinking the DEF was injected instead of the fuel to burn off the soot in the DPF. I've got some reading to do so I'll actively or passively logout now and go googling :S 45, you are correct...don't know what Turtle is talking about.... (on edit) I stand corrected....DEF is injected to lower Nox levels in the DPF. I guess the soot is still burned in the DPF.......

You'll be hard pressed to stay under your 75% rating goal :B This is a true statement. Probable want to stay under 2000 on pin and 10,000 on total FW weight. IMO.
