RE: Trailer insurance question

I'm sure most of us know that adjusters are not our friend. If they are company employee adjusters or for hire adjusters, it makes no difference. They have one thing on their mind and that is to get you to agree to the least amount possible.
Hold their feet to the fire and never accept their first offer. It is all negotiable.

RE: Where to park near The Varsity downtown Atlanta

If memory serves the Varsity has a lot immediately on the north side of their multi level deck with entry/exit onto Spring St.
I'm not sure I would do it however.

RE: TST tpms battery change?

That o-ring is very tiny and a bit hard to get on, but it does fit. I was scared I would break it, but it went on. I too have had to replace the sensor to valve stem gasket on a couple of mine, but TST sent me several spares of this gasket as well as the o-rings. Wal-Mart sells the batteries, but they are in the watch/jewelry area.

RE: air conditioner leaking water into camper

Ch the condition of the gasket between the a/c and the roof. New this gasket is almost 1" thick and compresses over time. You will see 4 hold down screws, one in each corner of the a/c. These get loose over time as the gasket gets older and compresses. You may just need to tighten these screws a little. They should be just a hair more than hand tight.

RE: China Bombs Got Me

It does bother me some also that when a problem is reported the OP is asked 20 questions about what he might have done wrong. He may have, but I don't think this procedure is required. It does nothing to help solve the problem, but it might hinder others in their desire to post.
The problem isn't necessarily the RV manufacturers fault. They are in a competitive environment and they have to use the most economical tires they can get in order to sell their product and stay in business. The real problem, IMHO, is that all of the cheap junk tires meet the specifications and requirements for the various load ranges which the RV manufacturers use to pick the proper tire. It is obvious to me with all of the problems that they must not in a lot of cases or they use inferior materials or manufacturing procedures such that the tires don't last.
With this being said, I just replaced 4 Marathon ST235/80-16 E tires on my 5'er. They only had 3,000 miles on them, but they would be 4 years old before I return to my home base in another 4 months. I just didn't want to take the chance. Another factor is that they were loaded to 3,000 each (yes I have a weight ticket to prove this). This only leaves a little over 400 pounds of wiggle room to the max weight for each tire. I upgraded to GY G614 G rated tires with a max load/tire of 3,750/tire. And yes my wheels are rated for this weight and tire pressure of 110 psi and metal valve stems were installed also.
After towing with these new tires two days ago for 260 miles I noticed two things different from towing with the original E rated Marathons. After 2 hours of cruising at 60 mph on an interstate, the tire pressure only increased about 10-12 psi over what was set prior to departure and the tire temp only creased approx 10-12 degrees. The Marathons pressure would only increase about 10-12 psi also, but the tire temp would go up close to 20 degrees. Why the extra increase? Not sure, but more tire flex maybe? Either way, I feel much better with my new G614's.

RE: Tomorrow is the Day

A major part of St. Andrews Campground was burned this past December to clean up the underbrush. You notice the more open look as soon as you enter the campground. It does look better, but the burned palmetto's still show a bit of char. I talked with someone late yesterday that was here when the burning was being done and they said the burn caused a major rat problem and one host had some major damage. It seems the displaced rats were looking for any hole to crawl into and made a home in the belly of a motor home. A lot of wiring and other damage was done. Fortunately that was several months ago and no problems are being reported now.

RE: Tomorrow is the Day

I arrived at my summer camp host position yesterday after a 260 mile tow. It was the first tow since late last year and all went well. I have 8 new tires on my rig and it is always amazing to me how much new tires improve things, or maybe we just want it to be better due to the money we have just spent. My overall mileage was 12.1 mpg.
Want to see my camp site? Go to Google Earth and search for:
30 8.384 N 85 44.600 W and then go to street view.
This picture was taken two years ago when I was on the same site. Home Sweet Home, at least for the next 4 months.

RE: Camp Hosting

I'm leaving my home base today for a 4 month host position at St. Andrews State Park in Panama City, FL. This will be my 3rd summer back at this same park. Obviously I like it.
Now to finish this cup and hook up.

Thanks for the reply guys. I will be on site #158 unless they change it. Look me up. The cigar is a great idea.
Now if I can muster up the motivation to get hooked up and head south. Maybe a second cup will do the truck.

RE: Norcold refrigerator door lock problem I want a better fix

Diplomat Don has the solution. Buy some flat washers and you can add them as needed. Remove the screw on the top hinge and lift the door off of the bottom pin/hinge. Add as many small flat washers as needed to lift the door so the latch clicks. I had to do this 2-3 times early on and finally the door quit sagging as I moved.
I too don't keep much weight in the door while traveling.
A hand full of small flat washers costs pennies.

RE: Who here cooks inside camper or Outside camper?

I full time and I cook inside 99% of the time just like I did in my s&b. I do grill outside about as much as I did when living in my home.
This is my home and it does have all of the comforts so why not use them, as was stated previously.

RE: Recommendations for a preferred TPMS System.

TST 507 system here. I have had it for a little over a year and it works perfectly. The only time it has "saved me" so far was my error. I had checked the pressure in my 5'er tires late one evening before an early morning departure from a very quiet campground. I didn't want to run my air compressor immediately prior to departure out of courtesy to the other campers. Obviously I didn't screw the wheel sensor back on tight enough on one wheel and it had been leaking overnight. I had moved 50' or so and the TST alarm went off. Since I saw it was low pressure I left the park and stopped on the road right out front. Fired up my generator and compressor and aired the tire back up, it was only down about 10 psi, and went on my way. The TST system allowed me to watch that tire until I arrived at my destination. The pressure help up so obviously I was the error. I would have left the site with a low tire and not known it without a TPMS system.
Yeah I know if I hadn't had the TPMS system I wouldn't have made the mistake of not tightening the sensor enough, but then I wouldn't have the TPMS system either. At last I won't do that again.

RE: Tire Pressure Monitor System

I have the TST 507 system and love it also. While I like the idea of the pass through sensors I am concerned about having an extra valve that could leak. Has this been an issue for anyone?

RE: Goodyear Tires

I am like a previous post that just put a set of G614's on his 5'er 5 days ago, except I put my set of G614's on my 5'er three days ago. The Marathons that were on the trailer were original and just a tad over 4 years old. They gave good service with never a problem, but it was time for replacements in my mind due to age. The reason I went back with G614's was the increased load capacity vs the E rated Marathons. I have weighed my 5'er and each tire is loaded to 3,000 pounds. The G614's give me a bit more cushion.
To add more fuel to this thread, the following is a recommendation from Good Year on how to store tires while still mounted.
From www.goodyear.com
Storing Your Vehicle Without Removing the Tires
Ideally, a vehicle in storage should be placed on blocks to remove all weight from the tires. If the vehicle cannot be put on blocks, follow these steps for tire protection:
Completely unload the vehicle so that minimum weight will be placed on the tires
Inflate tires to recommended operating pressure plus 25%. Ensure that the rim manufacturer’s inflation capacity is not exceeded
Be sure the storage surface is firm, clean, well drained and reasonably level
Avoid moving the vehicle during extremely cold weather
Move the vehicle at least every three months to prevent ozone cracking in the tire bulge area, as well as “flat-spotting” from the prolonged strain of sidewall and tread deflection
Adjust inflation before putting the vehicle back into service
I thought the second recommendation was interesting. Inflate to 25% over recommended maximum (if your wheels will handle it). Hmmmm, G rated tires would be inflated to 138 (I can't do this because my wheels are only rated to 110psi). E rated tires would need to be stored at 100 psi.
Now, where is my popcorn?

I will be replacing my original ST tires this coming Monday with Good Year G614 "G" rated tires. I thought about trying to stretch the original tires one more year, but chickened out.
