RE: Chrysler says RAM will gain advantage over GM

If Dodge had an Allison I would have considered one. Is the Allison any better than the Chrysler/Ram 68RFE or the AISIN Auto Tranny? The Allison in the GM P.U.'s isn't related or similar to the Allisons in Big Rigs is it? GM is just using the Allison name, but their automatic, though a good one, it isn't huskier than the Ram or Ford Auto Tranny used in their 3/4 and 1 ton P.U.'s?

RE: My 2005 Dodge Cummins Has A P1740 CEL

So was that your first tranny service at 40k miles? If so you were way overdue. Dodge suggests 30k and just me but I shoot for 20k with only the drop pan method. Glad to hear your good news. Good luck Rick Yep, but we haven't towed our TT that much in those 40k+ miles. No metal filings in the tranny pan or pumpkin. However tranny oil was getting dirty, but wasn't burnt. Wife and I have always idled the cummins 5 minutes or more after pulling the TT to cool-down the tranny fluid.

RE: My 2005 Dodge Cummins Has A P1740 CEL

I apologize to all who responded for not getting back to you sooner. I took the PU to Yark Dodge in Toledo, Oh., and the auto trannie tech said the P1740 was thrown "80" starts ago and had not re-ocurred. He checked the torque converter and it looked just fine. Transmission oil was overdue for a change and showed it, but wasn't burnt. He cleared the P1740 and test drove the truck and said that it shifted just fine. I had Yark Dodge do a tranny fluid change on my 48RE and also do a rear differential fluid change. A flush was not done on the tranny, but instead a "pull the pan/replace the filter" oil change was done. Pan residue showed no metal filings or larger pieces of metal, just unburnt fluid that needed a change. Rear differential showed no metal particles, and was changed with special Mopar fluid for my 11" American axle. My 05 Cummins only has 40K+ original miles on it. Mechanic told me to hold onto my cummins as he said that the last generation 5.9 is his personal favorite. Not trying to ruffle any 6.7 Cummins feathers. Just mentioned this as this made me feel pretty good about having purchased in 05 this particular Cummins engine. Mechanic said that my 48Re was based on the bullet proof 727 Torqueflite design, and should give me good service. ****** However he did caution me to hit the accellerator pretty good once in a while as there is a linkage of some type on the turbocharger that can get rusty from non use when driving to easy on the "loud" pedal. He said not to go around spinning the tires constantly, but hit the pedal pretty hard once in a while to keep this linkage from getting stuck closed or open. Someone probably knows what he's referring to. I'm no turbocharge expert. ***** Anyway, He said watch for the P1740 never the less, but he thinks it is what they call a "fluke". I hope so. ******

My 2005 Dodge Cummins Has A P1740 CEL

Please tell me it isn't a real serious/expensive fix? I've got a P1740 code that came up on my 05 Dodge Cummins 2500. PU is driveable with this code. There is a bit of a change in the "feel" of the Auto Trannie's shift in lower gears. Shifts a little harder, but not too much of a difference from before the P1740. Me and the wife are retired. Fixed income, and hope our savings doesn't need to be tapped to fix this. :(

RE: Ford EcoBoost MPG

averaging 70? That means to me you were towing faster than that at times. Slow down to 60 and see how you do. Speed or economy, pick one, not both. Even eightball is reporting his mpg @ 55mph. If he checked his numbers @ 70+, I bet they will be lower. Interestingly at 70+ Mph. I get about 21 mpgs empty, flat land, no wind. Don't know what my Ram Cummins would get pulling our 10K lbs TT at 70+? I would hazard a guess that it would be about 10-11 MPG on the flat and no wind. Just a guess as I stick to 55-60 mph towing speeds for optimum fuel mileage, and also I try to let my vacations be non stressful and not hurried. :)

RE: Here's one for ya - water pump failed, 3x

As much as I like to save on car parts, I learned my lesson about brake rotors from O'Reillys/Autozone/Pepboys.......They are usually Chinese built, like to warp a short time after installation, and sometimes are in violation of minimum rotor thickness regulations. Brake man told me he only bought OEM rotors that were from the original vehicle manufacturer. I did that on my last do-it-myself brake job and had great results.

RE: Ford EcoBoost MPG

Isn't the Ecoboost suppose to be getting diesel type mileage while towing? If it is, I'd say 8 MPG's is lower than diesel pulling fuel mileage. To buy an Ecoboost powered F series doesn't it cost quite a bit extra over the standard engine; probably not as much extra as a diesel though? My 05 Cummins 3/4 ton Ram 3:73 rearend gets 13-14 MPG towing a 10k lbs TT at 55 mph no wind, on the flat. My 05 Cummins 3/4 ton Ram 3:73 rearend gets about 22-23 MPGs not towing, running about 55-60 mph. no wind, on the flat. I thought that the ecoboost was suppose be up there with the diesel mileage?

RE: Tow Report 2011 Chrysler T&C Limited & 2012 Lance 1575

Read on Autoblog that Chrysler is going to faze out the Town and Country and let the Dodge brand continue with the van chassis. I believe that the CEO made that decision.

RE: Diesel <$4 a gal in northern California

Here in Northwest Ohio/Toledo area regular has been going down. I've seen it around $3.45/gallon at many gas stations and Diesel is a tad below $4.00/gallon.

RE: Now That We're In Northwest Ohio.....

There also is an outdoor power tool shop at The Andersons in Maumee that should be able to walk you through the John Deer and Cub Cadet (if I remember correctly) options. They are a great group to work with. Anderson doesn't carry Cub Cadet, just John Deere, and boy oh boy are they every high priced. :E Apologies for the bad info.. Its been a couple of years since I have been in there so my memory is fuzzy :h But I do remember the prices being different from the BORG because they are actually built by John Deere and not a contract built machine. I didn't recall them being way over the top. I should stop in and get myself some sticker shock this weekend! :B Wife and I stopped in at Andersons last weekend and we thought we were walking into a Cadillac dealership. Nothing in my budget there unless I bought one of their Tonka toy John Deere toys for my grandson.

RE: Now That We're In Northwest Ohio.....

Very true about the Lake Effect missing us in Toledo area. Bob Cat is an excellent brant Zero turn mower by the way as mentioned by one of the posters. The owner of the property who is selling to me has a Bob Cat in the garage and said he might sell it to me. So I'm willing to wait and see what comes of that. Also, I noticed that Sears had a Husquavarna Zero turn with a 54 cutting swath, but the deck is stamped and not welded. Sears has it at $2,999.99 with a Kohler engine. Think the Horse Power is 24. Can get a Kawasaki powered 54 inch cut Husquavarna for $3,600.00 from a dealer in Holland, Ohio. that has the re-inforced cutting deck.
