RE: 6 volt batteries

I have (6) 6V that I picked up from Sams Club. DWand I were just figuring out how old they've been used on 2 different trailers. So far they've been going on over 5 years and are still working great. They do get abused pretty good but we have plenty of charge going into them and I try my best to keep them filled.
The basic chemistry and design of lead acid batteries is over 100 years old. For deep cycle, one of the most important factors is weight. The more lead they put into them, the more likely it is they will last a long time if treated right. The Trojan T-105 weighs 63 pounds. The Sam's Club Deka weighed in at 66-67 pounds. There were other considerations, but I decided the SC was worth trying out.
The SC was 230 AH, the Trojan 225 AH. The Trojan was $162 locally, the SC about $94 (tax included). The core charge for the Trojan was $20, for the SC it was $5, making the Trojan about $182, the SC about $100.
What's the core charge got to do with it? It's a deposit that you get back, thus = $0.00!

RE: 6 volt batteries

Two T-105's came with it and are still in it and doing well.
You do the math!
Spend the money to buy GOOD!
Maintain them Correctly!
Use a good three stage converter! (PD9145 with Charge Wizard).
Buying new batteries every few years will cost you more over time.
JMHO!
When I did the math, I just couldn't justify the Trojans and went with Sam's Club EGC2s. The Trojans would have had to last 12 years for the increased cost to be worth it for me, plus I got more capacity with the SCs. I agree that doing the math is the right thing and buying a good 3 stage charger/converter will pay for itself. Teach yourself how to do it right, keep them charged and watered, and they'll last at least 6 years - more if you are careful.
2012 - 1998 THAT'S 14 years!!!

RE: 6 volt batteries

My 1999 model Bounder on a Ford chassis was built in April 1998. Two T-105's came with it and are still in it and doing well.

RE: Adding fresh water using RV water pump

Below every stand pipe group water faucet in every campground I have ever been in is a sump drain for overflow from the faucet and for GREY water generated by campers whether they are tenters or RV'ers. That is where the excess grey water goes. Silly me I thought most folks knew that.
Jim
Sorry, never saw any in the campgrounds I have been in.
However I have seen the signs stating that it is illegal to dump gray water except at the dump station.

RE: Adding fresh water using RV water pump

Another minor point: If you are needing to add that much additional water, what are you doing with the waste water since most RV's don't have the capacity to hold more than one fresh water tank full in their waste tanks?

RE: Tire pressures while driving

Funny how what you never knew was happening becomes so much more interesting when you have the right equipment.
On my first trip the alarm went off and showed that I had low pressure in one tire early one cool morning. On the way to a source for air the tire warmed and the alarm stopped.

RE: Time to replace the Trojan batteries?

My Trojan T105's are 12 years old and going strong. If you just have to replace yours, I'll be glad to take your old ones and pay your $10.00 Core Fee!

RE: Converting Air Compressor from 120v to 12v

Do you really think that all the semi-trucks that pass through the Rocky Mountains passes (some at 12,000 ft. at Leadville, CO) and then go on to sea level and below, (such as passing through Death Valley) even consider changing the pressure in their tires? Really?
Save your money! Quit worrying!

RE: what color touch up paint for Alpenlite?

If you have a small piece that you can remove (like a cargo door), take it to an auto paint store and they should be able to match it.
X2
That will also allow for age/fade, which original paint will not!
