RE: Transfer Files? Odd blanks in some files

I wonder if some of the file extensions on your new laptop are mapped to 2013. I haven't played with Win 8 so not sure if it's still there, but if you right-click on the "red icon" files and do an "Open With..." and use your Word 2004 can you read the file?
Just wondering if the pattern might be something like DOC files are ok but DOCX point to 2013 or something similar. Something is telling Windows to look for Word 2013 and then it's not finding it as it's not installed. That's usually set in the File Extension mapping.

RE: Help with awning LED strip

gvisnic,
I have a set like the OP posted installed on my awning. In my experience the IR receiver (tiny little black plastic blob at the end of the short cord on the small white box) is VERY fussy about positioning. As I recall (and I'm not at my RV) it's the rounded side of the blob that has the sensor, and it must be facing the remote. You can see the sensor imbedded in the plastic to be sure. Turned around? Doesn't work. Sideways? Get varied results and "confused" signals (wrong color lights etc.) Face-on? Works.
You could indeed have a bum controller and/or transmitter, but make sure the little IR antenna is positioned properly. I thought mine was bad at first until I figured it out.

RE: Water pump shuts off for several minutes then restarts??

The way you describe it, sounds like the pressure switch is working eventually but not reacting right away.
Probably the switch has gone bad and pump needs replacing, but I'm wondering if some sort of clog could cause this... something on the output side of the pump like a bad check valve that only slowly lets water pass into the system after you run your faucets so it takes some time to detect the pressure drop. Or maybe a valve on the output side that isn't fully open?
One thing you might try (as you'll have to do this anyways if you replace the pump) is to disconnect the pump from the plumbing on the output side and see what happens... if the pump is ok then it should detect the drop in pressure and immediately turn on and you know to look for something downstream. If it doesn't then you know what needs to be replaced. Caution: you will get wet doing this as I had to do the same once before.
Just a thought before you spring for a new pump.

Think they were built by Fleetwood. Don't know much else about them.
Here's a link where you can download the Owners manual if you don't have it already.

RE: Winnebago Brave-Where's the radio??

The "aux" button box is for the TVs.
The bay radio should be stand-alone. As the previous poster ask, do you mean it doesn't power up? Do the rest of the items in the entertainment bay (especially the 12v cigarette plug) have power? If not, then I'd be checking the 12v fuses at your power panel. If everything else is ok, I'd pull the radio and check for an in-line fuse in it's power cord that might have blown.

RE: DVD Player hook up Black&White only?

I'd suspect you are using a 3-plug cable (red/white for audio and yellow for video). At one end or the other you have plugged into the Component video ports instead of the Composite video ports.
Component video uses just the one cable (usually color-coded yellow) to send the full video signal. Composite video requires 3 cables for the video (usually coded red, green, and blue.)
You'll have to look at the back of your DVD and TV and figure out which connections they both have (component or composite) and then use the appropriate cable.

RE: What would you do?

Agreed with Blangen. When you start talking diesel vs gas, understand that in most coaches it's not just the engine fuel, its a whole difference in platform.
Will vary model to model, but in a lot of cases the "diesel" is also getting you a heavier chassis, rear engine, air bags, air brakes etc. Most will say it's a quieter, "better" driving experience, perhaps more CCC, perhaps better turning radius.
And of course with that comes more things to break, higher maintenance $, and more systems to understand ("what the heck is an (h)air dryer doing in the chassis?") Only you can decide if it's right for you.
When I last upgraded (gas to diesel) it was NOT based on the chassis, it was to get a better floor plan. It just so happened that it came on a DP.
Wyo - so you stop RVing at 130... what's your point? ;)

RE: What would you do?

Go with the floor plan you like best. You drive some of the time but "live" in it all the time.
Both gas and diesel will get you from A to B eventually. While sitting at the park you won't be thinking you wished you had one or the other; you'll be wishing you had another slide, a different chair, or that darn sharp corner wasn't in the way.
The only thing you don't mention is if you will be towing. That may be a factor, depending on the units you are considering.

RE: Itasca/Winnebago lighting

I'm not at my coach so doing this from memory.
If I recall, on my Vectra the oval fog lights were after-market installed at the build. I want to say "Hella" but not sure.
Look very close at your fog lights, on mine there was a brand name on the glass lens. Might give you a lead in your search.

And in some cases, they COULD accommodate you on the lot and will say so, but some of the turns and trees make it impossible to drive through to get to the lot.

RE: changing out roof dishes

Agreed. Can't simply swap dishes.
You could do a complete roof antenna swap, replacing existing with a Winegard Trav'ler crank up... that's the one that gets DirecTV HD and the new sats. Not cheap though.
Does look like your Las Vegas stations are only being carried on sat 99 (channels 3, 5, 8, 10, 13, and 33.)

Doesn't appear to sense at driving speeds, looks like you need to slowly pull up, so not sure how practical, but the technology does exist.

RE: Buying used

One of the nice things about Winnebago is the amount of online information the company provides.
Since you say you are new to "A"s you might want to check these out:
If you go here brochures you can download the original sales brochures for each model. This will give you some idea of the original floorplans, features, options etc.
If you go here manuals you can download the owner's manuals for each units, which will give you a feel for how to operate each RV.
If you chose one of those (after a thorough exam) the same site will give you plumbing and electrical diagrams for your chosen RV.
Good luck on your decision.

RV program Monday night

Short notice, but there is a new show... "Epic RVs" (part of an "Epic xxx" series) on TV tonight (Monday) at 9pm EST on Destination America channel. That's channel 286 on DirecTV, 194 on Dish.
Looks like it will rerun on the same channel a few times over the next couple weeks. Better than looking at the snow outside, I hope.

RE: filter for for furnace?

I am almost certain your Suncruiser does not have furnace filters. Per your owners manual and sales brochure (both can be downloaded at Winnebago) you have standard RV propane furnace, which do not normally use filters and a ducted roof air conditioner. Your owners manual makes no mention of a filter or the need to change it, so I'm betting there isn't one.
As far as I know the only Winnebago models which had furnace filters where those with the Coleman heat pump system.
FYI, Suburban, who manufacturers a line of RV furnace filters, does NOT recommend added a filter to the system. Concerns about restricting the airflow etc. If you decide to do it, I'd suggest you research a bit (question asked before on many RV forums) and perhaps use only the most basic fiberglass type filter, not the high-efficiency cloth types. IMHO.

RE: UNDERCOVER BOSS (KOA CEO)

I watched it because it was RV-related, but rarely do I watch the show anymore.
The first episode (I believe it was "Waste Management" trash company) was good... the CEO went out for a week, learned some things, came back and said what he was going to do change policies to improve the business and increase customer satisfaction. Exactly what the premise was... bosses learning what goes on in the trenches and making the company better.
It's turned into a daytime game show where the contestant/employee with the sappiest story gets rewarded... bleh.
