RE: Towing a jeep on a trailer behind truck with 9.5' Apex

I have two jeeps now, to DW's dismay, an 85 CJ and a 06 Wrangler and flat tow both. I use the Torklist system on the truck and aftermarkets tow bars on both. Going that route adds no wieght to the truck and is much easier to park and use (since you are close/over you GVWCR get a braking system). Pulling a trailer would be very time consuming just to load and unload; not to mention the extra registration and maintences costs. My odemeter doesnt register miles when I tow so you don't have to worry about that for resale value but keep minde because your shocks and tires will have the mileage on them.

RE: Salt Creek Rec Area, WA

TC life: you called it; I left that store with two hats for my girls Jamminalng: you were right; i think I went into every damn store in that town One cool place we found was up Icicle Rd, about 7 miles, was a great, and free, sledding hill. It was about a 500M run and wore the kids out. I had a blast also One day I will take the time and figure out how to post pictures. Our TC has been from here to Key West and back so I do have a few.

RE: Salt Creek Rec Area, WA

DW and daughters have changed their minds (big suprise!). We are heading to Leavenworth, WA for the weekend in the TC. At least there is quality beer to be had there. Plan on staying at Pine Village.

RE: Wolf Creek 850 or Lance 830/tent?

I have two small kids (4 and 7) and we love the tent option. It is a great place for them to sleep, and play during bad weather, which opens up the floor for the adults. The tent is just like everything else, take care of it and it will last. I have put my tent up wet more than once (we live in the pacific nw where rain is always factor) and the next dry day we have I open it up and let it dry. Twice a year I wash with mild soap and water. We winter camp a lot and the cold is not a concern. We have a simple solution; if it is cold we don't open up the tent. We also have the bunk over dinette which helps with the sleeping arrangements if we don't put out the tent. The tent is the best option we chose for our family.

Salt Creek Rec Area, WA

We were looking for place near by to head this sat - mon and came across Salt Creek near Port Angeles. Has anyone been there before and thoughts? One concern is they only take reservations by mail (real mail, not email) or in person. Obviously I am not driving 3 hours to make a reservation and it is to late for mail. If anyone has been there before do you think I will have any problems about getting spot? I will have my 7 and 4 year old girls with me so I will have to keep them entertained but figured tidal pools and ocean will help with that.

RE: 2013 gatherings/rallies im hosting

DW, and kids, inform me we will be at Leavenworth gathering. We had a great time there two weeks ago in the TC. We will try for the MT one but it depends if I will be back from CA by then or not

RE: Weekend Snow Camping (Photos)

About chains; I think I need to buy some!. Since I had 4WD, and Alaska license plates, the cops let me through after some BS and playing stupid! But I was surprised they had a trooper check folks heading up the pass for chains and/or 4WD. I have some great pictures and one day I will learn to post them. Wife and kids love snowmobiling but we only play on them at my parents house in AK. We just moved to WA last year and are still getting a feel for the area. DW and kids now want to make Leavenworth in Dec an annual affair. I was happy drinking my way thru town. Thanks again for the tips on that place.

RE: Weekend Snow Camping (Photos)

Thanks for the tip. We just got back. 18" of snow last night and the kids ( and I) built two snow forts this morning. Due to blizzard conditions driving over Stevens Pass was exciting this evening to say the least.

RE: Weekend Snow Camping (Photos)

Matt: I guess we will just show up and take our chances. Am I going to have to worry about digging out the site (ie. should I bring a snow shovel)? I am going to bring plenty of firewood, and adult beverages, should anyone else's wife decide to drag them up there this weekend. I will be the guy chasing a 7 and 4 year old girls around the campground and Leavenworth.

RE: Weekend Snow Camping (Photos)

Matt: After showing my wife your little post, and her always wanting to go to Leavenworth during Christmas, I just took Monday (17 Dec) off and will be heading up there with the camper this weekend (Sat - Mon). I tried calling and e-mailing the KOA with no response. Did you make a reservation or just show up? The only thing I need is a 30 AMP plug did you at least have that? A shower would be a bonus but not required. Any other details you want to provide will be appreciated. Ron: I think you need to show up this weekend and we can retrace your steps from the eventful evening listed above (minus the jail portion).

RE: Weekend Snow Camping (Photos)

Guess I need to look into it. Wife and kids are bugging me to go there during the holidays. Thanks for the post and info. I can assume the koa is open year round?

RE: Sol Duc Hot Spings, WA

Got it RichieC; I will go to Salt Creek and tell EVERYONE about it. Granted I am going look it up right after this since I haven't heard about it. Or you could be a helpful soul and tell a WA transplant all the new and exciting spots I should visit! At least you have Jeep also so you can't be that bad. Boatycall; when I arrived Sat night over 1/2 of the sites empty. We had a nice spot with no neighbors. The host told me that it was first come, first serve so we may be talking about different locations. $14 per night and a 10 min walk to the springs. There another rv park closer, run also by the park service, with E/W for $36 per night but it was not a place I would camp. That one requires reservations.

RE: Sol Duc Hot Spings, WA

RichieC, Found the "spot" you were talking about but there was already a few people there. The NP had plenty of open spots and we stayed there. Good trip and kids enjoyed the pools. - Eric

Sol Duc Hot Spings, WA

We moved to WA almost a year ago and are loving the area. This weekend the kids (and myself!) want to go check out Sol Duc hot springs on the north end of Olympic NP. Has anyone been there before and what are the odds I am going to get a campsite it I arrive around 2 PM? I can't get there any earlier since one of my daughters has a soccer game in the morning. I would rather stay in the NP then a RV Park.
