RE: lights onbattery not working???

Check if the bulbs in the fixtures are 12volts or 120 volts. It's possible that not all the fixtures are set up to be ran off of 12 volts.

RE: 110 genny out to 110 rv recepticle

When I had my 32'TT I ran exterior romex from the rear of the TT next to the outlet box to the front of the TT, using tie raps and other things to secure the wire. then when I wanted to power up the TT from the PU bed all I needed was a short wire to attach to the TT then I plugged my TT cord into the female end of the romex. It worked well until I sold the TT.

RE: HP Mini Netbook or Acer Aspire One

I went with the Acer Aspire One. It came with 1 gig Ram and 160 Gig HD. It also came with a battery that will give me up to 5.5 hours of operation without charging it. The battery was a deal maker for me because the Hp's battery would only do 2.5 hours before it went dead. I just wish I had a remote DVD drive that didn't need 120volts of power. It would be nice to have a DVD unit that ran off of the USB port. The 10.5 inch screen is pretty good but to view photos I hook it to my 48" LCD unit at home. I also use my Acer as a GPS unit, I bought Streets and Trips with the GPS sensor. It can locate almost every dirt road when I'm 4X4en.

RE: new system on forum

Am I missing something? I have no problem with the system as it is. When I get to the bottom of the page I still have the box to get me to the next page. Is it a problem with your computer? I am confused for some reason, will someone explain it better? Thanks

RE: Tow bars vs Tow Dolly

I had no problem figuring out which one to use. I found a neighbor who was selling his MH and I bought his Brake Buddy and Blue Ox Tow bar for $300. and I made my own baseplate for next to nothing. Much cheaper than a Tow dolly.

RE: Weld or Bolt Fifth Wheel Brackets?

I would bolt on but I would also have the brackets spot welded. A small spot weld will keep the brackets from starting to move. Every so often you can get slight movement on the brackets no matter how tight the bolts are.

RE: How to break-in and hotwire a motorhome...

I keep a spare door key for my MH on the key ring for my toad. The keys for the MH are in the MH someplace. There is also a key for the toad attached to the MH keys.

RE: gray water handle

When the handle on mine broke I went to Lowes and bought the round handles that are used on yard faucets. I used a 1/4 inch nut on the botton and top of the handle. The metal handles last a lot longer than the junky plastic ones and you can buy some that are slightly smaller. Sometimes a smaller handle keeps you from busting your knuckles when opening the dump valve.

RE: Brake Question?

Don't know what year your 5er is, but when I had my 1995 TT I had the same problem and found out that there was a problem with some springs coming off or breaking. I had to upgrade all my brake springs. If I had it to do all over again I would replace the entire units as you are looking at doing.

RE: To all members of RV.net

Times are tough, but we will still enjoy this forum. I just hope that at least most of the ads will be aimed at us RV'ers. Thanks for being the medium for all of us to get together on.

RE: winterizing keeping the valves open

Not only could you get pests in your fresh water system with the drain valves open but you will also get dust and who knows what else. Mine will be closed when I finally drain my systems.

RE: Notebook processor question

My netbook with the atom has a extended service battery that will last 5.5 hours before needing a charge. Got it at Fry's electronics for $269.00. It has 1 Gig ram and a 160 gig hard drive. It is only slightly slower than my full size laptop. the only drawback is that the keyboard is somewhat smaller than the full size laptop and kind of hard to get used to. Netbooks usually don't have disk drives, if you want one you can buy a USB diskdrive that will work well.

RE: Cracked Frame

I had a 32'Tahoe TT and the frame cracked above the axels. I noticed the cracks when the TT was 3 years old. The dealer told me that it's my problem. I contacted Trailer Life's Action Line. They made some contacts and Tahoe called me and told me who made the frame and where they were located. I called the frame manufacturer and they set up a appointment for me to take the TT in and they would repair it while I waited. I left the TT there and went shopping with the DW for about 4 hours. They welded the cracks and fishplated the frame. It was a lot stronger when they finished. The owner of the frame company came out and talked to me. He said that the frame was not part of the TT warranty, it was separate and he expects the frame to outlive the TT. He also said if I had any other problems with the frame I should call him direct and they would fix the frame, no cost to me, for as long as I had the TT. Good Luck with the repairs.

RE: Is everything behind the drivers seat a vehicle or a home?

Here in California anything behind the drivers seat is considered your HOME. That's why your passengers sitting at the table can drink alcohol and you can have open containers in the MH and not get busted for it. As long as the open containers are not in reach of the driver, same with a firearm.

RE: Steer safe install and test drive, results

Sounds like we have the same unit. I have the Steer safe on mine already and it still wandered. I took the unit to a good Alignment shopand paid $75.00 to get a alignment. No more wandering, it was mostly the alignment. Good luck.

RE: Have U pulled in slides to protect toppers from wind?

Yes. While coming home down the 14 freeway north of Mojave the wind got so bad that the semi trucks were getting blown over. I parked and had to keep the slide in to minimize the rocking even though I had the stabilizers deployed. when I tried to open the slide the cover was making a racket.

RE: More land grabs

I have seen the endless miles of trails that the government has closed in the Mojave desert. Doesn't make any sense. If you think they are saving it for our grandchildren, guess again. They will not be able to see it or use it either.
