RE: Campground Owner WiFi challenges

I became fed up with this problem during my summer trip to michigan and wisconsin. Even if you could get a useable connection you usually had to go to the laundry or game rooom to get service. One place the operator became really irate about my posting to my blog, another place had tengo ,but it was so weak as to be unuseable. My feelings are that if an operator is going to offer internet service he should get a useable service, and charge a small fee to cover the cost , if they cant afford it.
personally i went to verizon and bought an mif2200 card with 5gb per month.. so far it has worked wonders. next move is to get a wilson antenna. as this is a big amount of gb i was able to use it at home in place of my roadrunner. (yes it seems to be as fast as rr).

RE: our latest modification (daybed & table and chairs)

I did somewhat the same thing. i had about the same arrangement as you, but reversed. i took out the sleeper bed, (had never been slept on) out and sold that sucker on craigs list in about one hour. i had a recliner tha was fairly small, so i put it in place of one of the chairs that i had in the rear and put that side chair in the space where the sofa was.. i am in the process of building a small computer table to put in part of the space. then Since i travel alone , I am going to take out the bench seats and table and get two chairs and a smaller table to eat on. Much roomier arrangement.

RE: Verizon Air Card

I just got a verizon m1f2200 card about three weeks ago. I am using it just about the way you use yours. i have kept a log and most days i use about 20mg. It would be hard to use 5gb in a month. i would suggest the mfi22oo card instead of the air card because you can use up to five computers on it and it comes with a usb port cable that is easy to use.
i have a tower at home that i connect with the usb cable and two laptops that i use with wifi cards. it seems to be a little faster than my old roadrunner.

RE: Corpus or Rockport TX rv parks?

you might think about going further south. One good blue norther would ruin a good camping trip, maybe near Brownsville.
otdherhand i do love rockport, family used to spend a lot of vacation time there when we lived in texas. Learned to water ski there.

RE: Changing a flat

I have a 295 keystone ans use two items to change 1: I bought a two stage leveling block from camping world. this will almost raise up enough then I use a bottle jack under the axle beteween the spring bolts. This way trailer will not fall completely even if bottle jack slips. Be sure to have a torque wrench with you to tighten the nuts to the correct tightness. It also makes a good tool to loosen the nuts. many times if you have had a shop change a tire or work on wheels they will use an air wrench and the nuts are the devil to get loose. loosen before jacking too high. also carry tdwo short length of 4x4 and acouple of 1 in. boards to make jack high enough to raise axle if needed

I stayed at koa in rapid city this summer. found it to be convenient to restaurants, walmart, and other things. It only took about 30 min to get to mt. rushmore and crazy horse.Besides it had full hookups that a lot of the parks nearer to mt. rushmore didnt have.
in addition be sure to see the mamoth remains site. very interesting.
custer park wild life trail. norbeck overlook on needles road very interesting. see the mt rushmore night time show if you can.

RE: Help me replace my roof vent please?

I had disintergrating vent covers also. just took off the old cover and put the new one on the existing frame. Bought covers that are not supposed to disintergrate at local rv dealer. cost about 19.99 I think, but worth it.

RE: Solution for a hot trailer when you stop for lunch?

i stop for lunch, breaks etc at roadside rest stops. i have never had the
trailer get too hot. I usually just open the door and close the screen, if its really warm i may open a roof vent. traveled all over south and midwest no big deal.

RE: help for 2010 summer trip..Fl & Ga.

Atlanta has a few campgrounds, the one you will probably like is stone mountain. If you get a chance go up to lake lanier, its a great place. comming down I-95 plan to stay in Savannah for several days , theres a lot to do and see here. Several nice campgrounds in the area. We stayed at savannah oaks, but there are several nice ones. if you are comming that far north, I would suggest that you might go to Charleston, its a very charming city and stay at the campground at james Island county park. Go thru Beaufort on the way to Savannah and see the river area, its where part of Forrest Gump was filmed, and a historical town. Ond the way down to florida, stop at Brunswick and see Sea island and Jekyll island. Interesting to see Amelia Island in Florida also. If you never have been St Augustine is a good stop. There are many places along this part of Georgia. I havent mentioned hilton head island, but its almost a must see.

RE: Mount Rushmore in second week of September.

one thing forgot to add, see the dinosar monument, where they have 59 skeletons. neat place. Also someone mentioned buffalo. Custer state park has 500 in their herd. when I was therte they were right beside the car. neat. Also take the needles highway if you have acar, but not rv. its a great trip. One other place that I saw that will have you say "OH MY GOD" when you see it is the norbeck overlook. climb up on the rock formation , you can see Mt. rushmore , a huge valley, and mountains the other directions as far as you can see. i thought it was as impressive as grand canyon.

RE: Mount Rushmore in second week of September.

Just got back last week from a week in the area. i stayed at the koa in Rapid city. Reason it was handy to buy food , restaurants and only about 20 minutes from Mt. Rushmore. i agree see custer state park, crazy horse, bad lands and all that. Check if they are still having the night programs at Mr. Rushmore, thats one of the best parts. Also koa will not be closing that early in the year. I got reservations late july with about two days notice. Nice campground and people. Most of the campgrounds that i saw down near Mt. Rushmore were kind of isolated and didnt have sewer service. But its your choice. Enjoy all of it, its one of the best places i've seen in the USA.

RE: tow question

I HAVE AN EXPY THAT i PULL MY 295 KEYSTONE with. I have pulled it through the Prnsylvania mountains up to Niagara falls and thru the smokies several times the latest straight thru west virginia. Only comment, the person who takes care of my transmission questions told me to pull with the overdrive off unless i was in very flat land. He said that the gas difference was very small. he so far has been correct. Two items, an unexpected\ bonus when the od is off going down a hill if the cruise control is on, you will not dneed as much brakes. Mine almost never requires braking. The other thing is dont get in toobig a hurry. You should get a trammy temp guage installed to keep track of it. If it gets too hot, stop and rest a while. I have never had to dod that, but I dint drive over 60.
There will be some down shifting on the steep hills, but it should be ok.

RE: Elkhart Indiana trip

I was in the area in early June and stayed at the elkhart/middlebury exit koa. In fack i left my trailer there and came home to take care of some doctors appointmnts. on my way back next sunday I did the jayco tour. it was good. also toured the keystone cougar line. liked it very much got to be up and personal with the line while it was working.
do the shipshewana thing on wednesday. There is a nice restaurant just outside of Middlebury called der dutchman essenhaus its a big resort on route 20 just outside middlebury. food was good and service was excellent. Also are at a good restrauant in a little town just west of the koa called riverview restaurant. nice view of the st marys river and good food.
This koa was very good to me and not all that expensive. had good wifi and it was handy to a lot of manufacturers. There is plenty of lierature around about amish restorations and towns that you can visit. they are very interesting. I kept a blog of my time there at http://my-travels-exboater.blogspot.com
There is plenty to see and do. By all means go to south bend and visit notre dame. It is very interesting. I was there two days before obama gave the graduation speech, and got to see the demonstrations that you saw on tv.

RE: washington dc

echo the person who said to use the metro. its great and you can get a day pass . do not try to take a car into downtown dc. not worth the hastle. metro is too easy and it goes everywhere. i would try to focus on the mall area with only three days. one museum that is not mentioned to often is the psot office museum. Its worth the time and the kids should like it.
