RE: Spotless Wash

Thanks to all for the responses. Lots of good suggestions.

Spotless Wash

I am looking for a good concentrated wash and wax product to wash my RV with. I am specifically looking for one that doesn't leave spots when it drys. I used to have a product with this feature but when it got used up and the container thrown away I then couldn't remember its name. I have tried many that claim to not leave spots, including Turtle Wax's 2 products, Most just don't live up to the claim. Any suggestions on what cleans an RV w/out leaving spots?

RE: Allison Transmission

Thanks to all for the comments and the link Diplomat Don sent me. Have talked with 2 different Allison authorized dealers and learned that the an internal filter should have been changed at 5,000 miles. Since that should be done by a trained mechanic, I'm going to have the dealer do the internal filter(s), the screw on filter and fluid change, bite the bullet, pay the money and have peace of mind that the job was done right. Thanks again.

RE: Allison Transmission

RedG I don't think the previous owner ever changed the filter at 5,000. Now at 20,000 do you think it's best to change the fluid and filter asap? Also, since it is only 20,000 miles will I only need it drained and refilled versus flushing?

Allison Transmission

I have an Allison Tranny in my 32 foot Southwind. It has 20,000 miles on it and am thinking about having the fluid and filter changed when I have my engine oil & filter changed. My question is can just about any mechanic do the tranny part or should I take it an authorized Allison dealer? Thanks.

Inflatable Mattress

Am looking to replace an original equipment mattress in my sofa-pullout with a good quality inflatable mattress that inflates and deflates with a motor. Don't want foam or pillowtops; only an inflatable. Will appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

RE: Gas Station between San Luis Obispo and Salinas

Thanks for the quick response. Just what I needed. Not to hijack my own post but I notice that you tow a Ford Edge behind yr Southwind. Does it tow 4 down w/out any modifications? Thanks.

Gas Station between San Luis Obispo and Salinas

I will be travelling North on HWy 101 between San Luis Obispo and Salinas on Hwy 101 and am looking for an easy in and out gas station. My RV and toad are 54 feet long and so the typical gas station is not very accommodating. Unfortunately there are no Pilots/Flying Js with RV lanes along this route. If anyone has suggestions please let me know. I will need gasoline not diesel. Thanks.

RE: Water Pump Surging

I found the problem once I got home. At least I think so. I don't have a switchover valve as suggested but the threaded female input that the city water hose screws into has a spring-nipple. I connected a hose up, ran some water and then disconnected it. Think this process jiggled the nipple back out because now when I leave the pump on there is no surging whatsoever. So I'm going to replace this water hose entry fitting to keep it from happening again. Thanks to all who offered help.

RE: Water Pump Surging

Thanks Tony Lee but not sure what a tank fill valve is. One other thing on my situation. I am at a campground WITHOUT direct water connections. I'm getting water from my tank.

RE: Water Pump Surging

Parkdep, just wondering if the pump is going bad, is a tank the answer to a bad pump? Just asking because this problem just started this week. Never had the "surge" before.

Water Pump Surging

When my water pump is on the pump surges every 20 seconds or so for about 1-2 seconds even though every faucet is off. I have checked all faucets, plumbing, etc inside and out and nothing is dripping anywhere. If the pump is surging, I'm guessing it is pumping small amounts of water somewhere. But where? One other point which may or may not contribute to this. I am now camping at an elevation of 5,500 feet. Could increased atmospheric pressure cause the pump surge?

RE: Do tow bars need to be replaced periodically?

This tow bar is fairly heavy so how do you send this back to Roadmaster? Does Roadmaster provide info on how to do it if you call their home office or is there something on the internet with instructions.

Do tow bars need to be replaced periodically?

I have a tow bar that has about 15,000-20,000 miles of towing on it. Do tow bars develop "fatigue" over time and do they need to be replaced even though externally they look ok with no visible cracks?

RE: Norcold Reefer stopped working

Tom and Adrian asked for an update a month ago so here it is. I asked the repair shop to order another recall box and he told me that Norcold was insisting on him seeing the reefer and perfoming a test before they would ship another fix. I took the MH in, left it with him and the next day he told me it was fixed. Apparently their is a programming or rewiring or adjusting process that he did and it worked without having to send a new black box. Sorry I can't explain what he did more clearly but at least I know that he fixed the black box without replacing it. I asked him if this was something I could do if the unit went out again and he said no. However he did say that in an emergency and to avoid losing the contents of the reefer and freezer when it quits working again it should be OK to disconnect the black box and plug the power in directly BUT run it on electricity not gas. He believes that the flame is the issue in starting the fires that have been reported not the electricity from shore or generator.

New Brighton Stae Beach, Capitola, Ca

Wonering if New Brighton SP in Capitola has AT&T cell phone coverage. Has anybody experienced this campground with a AT&T cell phone?

RE: Norcold Reefer stopped working

Tom and Adrian it seems the fridge is the source of the problem (over heating/fire potential) but Norcold is giving us a poorly engineered "fix" in the recall box that keeps failing. This reefer needs more than the current recall box to convince me that Norcold is a responsible company. Anyway, we are still working with an Igloo cooler and will be home to get our second fix in 3 days. Will advise but my guess is they just pop in another recall box and send me on my way.

RE: What is WRONG with Norcold???

Had the recall on my 1200. The dealer got it done quickly. No problem there. But I am irritated that that now that my recall went out a few days ago, needs a new recall and I lost food and had to buy an Igloo cooler (of all things in a motor home) just because Norcold's engineers aren't smart enough to fix the problem permanently. Here's my deal. My dealer will get me the fix, I'll suck up the loss of food, etc and keep the memory of the terrible inconvenience. However, if the second recall goes out, the hell with Norcold in future reefers and I might even consider a class action lawsuit against this irresponsible company.
