RE: Add songs to iPod without using iTunes?

I have all my music ripped to my computer. I think you need iTunes to at least enable the disk drive mode. I think you could then load music just from the computer but you probably won't get playlists. Now I have not tried this myself as I have no issue using iTunes. And like said before, iTunes will recognize any mp3s.

RE: water heater won't light when raining or damp

Bad igniter board from your description. It could also be a cracked porcelain on the igniter electrode itself too. It sounds like the board is creating a spark, possibly to ground.

RE: Omaha, NE...things to do

I've been to the Henry Doorly Zoo and it is pretty nice. I also think the Strategic Air Command has a museum in the area. Haven't been there yet but want to go.

RE: Using a UPS with DirecTv DVR R-22

I have UPS on both my Directv receivers at home for those occasions when the power goes out momentarily. It has helped immensely keeping the receivers from rebooting.

RE: Rockwood Fifth Wheels

We had a Rockwood fifth wheel for 7 years without any major issues. We traded just because we wanted larger tanks for boondocking.

RE: Using "maneuvering" position on slider

I have been making sure I am on a level surface when I do this but this is my procedure. If I am in towing position I move the handle to un lock,,apply my trailer brakes only,,,,slowly pull the truck forward till the hitch travels to the rear of the rails,,,apply the e-brake on the truck. Move the handle to maneuver. Everything goes the same when switching into haul. I always double check that the handle is fully locked into either tow, or the maneuver position before proceeding. If I am ever in doubt I do a trailer brake pull test to make sure the hitch does not slide on me. Hope this helps. X2

RE: Use of Generators to run Air Conditioners when camping

I am one camper that is disgusted by the increased use of generators while dry camping. More than once, generator noise throughout the campground has damped our enjoyment of the outdoors. I also feel that just because the campground "rules" allow them, it doesn't stop me from getting upset. When I see the generator posts regarding "the best", and that sort of thing, I force myself to keep my mouth shut regarding the noise and inconsideration associated with it. I don't feel it's appropriate to chime in about the noise levels, unless it is asked. But this post is the perfect opportunity to chime in. The only difference with me is that I don't have a generator at all and while in conserve mode, we can dry camp for up to 5 days. Many people nowadays, associate dry camping with the use of a generator, so they can make coffee in the morning and watch tv in the afternoon. Another direction we are headed that I'm not happy with. Yes, I have a generator that I take camping. That sain, my generator is sized to run my boiler and refrigerator in the event of a power outage. I have done lots to minimize the nerd to use it like all LEDs, removing fuses or adding switches to parasite loaders that are not needed. My generator runs just enough to keep my batteries charged as needed. Now, I was quite surprised with the number of open frame construction type generators in use on our recent trip to the Grand Canyon. When a generator on the next loop can drown out the noise from my inverter generator, that can be annoying.

RE: First mods to Wildcat

NICE job on that pin box. Had to enclose the one on last 5'vr to keep the wasps from setting up home. Haven't needed to on this 5'vr cause we travel FT and rig doesn't sit long enough for any 'home building' plus I store umbilical cord inside pin box. That's a good safe. Where you able to bolt it 'thru' the floor? As your signature says "You cannot make things idiot proof, you can only make them idiot resistant" So true....very true :B Yes, it is screwed to the floor. I ripped down some 2x4 and countersunk screws through them into the floor. Added plywood screwed to them and the safe is bolted through the plywood.

RE: Yamaha 2400isHC first thoughts

I am happy with mine too. We bought with the intention of using for both camping and running the fridge and boiler at the house in case of power outage. I have not tried running the AC on the fiver just because every place we camp does not allow running generators at night.

RE: What effect is Sequestration having on the parks?

Since this is an RV forum we probably all have campers of some sort and we share a common interest, but really, should all those millions of people who don't use park service campgrounds be subsidizing our vacation. Should the people who never get to visit a national park have to pay for an interpretive ranger to tell us what kind of fish are in the river? How about boat ramps? Shouldn't the folks who use boats pay for them? Senior passes...Do the taxpayers owe me anything just because I managed to live this long? Someone mentioned they would rather pay less at the government campground than stay at the KOA down the road. How about that KOA? Shouldn't they be able to operate without competing with taxpayer funded parks charging less than operational cost. What if the government ran hardware stores and gas stations ? I don't fly yet my taxes support safe flight, I don't have children but my tax money goes towards schools.

RE: What effect is Sequestration having on the parks?

One of my favorite NP CGs is closed. It's only 25 miles from home, and with my senior pass it cost me $8 a day to camp there. But not this summer. And there you have it. $8 does not cover the cost On another forum I frequent they were complaining that the senior pass cost is going to increase from $10 to $20 for the rest of their lives and how this was hitting those that have already paid their way. I still think a parks pass for $20 for the rest of you life is a bargain. I am disabled and have the disabled pass, but still buy the regular pass and pay full fees because I can still afford it. I don't mind paying because we enjoy the national park system and use it whenever we have the opportunity. I like my $20 or $30 dollar camping site much better than the $40 KOA. Of course this is just my preference.
