RE: Spend The Summer In Alaska

Grant & Debbi, Think we saw this last year and thought it sounded interesting but were committed. Still sounds interesting this year but are again committed (to same place as last year - hatchery in Idaho). I think we will hold off on committing next year to see if this comes up - too interesting to ignore thrice.

RE: Where are you working/volunteering this summer?

We will be going back to Hagerman National Fish Hatchery in Idaho for the second summer in a row but we will be arriving a month later than last year (and a month later than they would like us)due to our committment to Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Arizona, where we are having a grand time (except for the snow!).

RE: Workamp in tent or class B?

We are staffed this year, but next? I'd like to see your resume. PM Please? Max I will when I put it together. I'm planning for a start date anytime between 9/1-10/31 and going through the winter. I don't think SD is the spot for winter hosting in a tent:E

RE: Park Host needed

As I understand it summer positions in Florida are rather easy to come by, but winter is another story

RE: Volunteer needed, Whitefish, MT

What type of duties would be involved. Always nice to hear from someone that has or is there

RE: Rose Parade Float Volunteer?

We were in So.cal many years ago. Maybe 1984+- and we're staying in a motel near Passdena. Just there on vacation for the holidays. We were watching television with our two young kids and saw a report that because of the unusually cold weather they were having problems getting enough volunteers to make the floats. We decided to drive over and see if we oils help. They were more than happy for the help and we worked many hours putting flowers on floats. One of our floats won some award! We watched the parade on tv in the motel room.

RE: Summer Job Orlando

You might have trouble finding a place to stay in ND. Getting employment does not seem to be a problem.

RE: Workcampers pay

I would assume that is 250-300 per couple, right? And 40 hours each or combined? Thanks for listing this. Sounds interesting.

RE: Onan 7.5 generator has no power. Help

Update: found 3 fuses under small hatch under control board. One was blown. Replaced it and the generator is running again. I had made an appointment tomorrow at a Cummins dealer but I think I'll cancel??I think they would have charged more than the. $2.30 the fuse cost??.

Onan 7.5 generator has no power. Help

My generator (QD Onan 7.5) displays no power . There is 12 volts to it in the back but it acts like it is totally dead. No status lights, no sign of life whatsoever. Was running fine just before this happened. If someone doesn't come up with a soln soon looks like ill have bite the bullet and have the pros take a look. But all I can see Is $! I have an extended waranty that might help but...? I am near Las Vegas and need a place to go. I am thinking about either Rocky Mountain Cummins or Johnny Walker RV. Anybody know anything about them?

RE: SnowBird WorKamper possibility

I had a few campground owners offer a little extra incentive to get workers to take on the less desirable duties. Could you expand on this statement a little without naming any names?

RE: Is that all there is????

RoadXYZ, Thanks for coming back with the report like you said you would. Sounds like you are going to have a good time there. We are finishing up 6 months at Hagerman National Hatchery in Southern Idaho and we visited Deer Flat (as a possible future position)during our stay here and visited with the previous volunteers Frank and Linda. They seemed to like the position and intended to return next year. I think that says a lot about the position. The staff there was very friendly and we enjoyed our visit. The unusual fire activity in Idaho this year created some smoke problems in the area but it was clear and beautiful (if a little windy) when we were there. If you get a chance, visit the Sawtooth area (if its still there:E) and RedFish Lake in particular. Its wonderful and only a couple of hours away but a world of difference. Its sort of an old fashioned, undeveloped Mccall. BTW do not speed in Meridian, our son is an LEO there! We were headed for Pahranagot WLR in Nevada the end of this month but just got a call from them asking if we would consider going to Moapa Valley instead. Since it is 30 minutes closer to Las Vegas (where some of our grandkids are)and possibly a little warmer than Pahranagot we accepted the switch. Enjoy Idaho.

We will be at our present USF&W post (Hagerman Hatchery) until last week of Sep. Then a little travel to medical appts and then start 3 month gig at Pahranagat NWR (USF&W) in Neveada followed by 4 months at Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Arizona. Then ?.
