RE: Greasing Axle bearings

what i ended up doing was taking everything apart, doing a visual inspection, and packing the bearings.
Once everything was back together, I put the grease gun on the zerk fittings and filled until grease started oozing out around the nut and retainer. I did this before reading in my other post that it is probably not necessary and could even be detrimental if the axel seal doesn't hold - hopefully that won't be the case and these darn ez-lube axles will work as advertised.

RE: Axle spindle - I suspect this is not a good thing...

Your response it too funny! :B
You made me laugh out loud.
Thanks!
Bill
I do what I can. :)
Got both sides of the axle done. It has the ez lube axle, so I think I am going to put a grease gun on the fitting just to make sure she is full of grease.
Thanks all for the help.

Great, thanks guys. First time I've done this and the trailer is only 2 years old. When I saw it, I was thinking awwwww F#$@
You've made my day. Thanks.

Axle spindle - I suspect this is not a good thing...

Hi all,
Pulled the axle bearing apart this morning and cleaned the grease off of the spindle. This is what the spindle looks like, I'm guessing this is not normal?
There was plenty of grease in the bearings and on the spindle.
What do you think?

RE: Greasing Axle bearings

Yep, I've got brakes. I guess I'll take things apart tomorrow. I trust things should come apart the same way even with the zerk fitting?

Greasing Axle bearings

Hi all,
Question about greasing axle bearings.
The axle on my 2 year old jayco tent trailer has grease nipple under the dust cap. Is it sufficient to just use a grease gun on the nipple? Or do I still need to take things apart and grease the bearings manually?
If I had to guess I have about 3,500km on it.
Thanks.
