RE: Just Curious - how many retired emergency services
Congratulations, and thank you all for serving your Country and Citizens, thanks for rescuing us, protecting us, being there when we needed you, standing beside us Americans (Canadians, too!), keeping us from killing ourselves and others, and to my fellow LEO's and Fire Folks...and Soldier Hero's...really nice to hear about all of you, proud and glad you're all here!
I had no idea I shared this forum for 6 years with so many brothers and sisters! God Bless!

RE: Survet of Safe and Unsafe States in Mexico
The BBC did an article on this. Juarez is the worse place to visit, despite the many soldiers, and 2000 persons died just in this area in the past 14 months. Chihuahua tops the list for the most dangerous state for Journalists! Tijuana is high on the list, as it is a border town area as well.
New Orleans and Baltimore are actually on some "10 most dangerous cities" lists too!
H1N1-If you saw what I see daily, you'd be really careful!
Get a H1N1 Flu shot! Go online and find out where clinics and Hospitals are giving them near you.
I'm retired, but I currently do volunteer work at a major Southern California Medical Center Trauma Hospital...this flu stuff is SERIOUS!
Recently a Medical Show video taped a conference of 700 Doctors from around the USA regarding the H1N1 flu, and when they taught and warned the Doctors about face touching, they reported that of the 700 Doctors at the Conference, over half during the training had touched their faces, mouth or noses while sitting there. Break every habit you may have as far as touching your face, scratching your nose, picking your teeth, licking your fingers after eating a gooey food item, rubbing or picking your nose....don't touch your face! This is the #1 way this flu spreads. Droplets from direct contact with an infected persons sneeze is #2. Avoid close contact to other people when possible, in crowded situations. When you or anyone around you should sneeze, the mantra should be "sneeze into your sleeve...not your hand". If someone in the Hospital openly sneezes, several others will remind them to cover it up! Loudly! :E
Wash your hands frequently, hot water and soap, sing the "Happy Birthday" song (hopefully silently) 2 times while washing. Use the Antiseptic Hand gel if hand washing not available. Use the hand gel after using public facilities, shopping carts, door handles, etc.
Stay healthy, eat right, get a good sleep at night, fresh air. Try to avoid, if possible Doctor Office or Hospital visits. When in public, feel free to wear a hospital type mask, you may feel silly or conspicuous, but if you have pre-existing health issues, do it!
Overweight (morbidly obese)people be especially careful. These are the folks that are dying, some in their 30's. 35% of the persons that have to be Hospitalized with "Swine Flu" H1N1 have asthma. And if you are an older adult, get a Pneumonia Vaccination as well. Safe and it covers you for up to 20 different types of Pneumonia. And 1 out of 20 persons who contract Pneumonia WITH the flue die! The flu will weaken your defence system and things such as Pneumonia and Congestive Heart Failure will be what actually put you into a grave.
Please be careful and you won't have to worry about it! God Bless!
:C
RE: confused
Look at Jayco...they only make Jayco's! That's all they've made for 41 years, same family owned business, 600,000 RV's made so far.
Same great family values, same motto..."We treat our customers like family!" Same philosophy that if they treat you right you'll buy from them again. And you will!
And they still make all their furniture, mattresses, build all their own cabinets out of real wood...screwed and stile construction like fine furniture...not glued or stabled and no wafer wood or particle board! The doors and drawers from real oak...made in their own woodmill by Amish cabinet makers, some employees are 2nd and 3rd generation Jayco workers, that have been there 30 years and more. 2 year warranty, great dealerships, high quality and terrific craftsmanship. We've had 7 so far, and not a drop of "lemon juice" in any of them!
Good luck!

RE: Exhaust brakes need for 2006 F-350?
Tow haul does it all...just tap the brake or give 'em a firm push, and the engine management system goes to work controlling engine and transmission for the optimum descent or ascent. No jake brake needed!
Here’s a run down on Ford’s “Tow/Haul” mode when engaged:
• Raises the shift point RPMs and internal trans shift pressures for a given
engine load
* Maintains the ability to engage overdrive gear, but eliminates
the possibility of engine lugging
* Controls shifting frequency to avoid shift hunting and
unnecessary torque converter cycling
• Engages the “coast clutch” and uses other internal trans clutch/band
application strategies in order to achieve engine braking through all gears as
the transmission coasts down.

RE: Just Curious - how many retired emergency services
I was the School Safety Monitor in 7th and 8th grade school, and we stopped traffic while other kids crossed the street when school let out at night. I started working at a Police Station when I was 15 as a Police Explorer Scout, riding along and helping at the Police Station. When I was 17 I was sworn in as my City's first Police Cadet. When I was 20 I was sent to the Police academy and was a LEO of 30 years before retiring 5 years ago. So in some form or another I worked in Law Enforcement for most of my 55 years. Yikes! ;)
Wouldn't have changed a single thing, I loved every moment of every day..helped countless people, changed hundreds of lives, brought 3 babies (not my own..I let a Doctor do that!) into the world with my own hands...2 in the back seat of my Police car! I held dying people in my arms, comforted families, gave people the worse possible, most dreaded news, arrested many, many bad guys, mentored many more good guys, gave back to the community, cried with anguished families, laughed at the human drama and in the end, I was just another player on the big stage of life!
On the fun side I got to drive really, really fast with my red lights and siren on! :B
RE: Safest 2010 vehicles according to the IIHS
Some others not mentioned....2010 Ford Mustang (And the Ford Mustang Convertible was the 1st ever convertible to get a 5 Star Rating!), Ford Escape, Ford Expedition, Ford Explorer, Honda Fit, Buick LaCross, Kia Soul, Ford F-150, Ford Flex, '09 Dodge Challenger, 2010 Toyota Tundra, 2010 Subaru Legacy, Honda Pilot, VW Tiguan, Mazda3, Audi A4 per the brand new for 2010, tougher NHTSA 5 Star Crash Ratings. Some of the Fords and other 2010 cars have not yet been crash tested by the NHTSA. Kudos to the car manufacturers nailing the safety issues on these cars and more not listed...the kind of car you'd want your family to drive!
RE: Can a Highlander pull a folding trailer?
Your SUV is rated to tow 3000 lbs with the tow package. A little Coleman Destiny Series Sodona Pop-Up weighs around 2200 lbs loaded for camping...ideal for what you are looking for. For it's size and ammenities, and comfort and quality you can't beat it! Get it with the optional furnace and dual propane tanks and you're good to go. A Reese weight distribution dual cam hitch would be best.
Coleman
And even lighter are the Quicksilver camping trailers, ultralight all aluminum construction.
And make sure to look at these Hi-Lo Mojo and these other ultra lightweight trailers!
Good luck!

Stater Brothers still have old fashioned butcher shop ammenities such as real live butchers that will cheerfully do it for ya! And WalMart has the Whole Boneless frozen Honeysuckle Turkeys as well...supposedly!

RE: Buying a new tow vehicle....kinda.
I am deleriousily estatic that the American Pony Car is still alive and well! Kudos to Ford for the new Mustang GT, Chevy for the new Camero SS and Dodge for the new Challenger SRT8! American Muscle Iron at it's very best...http://www.cool-smileys.com/images/280.gif
In case you didn't see them before... here's more info on the big 3 for us motorheads!
RE: Security lights
There are quite a few solar powered battery night lights or flood lights, including several excellant Westinghouse motion detection lights.
RE: Our new 2010 Roo 21SS is Home ***update***
Congratulations! Glad it's what you wanted and I know you'll love camp'n in it! You can contact the Hybrid Moderator LAdams and he will be able to resize your pic or direct you how to do so. Instructions are up above in the the blue bar "RVing FAQ" section.
The slideout braces help keep the slideout sealed tightly to the RV to prevent the intrusion of water and dirt while on the road, and secondarily keep the slide-out from deploying while being towed (unlikely!). Good luck!
RE: Rockwood 8287SS vs Jayco 305 BHS vs ZINGER 25 BH
All things being equal at this point, 4 to 5 years old, do some inspections for roof leaks, frame damage, slideout problems, solid floors, delamination and all appliances refrigerator, A/C, Furnace and fixtures working as they should...and if the previous owner showed obvious signs of caring and maintaining the RV...the Jayco of course! ;) Pick the one that makes you happy!
