RE: Our dog was attacked
Please know that you remain in our thoughts. I hope your dog makes a full recovery.
Did the campground you were staying have pet rules? Did it require ALL pets to remain on a leash? As others have said, the pet owner IS responsible for all bills. If they do not wish to pay, you can always go to small claims court. There, the judge may require them to pay a monetary cost for pain and suffering.
We wish you all the best!
RE: How do you know when ?
So sorry to hear about your loss. We are also schnauzer lovers and foster for an all schnauzer rescue organization based out of Birmingham, AL.
It'll take time to get over your loss. Did you have a Necropsy done to find out what happened to your little one?
There are several schnauzer rescues in Ohio. All you have to do is go to PetFinder.com and search for schnauzer and put in your zip code. There is Schnauzer Rescue of Cincinatti (sp?), Schnauzer Friends for Rescue and Adoption (aka SFRA).
Please accept of deepest sympathy.
RE: Constipation in dog
I swear by canned pumpkin. BUT, make sure it's 100% Pumpkin and NOT the pie filler. If I have a constapated dog, I give 2 table spoons every few minutes until they go. Once you get enough in them, it doesn't take long at all!
RE: Rescue Remedy and DAP Diffuser
In the motorhome, it's a different story. I think it's the relocation, kind of like moving every weekend - it makes her a nervous wreck . . . but she loves to camp :D
Try Walnut. It's a flower essence by Bach. It's for relocation.
Here is a link to different essences and what they are for. Bach Flower for Pets
Hope this helps!

RE: Rescue Remedy and DAP Diffuser
I used Rescue Remedy alot. Being involved with schnauzer rescue, I've given it to several of my foster dogs. Also, you might try Camls Forte. You can purchase it at your local pharmacy (Walgreens). It's in the sleep aid section. It's all natural and it helps calm them down.
Our Blue Heeler, Buckets, is terrified of storms. When a storm approaches, we give two droppers full of RR and 4 calms forte. Of course, she weight a bit more than your Chi. I'd give 1/2 dropper of RR and 1 calms forte.
If you want more advice, you can search Yahoo Groups for a Natural Chihuahua List. Hope this helps.

RE: This for people who's dog sleeps in their bed
My mini schnauzer sleeps with us, home and camping. If it's been raining, I just towel dry her and wipe her feet. I don't bathe her just to go to bed. When we return home, we take the sheets off the bed and put clean ones on.
But, baby wipes work very well. They are much cheaper than the "doggie wipes" but are basically the same.
RE: Not a pretty subject, but any insight would be appreciated
If the anal glands are expressed wrong, this can cause ALOT of problems. I don't express my dogs' and have been told that the more it's done, the more it needs to be done. If your dog is having this many problems, I would recommend having them removed. Yes, there could be complications, but there are with any surgery. Ask your vet how many times they have performed it and what the final outcome was.
If it were my dog, I'd think seriously of having them removed. But, then again, I wouldn't be giving my dog any NSAIDs (anti-inflammatory) either! JMHO!
Hope you find the right answer for you. Everyone has their own beliefs and ways of treatment.
RE: Is it July yet???
In June we are headed to Marietta, GA to Jim Miller Park. Our rescue (Schnauzer Love Rescue) is holding a fundraiser event, Schnauzer Stroll. It will be June 13th.
In July we are headed to Pigeon Forge, TN. Every year we go to the mountains for the Gatlinburg 4th of July parade. It's held at midnight July 3rd/July 4th.
Even though we never winterize our camper, we have no reservations until April. Of course, we can always hook-up and head-out at any time!

RE: Dog Hair clipper
I use Andis Ultra Edge clippers for my schnauzer. I purchased them online from PetEdge. Their prices are much better than your retail stores.
Good Luck!

RE: Rescue - a bit over the top???>
We are volunteers with an all breed rescue-- Schnauzer Love Rescue, Inc.
We require an online application with current or previous vet and personal references. We also do a phone interview to 'wean out' the applicants that are truly interested and not. We then require a home inspection. Once those things are complete and passed, they are ready to adopt. However, we get several applications every day. Our volunteers have families and work full-time jobs. Sometimes the process takes longer than any of us would like but that's the way it goes.
We do require a contract to be signed stating that at any time you (the adopter) is no longer able to keep the dog for ANY reason, it must be returned to the rescue. You have no right to give the dog away or sell it.
We also require adoption fees. And our adoption fees are a little more than what some people want to pay. But in order to run a non-profit rescue organization, this must happen. Due to our funds, we are able to extensive vet care if needed for a particular dog. The first thing that comes to mind is if the dog has juvinile cataracts. If that dog is completely blind and a candidate for surgery, our rescue pays $3000-$6000 for the surgery so that dog can see again.
I adopted my schnauzer, Holly, March 2004. I became a volunteer with the rescue in Feb 2005. I've had my share of foster dogs since then and am now only doing clerical duties.
If any of you are interested,Schnauzer Love Rescue, Inc.
