RE: Tekonsha P3 quandry

Picked up connectors and crimping tool (Yes, Wittmeba, you caught it), nother fishing pun. I pulled each old splice connector one at a time and replaced. I will not be traveling again till the 19th, but hooked up the trailer connector, and now at least the P3 is acting like it is supposed to. Reading 0.0 while no brake applied. All the lights work, which with my electrical skill set, is amazement enough. If you hear of a nasty crash in the Colorado San Juans on the 19th, you will know it didn't work. :B Naw, really, I think that was the problem. Trailer mech. at the dealership just did a lousy job splicing in for the in-bed connector.

RE: How hot is too hot? Engine, Transmission?

Pulled the 5er over the Coal Bank/Molas/Red Mountain pass complex the first of the month. The highest temps I showed were 210 on engine, and 200 on the Allison.

RE: Tekonsha P3 quandry

Got a response from Paul Osborn with Tekonsha. Yeah, still sounds like the dealer didn't do a good splice in the factory wiring. I will pick up some connectors this afternoon, break down the splice and re-do it myself. Keep you fingers crossed for me. BTW, this is sure putting a crimp in my fishing time. :B

Tekonsha P3 quandry

I have an email into Tekonsha, but as I am camping and will be heading home in a few days, I need to access the brain trust here. Who knows when Tekonsha might get back to me. I have used this controler twice. I felt it was working the first time, but had to brake the pickup heavy. I thought it was the new trailer being heavier. However, this trip, no trailer brakes with the brake pedal. I could use the manual controler though. That didn't make for a fun trip. What even made it more fun was when it rained on me, the spray under the TV evidently actuated the trailer brakes. (made me think there is a live short somewhere) When I got to the CG, I went through the wiring just visually. First I found when the dealer installed the in-bed wiring connection he didn't use the pigtail available on my Chevy. He spliced in near the connector at the hitch. The end of the unused pigtail was corroded, wires falling apart and of course all traces of any electric tape were gone. I taped this back up, and was unsure if any of these wires splice into each other, or are they just dead ends? Secondly after pulling tape of the splice where the inbed connector comes off the hitch connector wiring, I retaped as there was dirt inside, making me feel water could have gotten in there too. Now, when I plugged into the trailer after my tape job, I get a voltage? reading even when not braking. I know when I was manually braking the trailer during the trip, the display would start at 0.0, and go up as I slid the handle over. When foot braking display stayed at 0.0 Have I made the short worse now that I am reading around a 2.0 all the time on the display? Was it ever supposed to just read 0.0, and increase as I applied foot brake? The pamphlet and trouble shooting guide which came with the P3 are less than helpful. Likewise the website, which has no FAQ section for the P3. Can you all give me an idea of what I may be looking at here?

RE: HAPPY 4TH from South fork Colorado

Ok, ok, so I am a day late. We had a busy 4th. Glad you are enjoying. Happy belated 4th from the Tall Texan CG in Gunnison, CO. BTW, the fly fishing here is excellent. Yes, take a drive over to Lake City.

RE: Where ya goin to be for the 4th of July??

Pulled in to the Tall Texan CG just North of Gunnison, CO on Wed. Will be here through the 15th. Fireworks are planned for the city park tomorrow, but there are some rain showers about. I am waiting till the weekend crowd leaves, then get in some serious fly fishing.

RE: Camping in Colorado Early Sept, % Snow Chances?

Absolutely, you have just got to see the Colorado Rockies in the fall. Sure, I have been snowed on every month of the year in CO, but not enough to cause problems during that time. Sure you might get a dusting, or have to turn on windshield wipers because of snow over a pass, but you cannot beat the scenery, and if time is right, the color change of the aspens ranks right up there with the Northeast hardwood forests.

RE: Will my rig do the mountains

Granted, I have opened up the intake and exhaust, but no mods other than that. I am running with at least as heavy a 5er, and day before yesterday ran North over the Coal Bank/Molas/Red Mountain pass group. No problems with heating, and no problems with lack of power. I never had to pull over to let a group by me. Of course it was on a Wed., so not alot of traffic. Don't worry about it, and have a wonderful time.

RE: Awning toppers in high winds

going2themountains.....be careful with the rope...it can stretch the ends of the toppers. I used a 2 inch strap for a couple of nights and it really stretched the end of the topper material. When it rains I use a beachball (in a bag tied to each end of the slide) to give the topper some slope for rain to run off. Extreme winds I bring them in. Mine are just over 2 years old and are starting to develop holes. I expect I'll have to remove them or replace them soon. Not sure if we will replace them or forget it. You may very well be right. I will be out for the first 2 weeks of July, and will just see how it goes. This is my first RV with slide toppers.

Too close to "deja vu all over again"

Mrs. Mik, and Javasuef. My heart goes out to you all. I am about to tie a knot in the end of my rope here also. As some of you know, my Dearest Wife passed away last month. That has been hard on both me and the kids, but particularly my DD who really misses her mother. Especially right now. DD went in last Tues. for a surgical procedure. During intubation for the surgery, something went wrong, and DD lost her airway. The docs did an emergency tracheotomy, and did not continue the surgery as they almost lost her. The anesthesiologist said due to a very small trachea, and anterior placement of her vocal cords, any surgery in the future will require a tracheotomy. This gutsy girl decided the day after this happened to her, to proceed with her surgery while she had the trach. tube in place so she wouldn't have to concern the docs with dealing with creating a new airway at another time. The surgery went well, and DD was stable throughout. Thank the Lord, as I don't think I could have dealt with losing my wife and daughter within a month. She was released today with the trach tube still in place. We are hoping they will take it out Wednesday. At least that's the plan now. The company I work for lost their contract in this State so I am out of work as of the end of the month. I had planned a trip to the Colorado mountains near Gunnison the first part of July as I needed time to be able to have a break from some of the constant stream of issues/paperwork pertaining to, and following my DW's passing. I am going to hold off the trip till DD has the trach tube out and is healing. As much as I have just about had enough dealings with traumatic issues right now, I can't help but marvel at the strength my DD has shown through her recent medical crisis without having her mother available for support. It seems there is quite sufficient heartache within our forum community right now, but I wanted to share how proud I am of my favorite, and only, daughter.

RE: Awning toppers in high winds

Actually, I like the rope and bungie cord idea. Most places I camp don't have a lot of wind, but had been concerned the same way. I think I will pick up some soft cotton rope to give this a try the next time I do pick up some wind. Same as some others, I wouldn't want to spend very much time in my 5er with all slides closed. It sure makes things narrow, but I can get to fridge, bed, and all the necessities if I have to.

RE: DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

I would check the fuse on the front landing gear, and pull off rear stabilizers to straighten them as much as possible before putting them back on. You really don't put alot of stress on the rear stabilizers, just take up slack to reduce movement. I had one rear stabilizer bent (by much the same means by the way, so don't feel alone), on my old Cougar. I straightened it as much as I felt I could without really breaking it, and continued to use it that way for a couple more years before trading in.

ummm, so what's the moral here. Don't bring a knife to a soap fight? I know, that was bad. (hanging head)

Nope, never have. However, here's your chance. I will be at the Tall Texan CG in Gunnison, CO the first two weeks of July. Stop by to visit, or bring your fly fishing outfit, and we will hit the river.

RE: The bathroom in the bedroom delema

We have been looking at 5er's....nothing serious yet. But the boss has already told me she does not want the shower in the bedroom. She likes the bathroom seperate, so I guess I do also....:B Uh huh. If momma ain't happy, ain't no one happy. We have the complete side bathroom in the Montana, and have plenty of room for two to move around while prepping for a big day of watching the world go by.

RE: Durango Silverton Jeep rental

I have taken my TV over Ophir, Imogene, Engineer, and Cinnamon passes among others. I don't think you will have any problems with your jeep as long as you have some decent tires.
