RE: MICHIGAN RALLIES for 2010

I don't know what they've got going in Ohio but I have to hand it to them. The Ohio Rally threads garner a lot of interest and posts.

RE: Class C to A?

You should probably post this in the class A forum.

RE: 2009 Honda Fit with Ready Brake

I would be interested in seeing any photos of the installation also.....it would be great if they could be posted in this thread.

RE: leveling jacks?

Our purchased-used Jayco has factory-installed BigFoot levelers. We love them. Pushing one button and being level in about 60 seconds is a great feeling. Just last weekend we watched a couple struggle for at least 20 minutes leveling with boards in the campsite next to us. If you can afford it, by all means call Jayco and have them put 'em on.

RE: Bike rack

We have a Yakima rack (Kingpin 2 model). We love it. The quality and durability are very good. The rack-to-hitch lock and the bike-to-rack lock is keyed ths same which is nice.

RE: So Sad !!! Winterized our Class C today....

It's been cold here also. We are on our 16th straight day of below average temps. We are averaging almost 9 degrees below normal for our highs. It should easily be a monthly all time record for low high temps. We are not giving up on the camping season though. We are heading up north this weekend and hope to do one or two more weekends before we put her away. Looks like highs get back up into the 60's next week. Yee Hah !

RE: 09 Honda Fit Sport with fog lights & Blue Ox base plates

doghouse_owner: Sounds like you're all set up. Great to hear. I put off getting our Fit towable yet this year. I hope to get at it early late winter/early spring. It's good to know the Blue Ox baseplate fit with no reefing or prying. ;) I still haven't found anyone locally who has any installation experience with the Ready Brake.....a few said they would do it though, but have never heard of the system. We do love our Fit. It handles great and can haul a lot of "stuff". I'm still finding out new things about it. Presently we haul our bikes on a hitch-mounted bike rack on the back of the motorhome. I was wondering how to haul them when we start towing. The other day I thought I would try and load them in the back of the Fit.....they fit inside fine. I guess that will save some money in buying a new bike rack or hitch for the Fit. Mark

RE: 2008 greyhawk

A Jayco dealer in mid Michigan us has a very nice looking "like new" 2006 31' Jayco Greyhawk with hydraulic levelers on Ebay right now with less than 2,800 miles with a starting bid of less than $34,700. Also, another Jayco dealer in SW Michigan has a 2010 31' Jayco Greyhawk on Ebay with a starting bid of $50,000.

RE: Michelin LTX Tires

LTX's on our rig are almost 5 years old, have less than 10,000 miles on them but ride very well and look new.

RE: Disappointment - Michigan State Parks - Mclain

It’s been awhile but the last time I camped in a National or State Forest Campground they had pit toilets and you put your money down a pipe to pay for your campsite. I don’t doubt these type campgrounds have larger sites, quieter conditions, and plenty of nature but I don’t think you can compare their services & amenities with many of the State Parks, especially when you factor in the unbeatable miles of Great Lakes Beaches, modern restroom/shower facilities, 50 amp service (some), boardwalks & hiking trails, boating, hunting, and fishing opportunities, and entertainment & ranger led education programs for adults and children found at several state park campgrounds. I think the state parks have done a pretty good job at trying to be self sustaining since being given that edict several years ago, even updating restroom/shower buildings and paving roads in several parks in the process. The problem lies in the shear numbers of state parks. The more popular state parks would have no problem making ends meet on their own but they have to share their revenue with all the parks, many of which are smaller, have much less attendance, and have no chance of being self sustaining. The answer is probably to sell off the less visited parks but that would never fly with the general public......the same general public who doesn’t want to pay tax dollars to support the park system. We usually visit the more popular state park campgrounds and pay around $27 per night for the site and with our $24 annual sticker our per night camping cost is still less than $28 per night. I don’t know of any RV park that charges less than around $40 per night in the summer, many are in the $45 to $50 range…..private campgrounds yes, but not true RV parks. I also think the state parks have done a pretty good job with their tiered pricing structure for campsites. There is quite a range of campsite prices based on the park’s popularity. As far as seeing “the loyal few who are still coming”, we camped 40 nights in six different state parks so far this year and didn’t see much of a drop in campground usage. I’m sure their overall numbers are down but then what business hasn’t seen a reduction in revenue in the present economy. It still is an unbelievable tough struggle to get a campsite in the summer at the more popular state parks. As many of you probably already know, at these parks if you don’t get through on the phone or over the internet to the reservation center on the exact day, six months in advance, in the first five minutes of opening, all the available sites will be gone for that day. That is one heck of a popular product with a huge demand that they can’t begin to meet. It’s too bad we don’t have a longer camping season in Michigan. That would go a long way to balancing their budget. Global Warming, hurry up. ;)

RE: Jayco roof inspection / resealing question.

I would find it hard to believe that a two or three year old rig would need a roof re-sealing to the tune of $1200. If it truly did I think I would be calling the manufacturer and telling them they have some "splain'n" to do. Roofs are made to last a lot longer than three years. I'm sure there are always going to be a protrusion or two that didn't get caulked real well and need to be touched up or replaced but I sure would question the need to re-seal the entire roof after that short period of time.

RE: granite ridge entertainment center problems

We have the same setup and were close to buying a new TV last winter before finally deciding to go with a converter box. I found a 26" Vizio LCD TV that had almost the exact dimensions of our opening. It would have required removing some wood off the wood trim filler piece along the top of the opening. I thought that would have been easy to do.

RE: Jayco 31SS Weight Ratings

Is the unit close by to go look at the sticker on the inside of a cabinet door? It gives the weights and the CCC on there. If not the salesperson could check it and give it to you.

RE: husband is making me crazy

I don't think I would sink the necessary money into a motorhome for one trip a season.....with the hope you might go more often. The maintenance and ownership costs are just too great. I would spend a few thousand and get a pop-up and use it for a couple of seasons and see how it goes. If he finds that he likes the basic principles of camping and develops a desire to go on a semi-regular basis than I would trade up to a MH if that is the method of camping you two decide would fit your needs the best.

RE: Shocking Experience......literally

This evening I bought the polarity tester recommended on this thread. I plugged it into the garage receptacle and it showed an "open ground". I then plugged the MH into this receptacle and measured the frame to earth voltage. It was cycling between 0.3 and 0.48. The polarity tester also showed an "open ground" when plugged into a receptacle in the MH when plugged into this receptacle. I did not get the electricity "shocks" off the metal parts of the MH this time. What would cause it to happen sometimes but not others? I then plugged the MH into a GFCI protected receptacle and the polarity tester showed "correct" when plugged into a receptacle in the MH. Oh, and thanks for the compliments to my wife.....she now has a big head. ;)

RE: Shocking Experience......literally

Sorry I have not been attentive to the thread I started but we returned last evening from a three-night camping trip......with no issues I might add. It's getting dark here now but tomorrow I will plug it back into the same garage receptacle that caused this problem and check the voltage reading from the frame to "earth". I will say that this is not the first time I have experienced this issue when plugged into this "more than likely" ungrounded receptacle. Since we bought our rig (two years ago) I have experienced this issue a few times to a lesser extent...meaning the electricity I felt was milder than it was this time. One other note, when I had it plugged in, I was using a 100' outdoor extension cord......not a heavier gauge cord...we don't run anything but the fridge when parked at home. I am afraid most of the discussions I have received are over my head electrically speaking. Wayne Dohnal: when I switched receptacles I plugged it into a GFCI protected receptacle.....and nothing tripped.
