RE: Missoula - Portland US12 vs I90

... After Lewiston, you will be driving along the Snake River and eventually meet up with the Columbia, not much to look at but the highway is fine. .... Actually it only stays with the river till Chief Timothy park, about 8 miles. Then it climbs a side valley to Alpowa Summit (WSDOT camera), and from there follows a gentle valley through Pomeroy. This is the route that Lewis & Clark took on their return trip. This overland route was easier than traveling upstream along the Snake. The Summit isn't much of a pass (2785'), just the top of the climb to the wheat growing fields of SE Washington. There's a rest stop. Lewiston is the lowest point in Idaho, so every way out, except by boat, involves some uphill. Highway 12 is a beautiful drive, many places to pull over and look, hike, even small bridges to cross the Lochsa river into the wilderness to hike there. Love the Pomeroy, WA area, antique shops, Pataha Mill to browse through etc.

RE: Overnight stop between Twin Falls and Salt Lake area

Curlew national grassland is 7 miles from Snowville. Thank you, we travel that way every year and I did not know about this campground, I have added it to our lists of possible overnight stops. Looks like a really pretty place.

RE: Rt 12 West of Lolo Mt

good road, bit of a climb up the Montana side lolo pass, little steeper down the Idaho side but only five miles. Forest service campgrounds open on memorial weekend. Wilderness gateway campground (between mp 123 and 122) may have a loop open earlier, they sometimes do for the rafters. Lots of places to pull off and hike trails or just look at the river. We go that way often and enjoy the camping along the way as it is close to home.

RE: Flaming Gorge to Grand Teton - Hwy 191

Did you mean 191 in Wyoming going into Jackson. Traveled from Hoback Junction to Rock Springs last spring with a 33 ft MH and toad I don't remember any hills that should be a problem. 2-lane pretty decent road, some of it very scenic. I would go that way again. A little off your route is Palisades Lake, gorgeous just 23 mile west of Hoback Junction. Nice campground just below the dam on the Idaho side. A little bit of a hill dropping down into Idaho tho. Sorry I don't remember the grade or elevation.

RE: DW won't drive

I agree with all the posters that say everyone needs to learn to drive, tow etc. We live where one of our favorite places to camp and travel is about a hundred miles of no cell service. It is along a scenic corridor and if something happened while camping in that area there isn't always help available. Now I do all the driving, towing setup etc as my husband has parkinsons (still likes to camp) so if we go it is up to me. He can not handle long travel days so the MH makes it much easier for him and he is happy to sit and watch the scenery go by fromm the passenger seat. He still is the worlds worst back seat driver (50 yrs commercial) LOL, we just make a joke about it, we need to make back seat driving a paying job. We would be well off. So get out there and learn to drive, you might enjoy it LOL.

RE: Yet Another TV Conversion

awesome conversion, now I am going to hijack your thread since I can't seem find (did a search already) how to change out our in dash tv to a flat screen, where to put it, if moved what to do with the hole it came out of etc. You did such a great job thought some of you might have a few suggestions or know where to find the info. Thanks all

RE: Salt Lake City to Moab

Enjoy Moab, have lunch at the diner in the middle of town. We thought the food and service was great when we were there in March.

RE: Beartooth Highway with DP & toad

I am surprised by the bite of some of the posts. I have also ask for comparisons of highways in the past and got some of the same types of posts. I was grateful for the ones that were thoughtful, helpful and to the point. I had gone from towing a 5'ver with a diesel/ with jake brake to a gasser MH and was trying learn what to expect. I assume since you have a DP you have a engine brake and I am sure you have lower gears LOL so I would go for it. It is a beautiful drive, enjoy.

RE: Montana/Alberta Broder Crossing

Hi Fer2005, perfectly timed posting about the crossing at Wild Horse, Thanks. We will be going in that way the end of July to go to a family gathering at Elkwater. It is the first time going with the motorhome and having to have passports. I have really enjoyed all the info about going into canada and it has helped a lot in my planning for the trip.

RE: Oregon Coast State Parks

Almost all of the Oregon state Parks are worth visiting. You can't really go wrong. Netarts Bay RV is a great private park. If you are a veteran, Oregon has a Veteran's pass which entitles the holder to 10 nights free camping each month. It can be obtained by mail. We used my pass a lot during our 3 months spent in the North West several years ago. Hope to be able to return this year. Did they change? I thought it was just for disabled vets. My husband has the pass, we have used it often.

RE: Cast Iron Restoration Project

To clean crud from cast iron put it in a garbage sack and spray with oven cleaner, tie sack closed and let it set. I've left as long as a week, it does not hurt the CI. Scub with sos pad and repeat until your cast iron is clean. Wash with hot soapy water, rinse well and dry with paper towel and then heat to thoroughly dry pores. Season with light coating of canola oil in oven or on grill. I season mine at 450 to 500 degrees repeating until it has a nice and black, carbonizing the oil. Scrambled eggs slide out better than with any teflon.

RE: leaking toilet

First, thanks to everyone for the info and help. The supply line inside the toilet was jostled apart so only leaked when we turned the pump on, vacuum breaker was bad and the seal was starting to deteriorate. I weenied out and found someone to come and fix it. So $85 later it is working as good as new. We are 70 miles from any rv repair people but the local rv park found a mobile rv repair guy for me, they even put down sheets so they would not track mud into the coach. I was happy with the price and their work.

RE: Telling a poster to "do a SEARCH"

I think telling someone "to do a search" is rude. When I ask a question on a forum I have usually already done a search using various wordings and have been unable to get the answers that I know are out there. As a lady (with a handicapped DH) doing the maintenance on a dodge PU and 5'ver and now a MH (Traded 5ver so DH can still go) I really appreciate the help I get that is so kindly and with humor been given to me. So to those that always seem to help with a :) in their postings, THANKS.

I knew it wasn't like the sticks and bricks one LOL. Thanks for the info and words of encouragement. We will see what happens and how big a mess I make.

leaking toilet

Don't know if this is posted in the right place. The darn toilet has leaked 3 times and I can't seem to find the source of the leak. It seems to be coming from under the bottom of the toilet. Do I need to plan on replacing the toilet or can I pull it all apart and maybe fix it. I have never done this so some basic directions/suggestions from all of you would be greatly appreciated.
