RE: Double pulling

Just a FYI, if by chance you need more length than allowed in the states you will be traveling you most allow you to buy a temp oversize permit and get beyond their limit. For example, Utah where I am has a 65' limit, but you can by a temp permit (they have one that last several days or you can buy one for a year) that extends the max length to 75'. Check the commercial sites in those states to find where to by the oversized permit. You won't find it at the DMV.

RE: Voltage slides

I think the slide seals are making a lot of chatter on mine too, I have squeezed them while opening/closing and the sound really changes. Anyone have an idea how to make them quieter.

RE: Brands of Diesel fuel?

Is cetane ratings for diesel fuel like octane to gasoline? octane varies by elevation, at sea level you need more octane, as you go up in elevation you need less octane to maintain the same quality of fuel. As an example premium gasoline at sea level is often 93 octane, get up in the rocky mountains above 5,000 feet and you can't find 93 octane, the highest "premium" you can purchase at the pump will be 89 octane. I ask as I have owned my truck since 2003 and never been concerned with cetane, and can't tell a difference between diesel fuel from stations in my area. I do as previously advised seek out stations that are busy to get the freshest fuel and hopefully the lowest moisture content. I have never had water in my separator (ever) to the point that I no longer even really look at it very often to drain off water. I also don't live in a flat enough area that I could notice a 1/2 mile increase or decrease in mpg. Just curious, so thanks in advance for any help offered.

RE: fresh water tank won't fill completely

I have to blow air into the vent line to clear water that blocks it. I use a short bit of hose and blow by mouth. Do it 2 or 3 time to get the fresh tank completely full. This method works for me also, I only have to do it once per fill and not every fill. I have a section of hose the same size as the vent hole next to the fill hole. be careful when clearing the blockage as water will shoot out the vent and get you wet if you are in the way. I have a theory that when I have a trip where I fill the tanks all the way, that when full they slosh the vent line and thats when I get the vent blockage. I can't help with your other problems, good luck!

RE: Solar panel install on Toy Hauler

Dave, I am also starting to eye putting solar on my Voltage 3905. Have you looked into how you will get the wire from the roof to the battery box yet? On my last trailer there was an easy route, but I haven't studied the 3905 yet?

RE: Selecting a 5ver For Double Tow

Voltage also makes toy haulers with 10', 12', 14', and 18' garages separated by a wall and sliding glass door. I like when we get set up unloading the toys and using the garage as extra space, we use the garage area as much as the rest of the trailer while camping. Just an idea for 'txfiver'.

RE: Selecting a 5ver For Double Tow

Also have a look at the spring packs on the fifth wheel, if you get measurements and count the leafs you can tell what they are rated for with the help of google. you may need to upgrade the leaf springs in addition to having a hitch welded up on the rear. as others have mentioned, when you get trailer wiring set up on the rear of the fifth wheel, consider having electric brakes run to the second trailer. I double towed for many years without problems but did modify my tow vehicle, fifth wheel, etc to handle it.

RE: Planning to Toy Haul Full Time - Looking for Advice

Be aware that the garage on fifth wheel toy haulers doesn't have the same insulation as the rest of the coach, the bottom or floor as an example is not ducted for heat, nor insulated and is open to the ground. The reason is to vent fuel tanks, store spare tires, etc. This means in extreme temps either really hot or really cold you feel the affect and it is hard to control the temps in that portion. My toy hauler has dual AC, and I wish it was like the new models with three as we often camp in the extreme desert heat and we can't cool the garage when it is over 95 outside. Also when camping below about 35f its hard to keep the garage warm. Like others have said, when we get to where we are camping, we set up, unload the toys and convert the garage to additional living area. We always eat and socialize in the garage area. We really like our toy hauler and look forward to going out in it. I hope you find what you are looking for and it works out for you.

RE: Voltage Remote Control

Dave, any chance you know what port on the back of the Sony it plugs into? I have had my Sony out before due to wires disconnected so likely I didn't get that one plugged in when I removed the Sony. I might have to go into the pantry and remove the false wall in there if it fell behind? Thanks all for the help and advice!

RE: Voltage Remote Control

asuperheat - now that is something I really would like to do. Any idea how to make it work? I confess I didn't try it outside, but have tried it in the garage standing near the Sony with no success.

RE: Voltage Remote Control

Here is what the inside of the remote looks like, I tried doing google searches on the numbers printed on the circuit board but no luck. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24392289/Remote%20Internals.jpg

Voltage Remote Control

My 2012 Voltage 3905 came with an oval shaped remote mounted to the cabinet under the TV in the garage. I have never had this remote work so today I tried to figure it out. I am still stumped and am going to ask for help here. I opened up the remote and replaced the battery, I can confirm the remote has the battery in good working order as if you push a button on the remote there is a red led that lights up. My theory is that this remote goes to the Sony radio/dvd player in the garage but must confess I am not exactly sure. The Sony radio/dvd has a remote that is the credit card style, and this credit card remote does indeed work, I use it often and again confirmed it was working today as I corrected the time after daylight savings this afternoon. Any other Voltage owners get one of these remotes? Does yours work? What device does it operate? Anyone know how to get it working? Here is a picture of the remote I am trying to get working. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24392289/Remote.jpg Thanks in advance for any help!

RE: When double towing, have you ever been stopped by police?

I have been pulling doubles for many many years and finally was pulled over about three years ago here in Utah. The year prior my spidey sense started tingling so I purchased an over length permit, my permit expired three days before I got stopped. I was 68 feet long and the limit is 65 unless you have a permit. The officer who stopped me was polite and very professional but really thought I was much longer than three feet over as he measured four times before citing me. I didn't realize my permit had expired so I was guilty and ticketed. I was on my way home when ticketed and immediately renewed my permit for the next twelve months. I took the expired and renewed permits to the judge and he erased the ticket. I was following a triple axle 40 foot toy hauler towing a 16 or 20 foot flat deck type trailer stuffed with atv's, dirt bikes, etc. He was way longer than me but I was the one stopped. FYI, most states that allow double or triples in the commercial side will have a temporary permit that RV'rs can purchase so you won't get ticketed. Utah allows a twelve month permit or a three day and charges different prices depending on the amount of time the permit is valid.

RE: Slider Function

Depends on your pin weight. Some of the heavier units won't slide or roll unless you take a little weight off the pin. I would try without the chocks and front landing gear down first and if it works use that. It also depends on if you have your truck and trailer in a straight line vs in a partial turn. So even if it works in a straight line by just using the trailer brakes, you may have to lighten the pin if truck and trailer are at an angle when you tried to slide.

RE: conveters/ inveters

Here is some work another forum member did on his voltage. I followed his lead but kept air con, fridge, and micro off the inverter but left everything else on the inverter. I did remove factory converter. Inverter info

RE: 2014 Voltage?

I don't know anything about the 2014 models but the end of the 2013's they added a package called "Epic II" that most trailers don't have as they do a limited production run. I have heard they only do about 500 trailers with the Epic II on them. We got a 2012 with the Epic I package and when I looked at the 2013's I didn't see any real changes except the Epic II add ons. I notice you are in Utah, there are two dealers here in the Wasatch front to choose from and one in Vernal. The northern dealer seems to have more selection in stock from my experience. I hope that helps?

RE: Voltage 3950 Slides

There are two slide motors on each slide in these Voltages they can get out of sync where one side is tight against the trailer and the other is not tight. You can find the instructions to sync the motors if you google it, but if your Voltage is new, consider finding a good dealer (ask if they can adjust the slides and that sort of stuff) and have them fix it. I had small issues when my Voltage was new, but once the kinks were worked out all is well. Good luck to you!

RE: cost of a good detail

You can go to the semi truck washes like Blue Beacon for a wash (not a detail). Its $43 for truck and RV washed. They do a very good job. They offer things like rainex, and other protective applications above that price if you so desire.

RE: My toy(s)

Speaking of Chuck Sun, I met him last year in Indianapolis. Every Feb there is a huge dealer only show (not open to the public) and he was in town for one of the vendors as I was. I wanted to watch supercross on saturday night of the show so went to a sports bar downtown, he was there for the same reason. It was extremely interesting to watch supercross with someone who actually had raced it before. His insight during the race I found spot on. A very nice guy!!! Just got back from the Dealer Expo yesterday. Was Chuck Sun part of the sun line display? This year Racer X had a huge SX party saturday night....was a good time. I am not sure who he was there with last year? I didn't go this year but my company was there as they are every year. I hear attendance was way down this year and they didn't sign up people for next year at the show as they normally do. Talk of the show being in sept 2014? I have to get my supercross action wherever I can when traveling on the road. Glad to see someone thought that others might want to see it and hosted an event.
