RE: my new to me1984 23' winnebago chieftain

Not being familiar with the EternaBond stuff, does it come in different widths and/or sizes or colors? How clean does it have to be for it to adhere? Is it paintable? Will you now paint over the entire roof or add any more coatings to it? I really like the idea of painting mine white just for better reflectivity when it's in the sunlight. Is that needed or is the idea a waste of time? So many questions....I'm overseas and can't see or work on mine now. One of these days I'll get back and this is one of the first tasks I want to accomplish. Thanks for sharing your info and post. Stay safe out there. Ken eternabond comes in all different widths,2" up to 36". it comes in different colors. it is very sticky. it is not cheap. i wanted to properly prep the surface so that it would stick good so i scraped all the tar off and then used degreaser to remove the residue then used aceetone to wipe it down before sticking it for good. i used the 4" width eternabond. when i get done doing the vents and ac unit i might use a white roof coating to protect the tape from UV rays and also just tie the whole job together for looks. i am not sure about that because it seems like it may make repairs in the future more difficult. this is my first time useing eternabond. on a different note i hit the jackpot today and found a FREE downloadable chevy p chassies motorhome manual!!!!!! here. tons of great info!!!!! http://www.bdub.net/manuals/P30/index.html

a better pic of the sealed roof seams. i coverd up the old hole from the fridge vent as well and used black eternabond caulking on all the screw holes from the roof rack. http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/gungadinsawmill014.jpg http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/gungadinsawmill012.jpg big rv brake drums and brakes http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/gungadinsawmill015.jpg http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/gungadinsawmill016.jpg

RE: my new to me1984 23' winnebago chieftain

here are some crappy cell phone pics of my progress, finishied the seams on the edges of the roof. didn't do the ac unit or the vents yet but it is so hot out i decided to take a brake from the roof work and do the brakes.here is the roof http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/1341771596.jpg the wheels were super stuck. this is a little homemade chain puller i made to go on my harbor freight porta power. it popped them off. without it i would not have go them off. they really went pow when they came off. http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/1341771974.jpg i had to pull the axles to get the rear drums off.look at how rusty the axle shaft is. hopefully the inside of the differential looks better than that. i will have to drain and flush it while the drums are off. http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/1341772474.jpg

RE: 1983 chevy p chassies brake caliper removal?????

thanks guys, got it this morning before the sum makes it hot out. i wound up working the caliper back and forth with a 16# sledge for about 20 min till i got it moveing, then driveing the wedge out with a drift and a 3# hammer. it fiannaly came. it is a shame because everything is like new, no wear, just junk from sitting parked in the grass. that moisture is a killer. i think this is the caliper i need, 35$ on rock auto. i love that site. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=523719

1983 chevy p chassies brake caliper removal?????

i am trying to start doing the brakes on my 83 chiefton. built off a chevy p chassies. here is the thread from my progress so far.http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/25693533.cfm the front wheels were rusted on badly and i had to use my protapower and a chain puller to get them off!! now that i see how rusty the calipers are i see why they won't work or release. i removed a small allen head set screw from the back of what looks like a dovetail key on the bottom back of the calipre. does it drive out? or am i missing something. it looks like it has a small tab drove in above it with the ears bent over on both sides. i do have that tab moving on the one caliper. i am trying to figure out how to the the caliper off to clean everything up. i have been spraying it all down with liquid wrench and hammering on it with my air chisel but nothing is moveing except the one tab on the one side. i have no manual.

RE: my new to me1984 23' winnebago chieftain

removeing tar to put eternabond down. removeing roof rack to remove tar. the tar is thick. can i put the roof rack back down overtop of the eternabond and shoot screws through it? will aluminum gutter sealent work as a caulking under screw holes and penetrations? http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/motorhomerooftar020.jpg http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/motorhomerooftar018.jpg

RE: my new to me1984 23' winnebago chieftain

Finally getting around to making some more progress, got the engine running nice and all up to my standards. Brakes still need fixed but I decided to start working on the inside for a bit. I got all the carpet up and removed some of the dinette to get it out of my way while I do flooring. I am going to replace the front part around the doghouse with carpet; I saved the old pieces to use as patterns. We were planning on doing the rest with laminate but now that the rug is gone I can see the floor is buckled and warped from getting wet. The plywood in the bedroom is uneven with the rest of the floor and there is no way laminate will go over these bubbles. there is also a big hump in the floor right between the wheel wells. there is a 2x2 support under the floor there and it seems to be pushing up into the plywood but when viewed from under the coach all you see is the aluminum caladding on the bottom of the plywood and everythingl looks good. hmmmmm any ideas? Water seems to be getting in the back somehow as I can see the lower back wall is damp now that the bed is out. I may have to spend some time on the roof before I proceed with the building of bunk beds and framing in the old fridge opening for a dorm fridge and microwave. I hate the heat but the tar they smeared on the seams should come off easier in the hot sun so I can put the eternabond on. what is this hose with nothing hooked up to it? is that where you suck antifreeze in to winterize? http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/motorhome010.jpg http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/motorhome006.jpg http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/motorhome007.jpg big gap, like the plywood has expanded http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/motorhome005.jpg http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc437/gusbratz/Toys/Motorhome/motorhome012.jpg
