RE: Full Timing Accounting Question

You're running a business by renting your "home" and are required to pay taxes on that, regardless of where you are living or domiciled.
You would be filing as a "Non-resident".

RE: Am I missing something?

Naturally we were over 20 miles from the nearest rv supply store.
Plastic plugs are NOT an RV specific item.

RE: Frig. drain hose ???

I don't understand all of the complaints about the rotting/brittle drain hose on the reefer.
Mine is 13 yrs old, still functions, moves around in the rare instance I remove the outside cover to access the rear of the fridge, and still has the little "cap" on the end to allow drainage and keep bugs out.
Are they making them different now, and not the 5/8" "corrugated" plastic tube
like I have?

RE: Ford and GMC to produce new 9 and 10 speed transmissions

And on these 9-10 spd trannys, I'll bet you'll never see one in a HD diesel powered PU. Too much stuffed into a small space can't possibly allow much torque.
???? The up to 18 speed transmissions in OTR trucks seem to handle 2000+ ft./lbs of torque pulling over 100,000 lbs. just fine. A smaller, fully automated version would work well in a pickup.
I don't think so. Those trannys are MASSIVE, as is everything else on an HDT. And they use a splitter to get 18 spds, not gearsets. And they're manuals, not automatics.
I just don't think the metallurgy and size constraints under a PU will allow it.
The Ford's 4R100 (100 for the 1000ft lbs of torque rating) is pretty big already.

RE: Ford and GMC to produce new 9 and 10 speed transmissions

I would rather see a two speed rear end.
It would be nice to select between a loaded and unloaded rear gear!
Hear, hear!

When I was involved in re-engining a helo from T58's to T700's, the new trannys that had to be developed caused us to have to have to derate the engines from 1800SHP to 1250SHP since the trannys couldn't handle the increased loads.
Trannys have always been the limiting factor in going bigger in just about all technologies.

RE: TV Antenna "upgrade"

Any body read his post??
He asked for a recommendation for a motorized OTA antenna and all the "experts" launch into reception theory.
Typical Internet babble.Yeah, as a matter of fact…
The OP is wanting to replace his antenna because he is under the impression that the significant difference between him and his neighbors is the antenna, and/ or height.
So your solution is what?
PS- I guarantee I’m more of an “expert” than you. I’ve gone to the effort of pulling out a $50k Spectrum analyzer to look at the performance of the Batwing with and without Wingman attached, and intend to add the Jack to that survey sometime soon. What have you done lately? (geeeeze…)
Soooo Sparky, you can impress us with techno babble, but no recommend dation for a motorized antenna.
To be expected I guess

RE: FBI & IRS raid Flying J/Pilot offices

That 33 cent per gallon drop is in line with what I see at other stations around me however (South Carolina, no pilot/J nearby but other brands abound)
Maybe over a period of time, but to see a $.33 drop OVERNIGHT, is totally beyond belief.

RE: FBI & IRS raid Flying J/Pilot offices

I posted this in the earlier thread but its still relavent::::::::::::::
Don't know if it is connected, but............
Two days after this news came out, here in Vegas, at the Pilot off I-15 on Craig Road, the diesel price went from $3.98 (cash/credit +.07) to $3.65 (no credit price increase).
Now that's not your normal "new fuel load came in, new price" kinda price change!! .33 cents decrease is whopping today.
Maybe more to this story than is presently known.

RE: Adjusting camber

Have you priced an axle? May not be too much more than the cost of re-cambering it.
And, have you figured out what it lost camber?

Went to register it today. And. Come to find out I need something from the town hall and the fire department dating I am up to date on my taxes. Had no idea. Learned that after sitting and waiting at the registry for 2 hours. At the Connecticut State DMV for a travel trailer???
Yeah. That's where most folks go to get plates for a trailer!

Pulling the breakaway switch pin, CAN, result in frying your brake controller if the trailers "umbilical" is still connected to the truck.

RE: Lug Nuts

Next time use 'Never Seize' compound on the studs before putting the nuts on.
This or a Little light oil
Torque values are always specified and directed to be on "dry" studs.

RE: Leaving 5th wheel on jack stands

I'd keep the jackstands as close to the wheel positions as possible. Thats where the frame has been holding up the total trlr weight. I'd be leery of placing jackstands on a frame rail very far away from the axles.

RE: Mor/Ryde Pin Box or Suspension Airbags

Custom pin boxes are a marketing gimmick IMO. I've got 191,000 miles and 12 yrs on the Carriage trlr wheels w/2945 lbs pin weight with the std pin box and a 20K Reese hitch, w/o problems.
That money should be spent on either disc brakes or independant suspension.

RE: Advice needed on after market Automatic levels

Waste of load carrying ability to add the system. In addition to which is the addition of a hydraulic system. There isn't a hyd system made that does'nt leak, whether industrial or whatever.
Keeping it simple is far better.
