RE: to the MODERATORS, a question and a Thank You

i am not dis-satisfied with the mods. none of them. i think they do a good job from my seat. furthermore, i have not ever read where a mod has broken a forum rule. and if they ever did, i would stand up for them, simply because i want to. i have no problem. i have a question. i dont even have a complaint. please take the time to re-read what i have posted. i know no other way to ask- is it your "job" to say "thats illegal" or thats "wrong" or "thats unsafe"? is it part of the moderator job desription? or do you "care", and that is why, sometimes, the written "tone" is the way it is? because if its your job, i'm gonna choose to ignore that quoted post i just described. but if it isnt your job, and you post in that tone because you care about all things that negitively affect our lifestyle, then i dont want to ignore it, i want to accept it a voice of reason and experience.

RE: to the MODERATORS, a question and a Thank You

no sir. my question does not intend to summon a response as to why a thread was closed, locked or deleted. i trust it is always with good cause, and if there isnt good cause, thats ok, its just a thread on a forum, i respect the process. i am questioning the motivation of a condemning post from a moderator, posted on a thread where someone has admitted to illegal, immoral, or unsafe activity. is the motivation for such condemnation a responsibility to RV.net as a corporation; a responsibility to promoting better practices in our lifestyle, or a little of both? sometimes the tone of such a response from a moderator is too "better than thou" for my taste. this is only my opinion, and this is only sometimes. i wish i could right off the response as "they are a moderator, they HAVE to post in such a manner, as not to promte such behavior, in order ro protect our wonderful site from liability" but alas, i cant lie to myself. so when i read a post that has that underlying tone aforementioned, and its not jobly duty, but a "listen to me, im better/smarter/more experienced than you", i want to move on to another thread, like changing a channel. i dont feel a need to change the MODs post, just read somethng else. WKEV9955, i thank you for your response, its dooley noted. blderbuck, this is not intended to be "contriversial". i only want to know the motivation of the inner workings so i know when to click to another thread or continue to read. this has become the only forum we partake in. its very well done in my opinion, so i appreciate your response, but it was made in a different spirit as my OP.

to the MODERATORS, a question and a Thank You

most importantly, let me say thank you for volunteering your time to the great site. i have no doubt that without you this site wouldnt be worth diddly squat. this site will survive without me, or even 100 of folks like me, but remove the MODs and well, you know... now the question i have noticed a pattern. often times a thread will show up where someone partakes in questional behavior, or illeagal practices. it may be TV overweight, disableing of safety equipment, intentional misuse of land or property and, well, you get the drift. invariably, a post follows, by a moderator, that sites the legal, safety, or moral aspects of the behavior described above. does the moderator have a contractual obligation for the post that is condemning said behavior? or, is it more times than not, a moral obligation; to the betterment of the site we all love, that the condemnation occurs? i understand that each moderator is different, and this question's purpose is in no way to lump moderators together, except in grattitude, or to offend any moderator. its just, i want to understand the position one is in, as the post condemning such behavior is entered. i feel this will help me either to dimiss the moderators post as one that must be made, as duty calls for it, or allow it to be contagious to me, because the post was written with true concern and with a spirit that is dedicated to changing behaviors that negitively affect our lifestyle.

RE: is my speedo off 3or4mph or 3or4%

law of proportions..... according to the website above if your input in the stock tire size is 10% smaller than the aftermarket tire size input field, ex. 30" stock and 33" aftermarket, it shows a speedometer reading of 60mph and an actual speed of 66mph. a 10% change. a proportionally same change. law of proportionality "In mathematics, two quantities are said to be proportional if they vary in such a way that one of the quantities is a constant multiple of the other, or equivalently if they have a constant ratio." according to WIKI also, accoring to pinkmonkey.com "5.2 Ratio and Proportionality Ratio is a comparison of two numbers expressed in the simplest fraction form. If a city covers an area of 100 square miles and another city covers 200 square miles, the 'ratio' of their area is expressed as 100 : 200 or on simplification 1 : 2. This means that the second city is twice as large as the first. Ratio is a very useful way of comparing two numbers. If the age of the father is 50 years and that of the son is 10 years the ratio of their ages is 50 :10 or 5 : 1 which means that the father is five times the son’s age. If in a linear pair the ratio of angles is 1 : 2, it is possible to find the exact measure of both the angles. If the measure of the smaller angle is x, the measure of the bigger angle is 2x. Therefore x : 2x = 1 : 2. Since a linear pair of angles sum upto 1800 x + 2x = 1800 3x = 1800 x = 600 \ 2x = 1200 The two angles are 600 and 1200 Proportionality : Compare the drawing of a bridge on a paper with the actual structure. They look similar because the ratios of height to width to length are the same in both the cases. The equation which shows that two ratios are equal is called proportion. The design on paper and the actual structure look the same because they are proportionate to each other. Equality in ratios is expressed as follows : The number at the end i.e. 3 and 10 are called extremes and the numbers in the middle are called means. Proportions have four properties. 1) Cross Product Property If This is also called the cross multiplication property. 2) Switching or exchange property. If 3) Upside down or inverting property. If 4) Denominator addition or substraction property. Example 1 A segment measuring 10 cm is divided into two parts in the ratio 1 : 3. What is the length of each part ? Solution: Let the length of one part of the segment be x then that of the other will be 3x . Given that x + 3x = 10 cm. or 4x = 10 cm. \ x = 2.5 cm. Therefore one segment measures 2.5 cm. and the other 7.5 cm." hence A sq + B sq = C sq The Pathagorean Theorem

is my speedo off 3or4mph or 3or4%

i have read a few threads that refer to larger than stock tires making the speedometer read speed incorrectly. i've read "speed will be off 3 or 4 mph" wouldnt that be 3 or 4%? if your speedo reads 8mph are you really going 12mph? or would you be going 8.25mph? conversly... at 60mph are you going 64 or wouldnt you be traveling at 62.4mph, which is 104% of 60? i know this is splitting hairs, but i want confirmation that i see this as it is, or i've misexplained this to the DW, and therefore want to correct myself before she does.

RE: 4X4 versus 4X2

i love my Cummins Turbo. but i will say it is very front end heavy. i get stuck often, when the bed is empty; if i go to the backyard, around the garage in the grass, i have to take off in 3rd gear or it justs sits there and spins. i have walked away from it more than once. one time i let it sit there 4 days, to let it think about it. you may never be in these conditions, but thought you'd like to know.

RE: function over form with a dash of hillbilly (pics)

to get the proper lug bolt pattern, i stopped in to a local junkyard and purchased a mid eighties dual wheel spacer and used Dodge 08 lug bolts and nuts. $16! yeeehaw!!!!! my total investment for these three mods as followed battery/connections ect- $218 entry steps- $28 spare tire carrier- $35

function over form with a dash of hillbilly (pics)

we been hard at it, tryin to get ready. a few mods were in order. first up, after we slid in our drawer cabinet was an extra battery, to keep our DC refridgerator running, connected to the truck battery via a HD switch, disconnect while boondocking, connect to recharge during travel. next, we wanted some steps at the entry of the TC, to make egress and digress safe. i used the receiver for one step, and the tow bumper ball mounting hole for a temporary step. both of these are finished with friction no slip paint. both are pressure treated as well. these along with a step on the ground will be perfect for us. DW says placement is spot on. and... i saw on someones post earlier in the year, a sparetire mounted on the front of his Dodge Ram. i liked it a lot. so i did one. not nearly as nice looking, but i like it. i took off our SS smittybilt push bar off and used their mounting brackets. worked perfect. DW did all the painting. yes the truck is dirty,(raining every day!) and i still have to trim out and finish my caulking job. spare tire will match the size and weight rating of what is currently on the truck soon after we get below Mass. (better prices) i am the type of fabricator that will do several attemps at what i have in my head before i build the "perfect" fabjob, so all comments are welcome. lets get to the pics! http://i25.tinypic.com/2nio6ys.jpg http://i29.tinypic.com/1z3csbd.jpg http://i30.tinypic.com/5nt10o.jpg http://i28.tinypic.com/2saib1c.jpg http://i32.tinypic.com/fe1nhf.jpg http://i28.tinypic.com/zmjoxx.jpg http://i25.tinypic.com/2co4nb4.jpg http://i29.tinypic.com/fyoq9t.jpg http://i29.tinypic.com/13yhu3b.jpg http://i25.tinypic.com/xcsti9.jpg thanks for lookin

RE: we are NOT taking the T.V.

laptop is the so called hi end 17" so the pic aint too bad. we get most of our weather via the net... i have been a t.v. junkie most of my life, except when we bought our house up here in northern maine last summer... i went 3 months without it. lost 15# with out even trying and i was outside doing "stuff" all the time... i want to change my outlook, my influences, my priorities. i was wondering if anyone else tried it without the t.v. i want to moninate myself to be the official "Bumpyroad's stupid question asker". seems i can never word it so that Bumpyroad doesnt lose patience with me or my question.... not trying to go green... have you seen our RIG? 9mpg just hoping for a good book and some good company with the DW. weather radio and accuweather.com for us. so. if you go too long without a dumb question being asked of you; let me know, i can whip one right up for you....:b

RE: Not a good day

wolfcat1, its a camper, not a family member. things can be replaced, lives cannot. having said that, i feel your pain. i lived in jacksonville fl for a long time and nothing is safe there; theft victim many times, it never gets easy. makes a person see RED. i have no doubt you'll do your homework on the insurance, and at least you had insurance. best way to get past this, from experience, is to live well. forget about that old one, see this as an oppritunity to end up better than what you started with...sometimes we need a little kick in the pants and a little less coddle-ing. consider this theft as a wake up call, because when we get complacent, things like this happen. and if you havent been complacent, and you have been vigalant, allow this to be the catylist that was needed to remind you that as times get tougher for everyone else, you're gonna have to be tougher too. when you are ready, mentally walk away from that camper, resolve to not dwell on it, and physically welcome a newwer one.good luck. respectfully, Rocky
