RE: Registration or residency requirements

What is your definition of "Snowbirds." If you are including Canadians there is defined rules of length of stay.

RE: Where to go?

This past winter in the RGV we went to two symphony concerts, a jazz festival, USA cheerleader championships, world kite competition, Hidalgo Christmas light festival, St. Padre Island lighted boat festival, went Para Sailing, attended a bloodless bull fight, attended welcome and farewell winter Texan street parties in Mexico, won a Texas wide billiard completion, watched the American shuffleboard championships, hiked at the world birding centre and put on 20 lbs. This besides the fabulous activities within our park that included writing, painting and genealogy classes. Great billiard hall, library and live entertainment. No matter where you are you can be as busy as you want to be or not.

RE: Where to go?

One should keep in mind: "Frosty nights in Florida..." generally refer to areas north of Lake Okeechobee. They are a rarity between Fort Myers and Naples. We had maybe two or three in the last two years -- none this season! And, our strongest wind (one day about a month ago) was hardly more than what RV'ers experience every day in parts of the RGV.
Nor, have we negatively experienced "...the crowds and line ups, higher prices, disgruntled neighbours..." that her&I (above) experienced. Our last crowd and line-up at Mel's Diner proved to be a delightful time with great conversation among a group of snowbirds who were not strangers after the first five minutes; the prices are NOT higher unless you make that choice of eating establishments, and, finally, her&I sound like they fit right in the "disgruntled" category. Lighten up and you might brighten up everything and everyone around you!You do not have to worry about us lightening up as we are quite content with our RGV choice and hope that everyone finds a place that THEY feel is the best because that is half of the game.

RE: Where to go?

Some people swear by Florida and some swear by Texas. I read all the forum posts on both for a year and then decided on Florida.
Florida is such a small state that no matter where you park you can go and see something nice on a day trip. Don't like the CG you are in? Within a day you can drive to another area of Florida. State is so narrow you can just about spend one day on the Gulf Side and then drive to the East coast to enjoy the ocean there the next!
CG's might be higher priced in Florida but IMHO there is WAAY more to do and drive to than where the Texas snowbirds park. I really never hear them talk much about driving to see attractions or site see. I'm sure some do but just saying from what I see on the forum. That and the Texas Snowbirds speak of the wind and dust quite a bit. THAT was what my deal breaker was.But we do not talk about the crowds and line ups, higher prices, disgruntled neighbours or frosty nights. We will leave that to you Floridians. Just saying

Selling Canadian registered motor home in US

We were forced to come home early due to pending surgery and left our motor home in Texas. It is currently at a dealership that will put it out for sale on consignment. It is registered in Ontario. Anyone know what steps should be taken to do this legally?

RE: Request for RV Storage Info in the RGV

If you are still in the RGV drop by Sun & Fun RV Resort in San Benito. You can put your rig on a regular RV site and reserve for next Jan-March and pay a storage rate of $30 a month when not there. They might want you to be there first. Would not hurt to give them a call.

RE: Mouse control while you're gone in winter?

Fresh Cab sells on Amazon. Maybe it works... Sometimes...We have bought it from Makarios for 3 years now. Put it in the house for the winter and in the RV (stored in a field) for the summer and have not had rodents since.

RE: Mouse control while you're gone in winter?

The Fresh Cab repellent from Markarios that I mentioned on the earlier post does not leave smelly bodies around but keeps them from coming around in the first place. The product also does not know the difference between a house and an RV.

RE: Mouse control while you're gone in winter?

We used to park our motor home in a storage area that was a breeding ground for mice. We found a product at Makarios RV that worked wonders and was inexpensive. Have gotten good response from everyone we recommended it to if it was for RVs or homes. Comes in small packets they you simply place in infected areas and it repels rodents. It is called Fresh Cab Botanical Rodent Repellent and can be ordered on line at MarkariosRV.com. Delivery has always been in 7-10 days.

RE: Space Relief Today

One of these days we may also come down for winter in south TX and decide to stay on! We will need to do a test summer, to see if we can handle the summer heat! Anyone feel free to comment!!!! We are originally from the St. Louis area so we are used to high temps and high humidity.I do not think you can compare the summer heat of St. Louis to the intense summer heat of south Texas

RE: Space Relief Today

We came to Texas with a fully loaded 38ft motorhome and are returning in a week and a half in a Saturn. Do you think we are having dicussions about what must come, should come, maybe come and wish it to come. Do hope there will be room for both of us and the dog.

Departure checklist

For those of us that are leaving a park model in Southern Texas for 6 months there is many things that have to be done to ensure everything stays safe. Anyone have a departure check list?

RE: Migration north has begun.

We will be leaving Fun & Sun RV Park here in San Benito, Texas around March 21. Will spend a week in Flint, Texas near Dallas and then head up to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. This gives them almost A month to stop using four letter words like cold and snow.

RE: Motorcycle snowbirds - Texas?

Fun & Sun RV Resort in San Benito has a very big motorcycle club called "CRABS". Am not a cyclist so do not know much about them except they are very active both in riding and fun raising. They sponsor some of the entertainment events here.

RE: bbq in the rgv

We made it to the Longhorn Cattle Co BBQ in San Benito today for lunch. We will add this to our list of great BBQ restaurants in the RGV. Had the super plate which included ribs, brisket and sausage. The wife had the roasted turkey in place of the brisket. Everything was great including fast, friendly service and reasonable pricing.

RE: bbq in the rgv

I agree with Pawatt concerning the Lone Star BBQ in Mission. The wife would go even if it was just for thier Grapefruit Pie. We took a friend there who said she had never liked catfish but fell in love with it there. Will be headed to Longhorn Cattle Co. tomorrow night.

RE: Minus -40 Below 0

Just in case you didn't know, -40º is the only temperature that is the same in Farenheit or Centigrade. So -40º in Minnesota is the same as -40º in Ontario. :B
Aware of that. It makes one instance when cold is cold no matter who is bragging
