RE: 460 Ford engine problem

I think these guys are on the right track with the electrical problem-particularly a bad ground. Be sure to check the main engine ground and also any house grounding cables. I have had several 460's and another thing that is important is running some injector cleaner thru them every now and then. In this case that would have nothing to do with all the other freaky electrical symptoms, however.

RE: Water tank fell out.

Mine didn't fall all the way out, but almost. I remounted it with some angle iron and some strap metal and has been fine for years.

That's why I like boondocking. No neighbors.

RE: rope lights

Yup- we use a solar powered string under the rig. Provides enough light that you can walk around without tripping over stuff- like the******from your neighbors dog that they didn't clean up. And when boondocking it supposedly keeps the pack rats away. Might just work because we did get a rat in the rig once when we didn't have the lights out- but have never had one when we do. Never thought about the obvious advantage of keeping your flamingos corraled.

RE: How often do you dump

Every situation is a little different- kids, no kids, shower very day, every other day, how many people, do your own cooking, how may dishes ...
We have found for the two of us, being only moderately careful can go easily a week and maybe 10 days. But if we are moving I dump every time I leave a campground 'cuz I'll be darned if I want to burn expensive diesel hauling a load of black water around.

RE: Satellite tv advice

Thank you so much- all of you. I have a lot to digest and yes, I'm pretty sure I'll have more questions. Thanks again.

Satellite tv advice

I am trying to become literate in the satellite tv arena because I would like to buy one. I need advice. Here is my situation. We travel in a fifth wheel which has a standard bat wing antennae now but is wired for satellite. We live in Montana but generally travel in Az, Ca, Tx and are planning a trip to Alaska in about 2 years. We enjoy HD but don't need it. I would prefer some sort of portable dish rather than a fixed set up because I would like to use it at my summer cabin as well. We are not huge sports fans. So my questions are: Which company would best suit us- Dish or Direct? Would the Tailgator be my best option for the dish? Will any of it work in Canada and Alaska? I thank you in advance for any advice you can share.

RE: landing gear dual motors

I had times when the single motor didn't want to pick the rig up. Where I store my rig is not level- so the rig is nose down. She really used to struggle before I got the dual set-up. There were other occasions too. I'm really pleased with the duals

RE: landing gear dual motors

Yeah- I've done this- on my Heartland Bighorn 5'ver. Love it. Didn't take long, cost about $700 bucks and works really well. You'll need to find out who made your original jack system, order another jack/motor/gearbox with the same ratio (found on the data plate on top of the jack) and install it. If I remember correctly it took me about 3 hours.

RE: BEST gps

absolutely agree- you must double check the route. A GPS is a wonderful tool but it WILL lie to you on occasion. I love our Garmin 2450 but never do I trust it implicitly. My buddies Rand Mcnally had all the appropriate info loaded in but still tried to send him on a road that not only would have been inappropriate but also illegal for a rig his size.

RE: Get out and go... while you still can! (A whiney rant)

So sorry to hear about so many problems. I'm taking your advice! One of my traveling buddys just had a heart attack- he's going to be ok with some lifestyle changes but it is a wake up call. I'm done in August and hitting the road!!

RE: boondocking - why do you do it and where?

There are lots of reasons to like boondocking. Our biggest one is the fact that we don't like to be so close to a neighbor. Another is the "freedom"- we don't need reservations, we don't need to adhere to a schedule, we don't need to worry if we "will get a spot". We are home wherever we happen to stop.

RE: Whats your favorite adult beverage??

A little bourbon in the evening. In the morning I like coffee with a shot of Baileys Irish Cream and a shot of Patron Cafe flavored Tequila. Couple of those and you don't care if your eggs are fried or scrambled.

RE: Quartzsite AZ snowbirds - returning??

I agree with Budster- it's what you make of it. I also agree with others that it seems to be going downhill. But for us it is all about the old friends that we meet there every year- some of them are getting to the age where they may not make it there many more years. We want to maximize our time with them so yes, we plan to be there next year- God willing and the creeks don't rise.

RE: I-Pad or Samsung tablet

guess I'm the odd one here, but I bought an Ipad for the DW for Christmas. It didn't work. Couldn't turn it on, called support- they walked us thru a reboot procedure that was a temporary fix, Had to do that at least once a day. Finally had had enough, returned it and ordered a brand new one direct from Apple. We still talk to tech support at least once a week trying to get it to link up to wifi and now our 90day free support is up so they want to charge us $80 bucks to make it work. I like it when it works but next time we'll go with the samsung
