Dinners without a refrigerator

I'm in need of dinner ideas that use ingredients that are canned or packaged - or anything that doesn't need refrigeration.
Thanks for your thoughts!

RE: Hard boiling fresh eggs

One additional trick, not yet mentioned: To prevent eggs from cracking as they cook, take a corsage pin and pierce the LARGE end of the shell. Push the pin just so it goes thru the shell, not down into the egg. Then cook, using your favorite method.
The piercing allows tiny bubbles of air to escape as the egg cooks, letting off pressure so the shell doesn't crack. You'll see these little bubbles emerging as soon as the egg begins to heat up inside.

RE: App for finding diesel

Gas Buddy frequently has more up-to-date prices than MapQuest. Map Quest is good if you like audio directions in addition to print.

App for finding diesel

In case you're not already familiar wiht it, MapQuest has a free app for finding cheap gas prices that lets you specify the type of fuel you want, i.e. diesel. If you'd like to download it, search for "MapQuest gas prices" in the app store.
After it is downloaded, tap on the gas pump icon on the right lower corner. Then scroll to the desired fuel type. This will limit the search to only your desired type of fuel, instead of listing all the generic gas stations in your nearby vicinity.
I can't vouch for its accuracy in other locations, but near our home it was accurate in listing available diesel sources and omitting the stations that don't have it.

RE: Storage Solutions

EASY CELL PHONE CHARGER STORAGE http://i841.photobucket.com/albums/zz339/hobbssb/ece12380-1b51-4f7f-9ab5-d52dd1cab571_zps7177bbc9.jpg?t=1367179384
If you'd like the container more permanent, it can be velcroed to the wall near the outlet. The container easily holds 2 cell phones.

RE: Generator/Inverter

I don't know what the new Roadtreks have, but in 2011 their Sprinters had 1000 watt microwave ovens and 750 watt inverters. The 190's had the smaller 700 watt microwaves.

RE: Storage Solutions

We reorganized the galley storage, adding 3M Command hooks and elastic cord to store lids and the egg poacher on the door.

RE: Generator/Inverter

The inverter converts the 12v dc from the batteries to 110v AC, which you use to power things like microwave ovens, TV sets and DVD players - the stuff that usually runs off 110v when you're plugged in to shore power. It lets you use those things when off the grid without running the generator to do it.
Don't expect to be able to run high wattage appliances like the microwave off the inverter; most microwaves are too big of a draw. The inverter is for small wattage, such as the mentioned TV and DVD player or recharging a cell phone. Our inverter is 600 watt which is enough to run a little 2 cup coffee maker (which is 650 watts), but not enough for a toaster or microwave.

RE: What Did You Do To Your Class B Today ?

We mounted a spice rack between the back wall of the galley cabinet and the outside sliding door to hold cereal and disposible gloves. It was really hard to find a rack narrow enough to fit in that small space. Most racks are 3" deep which would be too close for comfort with the sliding door, but this one is only 2.5" deep. It is from Old World Market (SKU 456762.

We also added a hook on the same wall to hang our window washing squeegie. Now the squeegie can drip without getting other things wet.

We just refilled our DEF today. It cost $6 for 2 gallons and we refill about every 5,000 miles. Translated: don't bother to worry about the cost.

RE: Class A Owner Moving To Class B - Brand Help

We went thru a decision process similar to yours last year. We decided on a LTV Free Spirit. In addition to the obvious floorplan differences, we liked the LTV refrigerator that was one notch bigger (4.5 cu ft vs 3.8 cu ft found in many models), 2 6-volt batteries for more output vs the 1 12-volt in Pleasureway, and the black tank clean-out valve which was new to the Free Spirit 2012's.
Everyone has different priorities. If you don't mind paying more, the new heater systems with the quieter fans would be nice. Whatever you buy, you'll adapt to it's restrictions, work around the limitations, and love the freedom of life in a "B"!

RE: Tilting the TV down

I forgot to mention - the VIZIO tilting wall mount, advertised to fit a range of TV sizes including the 22", DOES NOT WORK with the VIZIO 22" TV. The attachment plate is too big and covers the various ports on the back of the TV such as the RGB port.:M

RE: Tilting the TV down

We found a tilting mount for $25 at Fry's. (SIIG CE-MT0A12-S1 Tilting TV Wall Mount) The screw holes did not match the monitor, so we ended up using a screw in one hole and a wire thru the other mounting hole. It is working out much better than we expected and has made it over unpaved roads and bumps with no problems. We can now tilt the monitor downward so we can watch movies in bed. :)

RE: Preventing air bubbles in water line

I also use a 'quick connect' on the camper end of the hose. To get the air out I only turn the water partly "ON", then I stick my index finger into the coupling opening and let the air out before connnecting to the camper and before opening the water connection fully. The more water pressure the harder you have to push!
Thanks for the tip! My finger's too fat to push into the coupling opening, but the end of an old toothbrush works great. No more air bubbles!

Preventing air bubbles in water line

We used to connect our water hose to city water first, turn it on and run it until water came out of hose, then connect it to the RV. We never had any trouble with air in the spiget causing water to spray all over when the faucet was turned on.
We now have a quick connect attachment which is great, but we can't run water thru the hose before connecting it to the rig. The result is that we have a lot of air in the line which is a major annoyance with all the splattering it causes.
How do you get the air out of the hose with a quick connect, before you attach it to the rig?
