RE: dual pane windows & weight

CONDENSATION! That IMHO is the #1 reason to get dual pane. Second would be sound proofing and third would be insulation. I have been down to 18 degrees with it warm in the coach and not a bit of water inside the windows. Wasn't so with single pane. Wasn't a big deal when we were weekend warriors, but now that we are fulltime it is wonderful! Brian We have them and would not be without them. Our unit weighs under 200# more with dual pain windows vs. single pain. Advantages: less outside noise heard inside the 5er, no condensation like on single pain windows which causes moisture to run down the inside of the bedroom windows after a nights sleep. Our unit feels less inside temperature fluctuation during outside temperature swings. Dual pain windows just seem to make the 5er have a more comfy and cozy atmosphere. Lakeside

RE: 10 Gal hot water heater.

30 minutes is not long enough! The actual time it takes to heat 10 gallons depends on the temperature of the water in the tank, outside temperature, and flame adjustment. If you are connected to shore power, why even use the propane? My thoughts exactly! We have been full timing for almost a year now. We have a 12 gallon hot water tank. We have two 7 gallon propane bottles on the 5th and I last filled them last July in Newport, Oregon. I just switched to my second tank so I have used 7 gallons in about 10 months! Use electricity when you can! Brian

RE: America's Mailbox ridiculous price increase!

Hi Barb, We just went fulltime in June. We have no more permanent residence in Cali, but I do have mail sent to my daughter's house there. We do not stay there. When we visit we stay in an RV park., so yes we use S. D. For our registrations.

RE: America's Mailbox ridiculous price increase!

I'm sorry if I offended EVERYONE! Apparently my point was not understood. Of course $30.00 is not going to break us.. I just felt the across the board $30 increase was not well thought out. It was not a huge increase for the $200.00 a year service, but was quite a big percentage increase for the BASIC $100.00 service. All of my mail goes to our daughters house, I just needed a mailbox for DMV since we are full timers now. I do pay them extra for handling my DMV paperwork, so this is just for the privilege of having a box. I'm glad everyone is PROUD of paying more and prefers I do also. I just happen to be frugal and like to get a good deal. 30% just seemed like a large increase to me, but I guess not to anyone else. My sincerest apologies for offending all! Brian

RE: America's Mailbox ridiculous price increase!

I don't begrudge them an increase at all!!! 30% is not reasonable. They went $30.00 across the board. I can see if they went a % across the board. The lower cost ones increased less then the higher cost ones. But 30%!!!!!!! OK, I'm done venting! For those of you that feel 30% is fair, good for you. For me the conversation is closed. I just wanted homebw and people like him to know how I feel about it. Thanks for listening, even those who 'flamed' me for an opinion. Brian

RE: America's Mailbox ridiculous price increase!

You are right Tom, I could go elsewhere but the problem is that I have invested in them with my titles and DMV stuff. It would cost me more to re-issue elsewhere. That is why I am letting others know about it. 30% increase just seems like an insane increase. In today's market with 2-3 percent CPI it does not seem warranted. I'm not saying they don't have the right to do it, just as I believe in the free market, I also believe in free speech to share the information about their increase! :)

America's Mailbox ridiculous price increase!

America's Mailbox mail forwarding service has increased their fees as much as 30% this year!! The basic bronze service has increased from $99.99 to $129.00 which is a 30% increase! The silver and gold also went up $30.00 which ends up being less then 30% on those plans, but what was Don thinking to just do an across the board $30.00 increase. I already have my DMV stuff tied up using their addresses and it would cost me more then the $30.00 to change them all over to a more economical service, but I am not happy with this outrageous increase! I would go with another service if I was starting new! I called and they tried to claim they were still among the lowest service. I had checked around on the internet and this is not true. I brought this to their attention and they just kept saying it was JUST an .08 cents a day increase. Needless to say they would not do anything about it. Too bad because I WAS a big supporter of America's Mailbox! No more!!!

RE: Stabilizers

Steadyfast are great! One thing is that as mentioned earlier they only have three knobs which are LARGE and easier to get to. My buddy BIll Gehr who reviews for Tralier Life and has the "Ask the expert" article in RV Journal has tried them all and actually bought these! He says they are the best!

RE: GIGGLY WIGGLY MOTION

The steadyfast are awesome! The JT's have gone down in quality since Lippert acquired them IMHO. With the Steadyfast you only have 3 easy to get to tighen points as opposed to 6 inconvenient with the others. My buddy Bill who does Q & A for all the major RV magazine's tested both and said Steadyfast is by far superior. It is what he has on his right, and he can have any of them! Brian

RE: Running both A/C's on split 30 Amp service

Google 'JTB Power Solutions'. They are in business! I just installed it yesterday and WOW! To test it, I ran the fireplace, the water heater, the fridge, the parabolic dish heater on high, and the microwave all at one time hooked up to 30 amp and the 20 amp cfgi plug. I was impressed. To top it off, the volts were only at 114 when I started turning things on! Time will tell, but so far so good! Brian I have the power solutions junction box. Snip... I believe that the company that made that device for RVs went out of business. If you have a current link, I'd be interested in checking that product out. Maybe I heard wrong...but checking google for it didn't get me anywhere.

RE: Celebrated 1 year of full timing 2/1/2013!!!!!

Congratulations! We just passed our 8 months and so far it is spectacular! As far as ontheroad2012, I don't know what to tell you. We never find time to get bored! We did retire early (56 and 55), and I said I couldn't wait to take some naps. 8 months on the road and haven't had time to take one yet. We haven't figured out how we ever had time to work. :) We stay from 1 to 3 weeks at each location and find all the cool places to sight see. The waterfalls, lighthouses, cliff dwellings, worlds biggest ball of yarn. We sometimes just take a ride on our motorcycle (actually a scooter). I guess I just haven't yet figured out how to get bored with my best friend of 38 years. The only problem is we do miss the kids, and we just became grandparents for the first time. Skype, texting and phone calls as well as swinging back home every 4 months or so helps with that. We have already assured the renters (we didn't sell the house), that we would give them another year lease so we will be out for at least two years. After that we will decide again. Year to year. But for now we are loving this life!! God Bless, Brian

RE: AT&T in Quartzsite?

That's kind of a relief to me. I am on Straight Talk using AT&T towers on my Android phone. I was only getting Edge on the 24th and 25th. I thought it was because I was on Straight Talk. The phone however worked fine with 4-5 bars. I called Straight Talk who reset stuff on their side, but said everything should be fine. My wife's Straight Talk Verizon Android was working great the whole time. Today I looked at my phone and 3G was back!! It turns out it was not Straight Talk, but AT&T. In a weird way I feel relieved that it is not because I am paying 1/2 of what AT&T users are. Having said that, I can see why the vendors would be very unhappy. This is the very reason we chose to go with separate carriers on Straight Talk. If one is not working, we figured the other probably would be! Brian

RE: Passport America

I went fulltme on June. A couple years ago before I retired (and had lots of $$$) I bought a lifetime membership. It was $400.00. I had a year earlier bought a 3 year for $79.00 so they gave me $50.00 credit, so I had to pay an additional $350.00. Since I bought it I have more then paid for it in savings and since I never pay again I don't feel compelled to use PP. Having said that I still use it while traveling to destinations. I am just 57 so I hope I have many years to save with my membership. (Just in case I had them put both my wife and my name on the card) :) I may not have renewed every year with a limited retirement budget, so I am really glad we bought the lifetime when we did! Brian

RE: Did your warranty and money go south????

It amazes me how people will willingly hand over a couple thousand dollars to a company they never heard of, never investigated, have no references for to purchase a product they know nothing about. Then they cry when the company won't cover something that is clearly excluded in the fine print of a contract they never read...Just keep handing them your money and getting nothing in return..It's good for the economy. B.O. And how about the RV dealers that prey on these people who never read contracts. You are right! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. The good news is that it is only a phone call away if people will just look in their contracts. I have already contacted my friend that told me about it, and he will be checking tomorrow. My problem was that my new Cameo with the best warranty in the business went out of business 6 months after I bought it. Because I am fultiming now, it is only a matter of time that the policy will more then pay off since I don't have a manufacturer warranty. Well many of the items are still warrantied by the manufactures for the original Carriage 2 years like NorCold and Thetford, etc... The other good news is that the Cameo has been excellent so far! RE: Did your warranty and money go south????

Rather then listen to all the "talk" here on the forum, I decided to do my own investigation as to where MY warranty "Insurance" stands. Yes the calls to Go RV go unanswered. The good news is that they are nothing more then a "dealer" for the policy that I purchased. I opened up my policy and called the number for claims. I dialed "0" for customer support. I got a live person and asked very simply is my policy still in effect because I heard Go RV went belly up. For any Go RV policy questions I would need to talk to an administrator. I was handed over to someone in the office. This person said as long as all the paperwork was turned in I was good to go. I gave her my VIN and name (easier then finding the contract number quickly. No problem, you indeed are covered with an 84 month policy. No worries! Have any of your friends call if they are worried to verify paper was passed to us. As I said, GO RV is just a dealer, the policy is not a GO RV policy, they just sold it. So as long as they properly completed the paperwork, and sent it in, all is good. Just make sure you check! RE: Extended Warranty?

I also have NEVER bought an extended warranty which is actually an insurance policy on the product. I made an exception 6 months after I bought my Carriage Cameo and they went out of business. Since I went full time in my coach in June I decided it made a lot of sense! I paid about $1250 for a 7 year exclusionary policy which means in less it is specifically spelled out in the policy it is covered. So far I have not had to use the warranty, but one of my best friends who had been in the RV repair business for over 40 years, and who currently writes how to articles for RV Journal, Trailblazer for TT, and does reviews in Trailer Life and Motorhome magazine said they are real good about paying up. BTW he also bought a Carriage when he retired and bought the same warranty from his experience. Brian
