RE: Not receiving most HD channels, help!

According to a tech I spoke with today sat 129 is not showing up so it has to be in the cable or dish is off. I guess I need to call a tech out after checking all cable connections.

RE: Not receiving most HD channels, help!

i wish it would have been that simple. It has 3 LNB's,
When one does a check switch should the 129 come up? and is the dish system the 500 or super? should tuner input be on 2 or 1 or does it matter?
thanks!

Not receiving most HD channels, help!

I cannot receive HD on most of our channels. I do get a few but very few. I talked to a Dish tech and he ran some info and suggested I have a tech come out. We are in the RV and that would not work. We are 200 hundred miles from home. I do get all my channels in standard TV. The on line tech said I was not getting sat 129 and that is where all most all HD channels are. I thought all I had to bring in is Sat 110 and 119?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Chuck

RE: Survey of Safe and Unsafe States in Mexico

Yea I thought you were talking about those really big mosquitos. :)
Bars have nothing to do with fresh air, open the window, made of any material and you get fresh air. You will find that homes with air conditioning have bars.

RE: Pre-trip shopping -- stuff to bring?

I have not been asked for meat yet. During the mad cow era I heard of meat being asked for in Baja. Different states different fruits and veggies. Usually all citrus.

RE: FMT Baja

As far as I know there is no place to turn in your tourist permit in Baja, unlike the mainland. I have never turned one in and never used to even get one until a few years ago when driving to Loreto or La Paz.
We travel constantly to Ensenada and San Quintin for short visits and never have any one of us ever taken out a tourist permit. I am not saying there isn't a law that you need one, but in all my years in Baja only when returning from Baja Sur heading north have we ever been asked for one at the state line.
Mainland is completely different.

RE: Survey of Safe and Unsafe States in Mexico

If 75% of crimes are not reported these surveys don't hold much value.
Poverty and drugs not necessarily in that order, are probably the biggest reason for crime.
Most of the RV parks in all countries we have stayed at are gated. Poverty in Mexico is at a high level and as honest and humble as most Mexicans are some revert to taking what is not theirs because of need.
Bars on windows are there for security, they sure won't keep the bugs out when the window is open so the screen theory kind of goes out the window,no pun intended.
Broken glass on fences and walls are for one purpose only to keep people out, people that won't bother using the front door.

RE: Lukeville Crossing

T.T.
We cross at TJ because we visit friends and relatives that live between TJ and Ensenada, or else I too would use Tecate.
I heard the same info from Vagabundos Club, I am a member. The Aduana carries the same hours at the inspection site (G.N.) as they do in Ensenada. I found the Ensenada and border crossing impossible to park a 40foot rig with a toad. G.N. is the only way for me. Why would they fine someone for using the facilities that are there for that and other reasons? Not sure I believe it unless I see it happen. In all my years traveling Baja the only time we have even been asked to show our tourist permit is at G.N. heading North.

We could not find horseradish. We were making shrimp cocktail sauce. I also jam my freezer with choice cut rib eyes.

RE: Lukeville Crossing

We heard about that fine if not purchased at border and there was no way I would stop at TJ for our permit We went to the aduana at the border of South and North Baja, (Guererro Negro) and were issued our permits as usual. That fine IMHO in Ensenada is a scam by some agente.

RE: Hungry Police

My take on the OP post is that the people in his park broke some kind of law, speeding, etc. Yes it is still a mordida but if the law has been broken I also would pay at the scene as little as possible and be on my way. I know that this may not be a popular choice on this forum, but that is my take on it.
Now if I am being pulled over for the sake of a mordida and no law was broken, then I would demand to go see the Comandante and try to talk my way out.
I have only been stopped once by the traffic police where I did pay a mordida, about 30 years ago, I was speeding. Those were my younger days and I try to obey all laws and have not been presented with having to pay a mordida since.

RE: Road Tolls - What Am I?

We are charged for a bus and a car. A couple of times they didn't see the jeep and only charged for the bus. I have pulled into booths where the attendant will ask another attendant what to charge for us, maybe they were new. Fortunately I speak fluent Spanish and I can make sure I am not over charged, again I base that on a bus and car. One set of friends traveling with us had a 5er and their charges were all over the board and another friend had the same set up as us and I would radio them the charge as they would follow us.
Even though I feel it is costly to travel the toll roads we feel it is the safest.

RE: dollars changed to pesos

Yes your card or account can be stolen, but like you said they got it corrected, even if it took some work. This can happen in any country. Now if you get your cash stolen you won't be getting that back!

RE: Have Your Ducks In A Row @ Border

The scenarios presented here smell of Mordida! Some of you might disagree but I have seen this type before. These are some of the challenges that one faces traveling in Mexico.
With a passport NO birth certificate or marriage license are needed!

Hughes RV220-50 VS RV450 auto transformers

I have found model RV220-50 on sale at many web sites. I went to the Hughes website and found they are manufacturing a NEW RV-450.
I asked the price at PPL motorhomes which have the RV220-50 on sale for $519.00 if they had the RV450 and they said they don't have them in stock yet but can get one at over $900.00...........WOW!!!!!
Sounds to me like the distributors are trying to clear out the old model.
I have heard that older Hughes transformers had some problems?
Is the RV-450 a better transformer than the old or just a new name?
THANKS
Chuck

RE: dollars changed to pesos

I too WAS old school until recently, always took travelers checks and U.S. currency. Always I would exchange at bank. Banks and ATM are same rate of exchange. But I did start to run into some banks that were not excepting dollars on certain days and sometimes only between certain hours.
I gave in and went the way of the debit card, much easier and bank rates. If you exchange at places of business they will always give you a lesser rate, it is a way for them to make a peso or two.
The charges are minimal especially if you withdraw the max each time.

RE: Butane Scam

Don't know if they were the same guys but last winter the truck came to our RV park in Tenacatita and the driver and helper had a scam going. They would show a higher ticket after fill up, I caught it because I knew approximately how much I needed, one of my neighbors before me did not. After they left and we started to compare notes, we found that the same charge was applied to each camper, so watch them start the meter on truck to zero and they should give you a reciept that matches.
