RE: Generator prewire location

The gen transfer switch is located in a 4X4 metal electrical box, mounted on the ceiling of the RH (passenger side)storage compartment. It is best reached through the door closest to the front of the RV. I could find no picture to show the location in my owners manual, just the wiring diagram. You may have more luck over at the Tetoners forum. Your rig appears to have the same paint job as mine! Good luck. Catfish

RE: Merging onto an Interstate

My understanding of the North Carolina law is that the traffic in the RH travel lane near an on ramp must slow down to allow ramp traffic to enter. NC did have "yield" signs at the end of entrance ramps, but most have been removed. Don't you just hate it when the 4 wheeler entering the traffic does not accelerate or drop back so you do not have to change lanes or hit the binders? About the same can be said for 4 wheelers slowly passing you - don't they know what a "passing gear" is? Catfish

RE: play in jaws of hitch

X2 OP, I would contact Reese and find out the acceptable manufacturing tolerance. If there is enough play that you notice it then I would question it. . Thats what I did and they answered very quickly. My jaws did not close completely and they provided the tolerance, plus assurance that I had no problem!

RE: Alarm Systems

Get an alarm that has a timed siren when an intrusion is detected (about 2 minutes is good). This will ensure that your neighbors aren't anoyed too much. Also, I would spend the money to have it monitored by a good alarm company. Most will call you to verify that no accidental activation has occured prior to notifying the police. If fire is monitored, they will not notify you, but send the fire detection immediately to the fire department. This is the way a good sticks and bricks system works and has saved many folk money and their property. Regards, Catfish

RE: Slideout insulation?

For the draft: I would add another slide seal gasket on the lower edge of the slide. Evidently yours is not doing a good enough job to stop the "leak" of cold air. JM2centsW Catfish

RE: Time to head South...

If it's too cold to wear shorts where you are, it's time to go further South! Catfish

RE: A good place to buy a 5th Wheel hitch in Houston?

If there is a Camping World near by they usually have Reese hitches on sale and will install them for around $90. Ft. Myers CW did mine and did a good job. Of course you have to find a decent CW... There is a Camping World out in Katy, off I10. I used them before on a refrig problem and they did good. Give them a call. Catfish

RE: Disgusted with KZ quality

"And the breaker that is failed is a double, so the only way to switch to a different breaker is to tie into something with a higher AMP rating, and that's dangerous." If the double breaker does not supply a 220 volt circuit (not likely in a medium priced RV)each wire could be switched to another single breaker that is used less to regain the power to whatever you have lost. This should be after determining that the circuit itself is not at fault (causing the breaker to trip) JM2cents worth :) Catfish

RE: Towing Nose High

On my Chebby (2008 D/A dually K3500) I installed 3" lowering shackles in the rear. It was not too difficult except the upper spring shackle bolts are installed with the head inside - next to the frame - nut outboard. I guess that is a safety thing so that the bolt will not come out should you loose the nut. Had to jack the frame up after loosening the spring to remove the bolt. When the new shackles were in place, I installed the bolt with the head outboard and just check them for security at each oil change. The 3" drop made a big difference in making my rig nearly level. Works for me, YMMV. Catfish

RE: Use of furnace in Fiver

I would uh-hook the power cord from the 5er to the TV, if it does not have an isolation relay to prevent the furnace from draining your starter battery. Just saying. Catfish

RE: Wood Frame versus Aluminum

Lots of folk want to complain that wooden framed RV are much heavier than aluminum framed. That is mostly correct. However, there are advantages of a wooden frame over aluminum: wood provides an additional insulation barrier that does not conduct heat (or loss) as readily as metal; condensation is greater in Al frames compared to wood; more bracing is required in a larger 5er, so the weight advantage is reduced in larger RVs; Ain't so much structural fatigue with wood as with aluminum. These are not all my thoughts - some gained from the original Teton Homes literature, but makes a lot of sense to me. Must have - I have bought two of them and would buy again. JMHO Catfish

RE: Cold weather use-> heated pads vs forced air for tanks

Some tanks with the heat pads may over heat when the tanks are dry, if the thermostat control turns the heat on. I have read, (NOT SEEN) where this may happen. I have both, vented heat from the furnace, and heat pads controlled by thermostat. I usually blow out my lines for winter after draining the tanks. I have left the electric pads on and have not had a problem. Just one more thing to be aware of and to worry about, I guess. Catfish

RE: 12V power cable reel?

I'm pretty sure he means 12VDC power to operate a 120 volt trailer power cord retract reel. 12VDC operated trailers are few and far between now days. JMHO. Catfish

RE: Electric awnings, pros/cons

During a rain, not storm, my electric will automatically dip one side to drain the accumulated water. Catfish

RE: Slide out Motor

Most likely the motor is on the underside opposite the slide. Have him skinny under the belly and you actuate the switch: do this slowly so there will be no possibility the your husband will get caught with the slide comming in. He can probably locate the motor by sound. Then he will have to cut the under belly covering materal to gain access to the motor. Catfish

RE: Has anyone's fifth wheel come unhitched when driving?

No one has mentioned it but a good trick to assist you in determining if the jaws are closed is to paint the edges of the jaws with white paint. This works on a Reese hitch, not sure about the other brands. Also makes it easier to check for those early morning departures when the light isn't too good. Has worked good for me! Catfish

RE: Unit fills with dust

Sometimes the bottom slide out seal does not seal properly when traveling down the dusty road. I have seen rigs with two slide out seals, one above the other, that stopped the dust leaks. Might be worth a look. Catfish

RE: Generator

Youy might have better luck with the install instructions if you ask over at the Teton Homes Yahoo site. Try Tetoners.org. Lots of experts over there. Catfish

RE: 50 Amps or stay with 30 amps and 2nd cord for 2nd ac

The simpler way is to just wire it for 50 amps with one a/c on each leg at the inside breaker box as stated before. You can always use a readily available 50 to 30 amp "dog bone" adapter if for some reason you just want 30 amps, or if 30 amp is all that is available at the campground. When using the 30 amp adapter, use common sense about how much load you can put on the circuits at one time. I try to use the KISS principal whenever possible. Catfish

RE: Tire Pressure Monitoring System Doesn't Help!!!

GY will repair the damage caused by a blow out if they (GY) determine that the tire had a manufacturer defect. The key is that you must save the tire and take it to a GY dealer. They will contact Ackron and get a claim number for you. They will also ship the blown tire (or the parts thereof) to Acklron for their examination, at GY expense. You will have to get an estimate for the repairs to your coach. If the determine it is/was defective they will send you paperwork to satisfy the claim. Shortly there after, they will send a check for your claim amount. Has worked for me twice, once on each 5er I have owned. Catfish
