RE: Honda Generator - Companion version

They do not have 13.3 Amp Breakers :) They have 20amp breakers for the 5-20R 1-EU2000i watt peak is 16.7amps and 13.3 Rated 2- EU2000i paralleled with the basic banana cables allows 20amps from 1 or the other Genset using the 5-20R using a 30amp Parrallel kit with 2 EU2000i allows up to 30amps from the Kit's TT30r With the addition of the Companion model you do not need the 30amp Parallel kit with the TT-30 but will need the L5-30R to TT-30 adapter. The generators have internal Circuit protection :)The website says it's 13.3 amps. So do both my owner's manuals. "AC Output 120V 2000W max. (16.7A) 1600W rated (13.3A)" You plug your RV into the standard model EU2000, connect it to another EU2000 with banana plugs and you get 20 continuous amps; not the 13.3 amps without the parallel cables. But, are you saying that using the banana plug parallel cables sold by Honda makes it unnecessary to use a 30 amp kit like many of us have made ourselves, or the $250 one Honda sells, thus getting 26.6 amps when using the setup described above? If so, that’s pretty cool. And to me the $100 could be justified. That's the big advantage that the Companion has, if you are going to buy two.

RE: Nitto vs Bridgestone

I have the Revos on my '04 2500HD DMax and really like them so far (2 years). I think the tread is a good compromise for highway and off-road use. They are pricey, but they should last a long time and give good performance.

RE: Teton Pass

No one said it was impossible--the pass has been widened and straightened over the past few years--it is the main commuter route from Victor and Driggs to Jackson. The grade is not bad and the view is fine--I simply wouldn't abuse my motorhome by taking Teton pass when there are alternative routes that are easier on the equipment to drive, equally scenic, and you don't have to hold up traffic. So, is it better to take Hwy 26 to Hwy 89, then North to Jackson? Coming from Portland, OR in a 29' motorhome, would like to visit Grand Teton on the way to Yellowstone. Yes

RE: Suggestions for Sawtooth Mountains, Idaho Itinerary

Usually get enough of a frost in early September that the mosquitos *should* be gone, but no guarantees. Not much rain either, normally. September and October are my favorite months around here - the river levels are lower, the mosquitos are greatly decreased and the temps are still nice.

RE: Suggestions for Sawtooth Mountains, Idaho Itinerary

If I was doing that loop, I would try the following spots: Stop 1 - There are several BLM/FS campgrounds on or close to US 93 between Hamilton, MT and Salmon, ID and lots of water with the Bitterroot River and the Salmon River. Day trip to the upper Big Hole and the Big Hole National Monument on MT 43. Stop 2 - From Salmon, go south on US 93 to Challis and then ID 75 towards Stanley. Again, lots of FS campgrounds and the Salmon River. Day trip from Stanley up the Yankee Fork to see the gold mines and Loon Creek Road up to the edge of the River of No Return wilderness. Stop 3 - Head to Stanley Lake, Redfish Lake or one of the others in the Sawtooths. Day trip on ID 21 and check out the views down to Idaho City. Stop 4 - Back on ID 75, head south to Galena. Campgrounds between Galena and Ketchum. Big Wood River and smaller water for fly fishing. Day trip to Silver Creek for world-class fly fishing. Stop 5 - Leave early and drive to Ashton via ID 75 and US 20. From Ashton to Island Park are several FS campgrounds and of course, the Henry's Fork. Day trip to the Madison via ID 87 and US 287. Dang, wish I had time to do just what I typed...oh well.

RE: Trout fishing sites west of Mississippi River

Ok, repeat after me - there is no good trout fishing in Idaho or Montana. ;)

RE: Top 10 Portable Grills for 2009

Also bought the adapter hose so I can run it off of the larger propane bottles. Do you use the large tank (20 lb)? I alwasy find that after a few uses I lose pressure and flame. Very frustrating. I'm doing something wrong but don't know what it is. I've tried to only open the tank 1/2 way, 1/4 of the way, all the way on then back it off. Any tips you can offer would be appreciated. You might find a solution here: http://www.weber.com/support/faq/faq.aspx?id=1

RE: Grizzlies while boondocking near Yellowstone?

The road to Cave Falls Campground is marked pretty well. Head east of Ashton, ID on State Highway 47. About 4 miles from town you'll see a sign for Cave Falls, turn right onto FS Road 582. It starts out as pavement and turns into gravel, but it's in pretty good shape. It's about 18-20 miles but well worth it. Take your bug dope...the campground is right on the Fall River. Don't miss Upper and Lower Mesa Falls on Highway 47 - great waterfalls.

RE: Blowover

There's an RV dealer in Idaho Falls going out of business that has two new Alpenlites...one is the same model as yours. http://www.americanrvmarine.com/viewourinventory/alpenlite.html

RE: Yellowstone in early May

We're driving up there on Thursday (we are in Idaho Falls) and based on the forecast, the only thing you may get is some rain. You may have a little snow overnight but it will melt fast when the sun comes out.

RE: Great FS Campgrounds between Boise and Idaho Falls

I would recommend taking the US 20, ID 75 and US 93 loop starting in Sun Valley that covers the Sawtooth recreation area, the Salmon River from Stanley to Challis, and then back south to US 20 that goes to Idaho Falls. Here are some links: Sawtooth National Recreation Area: http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/sawtooth/recreation/campingsnra.htm Salmon-Challis National Forest campgrounds (lots of boondocking along the FS roads also): http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/sc/yankeefork/campgrounds.shtml Lost River (Challis south to Arco): http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/sc/lostriver/recreation/camping.shtml If you decide on a specific area, PM me and I can give you my experiences.

RE: Campgrounds in Clear Lake, TX area

Great suggestions - I will check them out. Some sites indicate that they are still recovering from Ike and to give them a call.

Campgrounds in Clear Lake, TX area

I know that several campgrounds south of Houston on down to Galveston have either been shut down or are full of workers due to Hurricane Ike. We are looking at going down to that area (specifically Clear Lake) to visit family in April or May. Any suggestions or recommendations for campgrounds that would be available then?
