RE: Wheel bearings When to repack

Dave H M, we won't be leaving for our trip for 3 or 4 weeks. If the weather cools off I might tackle the project. If it stays warm then I will do them when we return. Hopefully all will be good. Thanks Ray

RE: Wheel bearings When to repack

Trackrig, I've been doing them for over 6 years. After our last trip I had some brake issues and traced it to the right rear. Bare wire in there and repacked that one because it was off but it looked just like when I had repacked them. At the beginning I had some issues but found out that I had the spindle nut too tight. After that they always look like I just repacked them. Thanks Ray

Wheel bearings When to repack

Is repacking based on miles or time. I repacked them about a year ago and we have only traveled about 3000 miles this year. Just trying to give my back a break if possible. Thanks Ray

RE: GFI Again

Have you had bad luck with Trotters in Kingman? They are a lot closer then Las Vegas. Ray

RE: Brake issues on my 05 Montana

It was the clip closest to the magnet and it still was not visible until I too the clip off the wire. Finally found the problem. It was the wire clip nearest the magnet on the right rear. Clip had to be removed before you could see the bare wire. I disconnected and reconnected LF, RF, LR and then even removed the wire from the axle going to the right rear before I removed the hub. Luckily we live on a dirt road and very few neighbors so all the testing I did was easy. It never once shorted out when it was sitting still. It had to be rolling and warm/hot surfaces. Don't have much hair left but I was about to pull out what was left. Again thank you to all for the input. Ray

RE: Brake issues on my 05 Montana

Process of elimination the right rear is the problem. All wiring and connections seem to be OK. Can the magnet work sometimes and not work other times? Thanks Ray

RE: Brake issues on my 05 Montana

Thank you all. I had forgotten that I posted in Oct. when we returned from vacation. We live in western Arizona and that is when the weather gets good for off roading so spare time is spent in the Polaris on the BLM land behind us and I forgot all about the brake problem. This trip was unexpected and caught me short of time and I really don't enjoy pulling brake drums off so I was looking for other choices. I did post on the MOC site also but since most axles are not brand specific I would try more feedback here. The brakes are the original so I sure it's time to replace the brake assembly. Again, thanks to all for the input. Ray

RE: Brake issues on my 05 Montana

When they don't work it is all of them. I was wondering if when I have the problem if everything goes dead or everything past the problem is where I should be looking. We replaced the 7 pin plug last year before vacation. I am checking it out right now. Again thanks Ray

RE: Brake issues on my 05 Montana

I repacked the bearing last June before our trip and they looked OK. What am I looking for? Thanks Ray

RE: Brake issues on my 05 Montana

ScottG, that's my project for today. I'll crawl underneath and see what I can. Not sure if I should replace the tube wires first or pull the drums and look inside each one. Ray

Brake issues on my 05 Montana

Have a Prodigy controller on my 05 Dodge. Everything worked good for 4 years and then recently the trailer brakes start to activate then I get an OL reading and no brakes. Then maybe next time I do. It appears the harder I depress the pedal the more likely I will not have brakes. Any idea where I would start looking. Thanks Ray

RE: Route Info California and Arizona

Chris, travel the 79 from Beaumont to Hemet all the time. Just watch your speed. There is a little shopping center across the street from Golden Palms and on the east end a coffee shop called Mia's Country Kitchen. They serve a pretty good breakfast there. Really like Golden Palms and the fact the accept PPA makes it very affordable for a few days.

Water pump won't shut off

My snow birding neighbor has a 2015 Dutchman Razorback that has a Artis water pump. It runs fine but it won't stop running unless it's turned off. Any thoughts? Thanks Ray
