RE: Do I need a diesel?

I would say no you don't need a diesel but by your post, I'd say get a diesel because it sounds like you want one!

RE: Why does the market demand Diesel??

Because my "BIL" can't keep up with me towing his 7000lb travel trailer with his V-10 Ford F-250 going down the interstate. But in all seriousness, living in Colorado it would be a huge work out for a gas engine towing a 18k+ toy hauler around the mountains.
That's interesting. My best friend has a 6.0... I have zero trouble keeping up with him with my v10.. Maybe pulling grades in higher elevations. If you BIL can't keep up with you on the interstate then you are intentionally speeding excessively to prove a diesel point... Or his truck is broke.
Nope, no speeding was just doing the speed limit and plus my F-450 is governed at 81mph, don't think he was having any issues, we did have some good head winds at times. I would slow down until he caught up with me then I would get up to the speed limit and he would fall back again. I asked him at fuel-ups if I was going to fast and he said no that he had his pedal to the metal.

RE: Do I Really Need 4x4 when towing in the mountains?

The only time I've used 4x4 so far is when we're "roughing it" it in the mountains.

RE: Getting out of purchase due to over weight for truck

You just found a good reason to go buy yourself a dually or if your dealer is a good one, then they would let you out of the sale!

RE: Excel Wild Cargo

Talking with our dealer Excel will customnize, change things around like no other brand. For example the inside garage is 10' 6". If I wanted it 11' they would build it.
Excel sounds like a very consumer friendly company for accomidating personal request.
Hate to off topic but is there finally a dealer in Colorado??

RE: Tow vehicle - Raptor 37TS Questiom

Used to pull our old 3612DS with our old 2006 F-250, heck I even double towed with it, however it was only for one season. I even thought it handled it great up until the day I towed with my 2008 F-450. I'm sorry but you guys that tow these big toy haulers with SRW's have know idea the difference towing with DRW's is.

RE: Ridiculous price of Fifth Wheels

I bought my last toy hauler from this dealer and if I was buying a Redwood, Lifestyle or a DRV, I'd buy from the again, look at their pricing. Just goes to show you that the manufacturers have a lot of play money in their MSRP.

RE: Raptor 3018tt and F450 build up

Nice setup Randy, now you just need to broaden your horizons and go to other places besides Rampart Range, like Silverton area, Taylor Reservoir area, Four Mile area, etc.

RE: Am I Going Crazy

Well I went to the RV show in Denver and looked at bunk house fivers, probably my favorite was the Open Range and I also looked at the toy haulers, saw lots of sold signs on the toy haulers, one Fuzion model had up to 5-6 sold signs posted on it, obviously the dealer had more on their lot or more coming in.
I ended up buying this:
New Item
Nope, didn't buy a bunk house, love the Recon and it's functionality to much and the way it's held up so far, knock on wood!

RE: Am I Going Crazy

The more I look online at bunk house fiver's, I hate them even more and they can't even come close to the Recon, the Recon sleeps up to 10 people, holds almost 150 gals of water, has an on-board generator, holds 60 gals of fuel, the list of advantages are endless.
The toys are paid for so even if we don't use them that much it doesn't matter.
So the moral of the story is that I'm not the one crazy, my wife is crazy! :B And here's hoping she doesn't see this post! :W

RE: Am I Going Crazy

What do you ride ? Sell it and buy a RZR and she will want to go all the time after she drives it one time. :B
This is what she rides already:

Am I Going Crazy

I think I'm loosing my mind, the Mrs. wants to get rid of the toy hauler and get a 5th wheel bunk house, now in my opinion, I just think bunk houses look cheaply made and have horrible layouts until I found this which still isn't perfect but better.
DRV Bunk House
Now of course I'd get rid of the toys also hence the reason I think I'm loosing my mind, I love camping, I love riding and when both can be done, it's a bonus. I can honestly say we've done more camping and not so much riding, the better half just isn't into riding like she once was. :( I've also told the Mrs that we already have a bunk house, they just happen to come down from the ceiling and they're in the garage area, but it's bunks right?? :B
So I guess I'll be going to the Denver RV show this weekend and looking around to see what's out there, I guarantee there won't be no DRV bunk house to look at.

RE: Bugs on the front of the 5th wheel from traveling

I think micro fiber cloths with soap & water take the bugs off easy.

RE: Cold Weather Travel Precautions

Take your time Slick and you'll be fine, we bought our last toy hauler back in Indiana in February and when we left the dealer it was snowing and the interstates were basically icy all the way through Iowa, saw some guys that "professional RV Haulers" jack-knifed with new RV's heading west.

RE: Question on the map of states visited...

We don't have one but if we did we would only add states that we've physically camped in. It be like saying we've been to North Carolina but in all reality we just had a layover in Raleigh on our way to the Bahamas.

RE: What kind of gas mileage do you get towing?

I used to check mileage when I first bought the 08' F-450 but then asked myself why, it is what it is. Then once heading home from the SW corner of Colorado the needle seemed like it wasn't moving very fast so when I fueled up I checked the mileage and got about 9mpg. ;) Of course this was all back roads which the speed limit was 65 and under. After fueling up and hitting the interstate, my mileage was back to the normal 6-6.5mpg. ;)

RE: underbelly cover

Please educate me, if an RV doesn't have the underbelly cover, what protects everything (holding tanks, pipes, insulation, etc.) from water spray on raining days going down the roads or in muddy conditions like I've done a few times over the years?? I can't imagine mud getting caked up under the trailer.
