RE: Smartphones - what can you do with them?

Another use not yet mentioned is to monitor any IP cameras you may have at your sticks & bricks.
So, just in case my DW gets lonesome while we're traveling, she can stare at our front door to her hearts content - or watch any activity at our mailbox, the rear yard area, or other rooms in the house.
Each cam has a micro SD card installed which records continuously. All this is accessible for viewing anywhere in the world via internet on our Iphones. The cams can be set up to email us when sensing movement, etc.
In case we are burglarized while away, I'm planning to call the local coppers, tell them about the SD chip to view the dastardly deed, arrest the perps, and email us when we should return to reclaim our goods. :C
I agree, smart phone to view security cams. I have a Q SEE system that also has a pan tilt zoom cam as well as 8 day / night cams and love it. I too can monitor from the smart phone and control the PTZ cam. The best feature is I have the front door cam set to email me 3 pictures of what tripped motion. I get 3 pics emailed to me of what tripped the cam within in 2 minutes on my smart phone.
Here is a pic of a special delivery at my front door cam :E

RE: Opinions On GPS Unit Needed Please

If you have an Android tablet with a GPS feature, you might consider Copilot Life Premium. Copilot has a RV stting that works pretty good. I resently used it in my motorhome for atrip from Wisconsin to Florida and back. It worked great and is cheap (around $10)
X2 I am amazed with Copilot premium on my android Samsung g3 phone.
It is my preferd gps and I have 5 Garmins ( some relics) :B

RE: Charging w/Honda going down the road.

If your truck alternator is working 100% it should do just fine.
Might want to upgrade the alternator but that would be best bet for just charging trailer batts while driving. All the over road trucks have multi batteries and heavy alternator to keep charged.
You may have things draining trailer batts faster then charging can keep up or just week batts in trailer.
I also run my genny on road but only if I need the air on for a while before getting to location.

RE: You'll bring me a tire?

we have platinum and 2 times they came to unlock my son's jeep when he locked keys in car.
last year my wifes car got a flat tire and good sams called local towing company and was there in 20 minutes to change the spare.
Platinum covers any personal or rv that any family member drives that lives at home. I think the age limit is 22 on your kids

RE: GARMIN GPS, not happy any more

For those interested in Copilot Live GPS for phone
It does in fact have a RV mode to use for your trip planning and guidance.
CoPilot Live
CoPilot has had the trucking versions for OTR truckers in GPS devices for many years and now with all the smart phones the MOBIL versions are every where

RE: Just upgraded from a 1979 to a 1995 prowler! Yippee!

there may be a battery disconnect switch that is turned off and this would also prevent charging batts if plugged in.
Also might want to start off with new batts.
Both batts charge at same time hooked up in parallel is normal practice.
Just hook up charger on correct terminals

RE: I just don't get it

Credit and a pen to sign name is power full thing.
Also how many of the same people wish they did not get 10 year plan but were caught up in moment when signing.
I love walking around at shows and rv parks looking at all the expensive RV's
That said my 96 Powerstroke and my 95 fiver is all we need to have great and untaxing travels. I still get to look but that is fine too.

RE: GARMIN GPS, not happy any more

Ok, so you highlighted where I explained that it was the GPS software you use and NOT THE PHONE as you said. Try to understand the difference.
I don't CARE whether it is the software or the phone. When my wife needed it, it didn't work. Since the software is not usable without the phone, to me, my original assertion that using the phone for GPS with no signal doesn't work is accurate. At least it didn't for my wife.
Others need to know of that possibility to try to stay out of trouble when relying only on the phone's GPS.
If you are on Sprint, that explains it. I went to Verizon and night and day better.
In my mack dump truck that has a cab sheild, garmin gps does not get signal unless i hook up remote antenna.
My phone running copilot never has a problem and no antenna.
Driving in big cities gps is very spotty from tall buildings.
Just pointing out that phone navigation is here and works great.
Don't underestimate what is working.
10 years ago no one trusted a gps in car but only used paper maps

RE: GARMIN GPS, not happy any more

QUOTED FROM COPILOT PAGE ;) I have this and it works CoPilot - Android
Detailed street maps of the U.S. and Canada* are stored on-board your Android device so there's no need to use your mobile service or data plan to navigate to your destination or worry about losing directions when you travel out of coverag

RE: GARMIN GPS, not happy any more

For those of you (us) who use the phone as the GPS, remember that if you have no signal, you have no GPS. My wife found that out the hard way when I told her to take the Garmin once and she replied "I will just use my phone." My phone GPS is wonderful, but no replacement for a stand alone unit.
Not true at all. GPS works whether you have a cell signal or not. Wish people would not spread incorrect information.
The issue is with the GPS software you use. For instance, the Google Nav application that comes with most Android phones uses the cell signal to keep the map info updated. If you have no cell signal then you can't get new map info as you travel along. The advantage to this is that you always have the latest map info and it doesn't use as much of your device's storage to keep map data.
If you use an application such as CoPilot Live, it stores all it's map info on the device itself (just like a stand alone GPS) so no cell signal is required. The disadvantages are that you need to update the map data on a periodic basis and the map data takes up storage space on your device.
Exactly correct. My copilot on cell works either way and is great

your buddy is wrong!
Your trailer brakes have to come on with truck brake pedal or you are asking for a dangerous situation.
As stated the lever is for adjusting the setup.

RE: GARMIN GPS, not happy any more

I have many garmins and all work great and no problems.
That being said, my Samsung G3 verizon cell phone running
copilot live gps puts them all to shame and has live traffic as well.
Did NOT work with Sprint service :h
Works perfect since I switched to Verizon Wireless :B

RE: Anyone own a Champion Generator?

Maxtar - You can get the Champion 3500/4000 pull start at Tractor Supply for 279.00 and it will be more then enough. You can also find them on craigs list as since storm sandy people are selling them after using them for a few days and want to recover their gouged price paid.
I paid 600 cash for a new never used Champion electric remote start 7000/9000 12 days after the storm
