RE: semi full time no generator

crcr, Your experience is quite unique. Hopefully you contacted the Mr Heater company with your experience. If you had that bad a experience when there are thousands of us that use them in our RV's they should have a opportunity to determine the cause. Just returning it to the seller without them having a chance to examine it at the factory does noone any good. Jim

RE: exhaust extension small crack repair

A quick easy fix would be a band clamp from a heavy truck parts department. Jim

RE: Combining a 6v bank with existing 12v bank

Hook them all together. Don't separate them into two banks. It will work just fine. Jim

RE: Help with converter and battery charging...

Thats a 35a converter. Your Honda EU2000i will drive a 60a converter. There are a number of good converters that would speed up your recharging process. I would suggest you talk to Randy at Bestconverters.com for advice on what would be best. A bigger converter would be a lot more tidy than fooling with portable chargers. Jim

Tuna, Our first motorhome was a '86 27' Class C with a 6.9 diesel. It had no problem starting at 0 degrees. Sounds like your glow plugs didn't work. Jim

Sunday is always a good day to enter a State Park. Many that have to work for a living will be leaving. Jim

RE: semi full time no generator

Tuna, The generator I have in the sound deadening box that I have posted pictures of here before is a EU1000i Honda. It will drive a 40a converter and no more. It has well over 1500 hours on it and it still starts first pull when the solar output is not sufficient for our needs and that is quite often in Winter months. I am 73 years old with severe arthritis and pulling the start cord is no problem. Electric start would be a waste of money and unwanted additional weight (Gen weights 29#). I have added a remote mag grounding button inside so I don't have to go outside to shut it off when generator hours apply. I have a 3 gallon outboard gas tank connected to it and when it has to run most of the day that tank will last close to a week. Honda EU series is the only portable generator that has a fuel pump to make a remote fuel tank work properly. Jim

RE: semi full time no generator

If I read what you posted right you are considering a large alternator on your toad to charge your battery bank that will drive a 1000w PSW inverter that will power a PD40a converter. ????????? I am assuming you will have a large alternator to provide the power to the inverter. On second thought I can't figure out what you are saying.

RE: semi full time no generator

Tuna, .2a charge rate is not enough to maintain your battery bank if NOTHING is connected to it. You say you are trying to simplify not complicate your life. Seems like you are going the opposite direction.

RE: HWH Leving Jacks

Any reputable hydraulic repair shop can repair them. I had a local hydraulic repair shop disassemble all four of mine on a coach we bought used that wouldn't retract. They said they work on HWH cylinders all the time. Jim

RE: semi full time no generator

661, I know he has a solar system. As far North as he is going to be and as much battery capacity derate he is going to have with the temperatures he says he is going to be in plus the uncertainty of available sun light all together says to me depending on solar to make his plan work doesn't sound like much of a plan at all. When he says NO generator No Mr Heater I question that there is really a plan. What he is proposing to do is going to be VERY difficult. I hope for his sake it works. Tuna, It won't matter how many days your solar system has to recharge your batteries while you are not using it. If it is cloudy when you go to use it you will most likely have a battery bank down to 50% SOC in two days UNLESS you have another source of power either shore power or a generator. Jim

RE: semi full time no generator

Tuna, Do they have clouds where you plan on being? I have 800 watts of solar on the roof of our coach and when the clouds roll in the generator gets started. Solar is dandy but totally unreliable for a constant daily source of power. Summer sunny days I get as much as 42a output for a few hours in the middle of the day. On a cloudy/rainy day maybe 5a-10a. We are close to the Canadian border so probably further South than you are going to be. I would not rely on solar unless you are going to be somewhere in the South. Jim

RE: semi full time no generator

Heating with electricity in the scenario you describe is just NOT going to work. You are going to have to heat with propane whether you like it or not. Some type of propane heater that does not require any electricity. You may not like Mr Heater Big Buddy heaters but they are the most like to get the job done safely. We have 8 years experience using one for our primary heating source and we use our coach year around. No problems. If they were unsafe and killed people the Anti-Buddy Heater folks would post links to the times it does kill people every time the subject comes up but strangely enough that never happens. Follow the directions for venting and they are safe. Jim

RE: semi full time no generator

A Mr Heater Big Buddy Heater plumbed to your onboard propane tank will take care of your heating issue. If you read and follow the directions for use they are perfectly safe. We have been using that setup for 8 years now with no issues. No electrical power needed. If you intend to use your onboard water system keeping it from freezing will be your biggest problem. Jim

RE: Ready Brake question

The pedal to bumper cable stays connected in place permanently. The short jumper cable that goes from the bumper of the toad to the towing vehicle actuating arm on the part that is in the hitch insert on the towing vehicle has quick disconnects on both ends and its a 30 second job to hookup or unhook. Great system. Jim

RE: Honda generator purchase?

Both Honda and Yamaha are good generators. I give Honda the advantage over the Yamaha because you can use a extended run fuel tank on it and not the Yamaha. Jim
