RE: Every hose I get leaks at the connections!!!

Another thing, the cheaper hoses have stamped or pressed fittings on the ends. The better hoses have cast or machined heavier fittings which make a better seal. Like said above, make sure you use good washers.

RE: sharpen knifes

I had a Chef's Choice and didn't like it because it doesn't go all the way back and leaves a dull section near the handle. Those small ones you hold in your hand and draw the knife (or knives) through work well for me, then I touch it up with a "steel" like the chefs do.

RE: Does accumulator reduce water pump running?

I agree with the above, and I'd rather get a Home Depot one or one from Amazon or Ebay instead. Get a minimum of 1 gal size, no more than 2 gal and make sure its for potable fresh water, not for hydronic heating. I saw a 2 gal on Amazon for $22 plus 13 shipping.

RE: keeping fridge cold while travelling

Everyone travels with food in their refer. You'll get lots of answers on this one, but my way is keep the propane on, don't use 12v-it'll really drain your battery when you stop. I've traveled for prob 20 yrs with at least 4 rv's, always left the propane on, never had a problem. Most units nowadays don't seem to be 3 way, just propane or 115v. Some people just leave it off completely while on the move, figuring it'll stay cold enough with the door closed.

RE: Really, does anyone own a rig that DOESN'T give them grief?

My new-to-me 3 yr old Jayco C class has been really trouble free. It's a low mileage unit but still nothing has gone wrong including slides, roof, etc. My question is, how can anyone own an RV without being able to do lots of little repairs on your own. I have had to replace drawer slides, and a few minor things but if you're not handy with a drill, etc it can be a real pain. Of course this doesn't count all the upgrades I've done, such as large inverter, wiring changes, adding CB, satellite wiring, additional 6v battery bank, another tank flusher, etc. The upgrade process is really half the fun of owning one, though.

RE: Monument Valley Hiway # 163

If you need hookups go to Gouldings. If you can do without for a day or two, you really should stay at the Tribal Park right on the edge of the valley. Spectacular views at sunset/sunrise and last time we were there it was only $10.

RE: California Highway 1

Whatever you do, don't take 1 north of SF. Very winding, slow, and tight. Switch to 101 if you go farther north, but all the rest south of SF is no problem.

RE: TPO roofing

I agree with the above, use the Dicor self leveling for the flat surfaces, and their regular for the vertical ones. Main thing is NO petroleum products on a rubber roof. No silicone, etc. Eternabond will work ok if you get a tear in the fabric but I'd use the caulks on any seams.

RE: Oil filled elactric space heaters

Watts is watts, you get the same BTU's out of all of them. I use an oil filled one at home for our TV room, and in the MH I use a cheap small blower unit that I got for $5 at a garage sale. Works fine and is pretty quiet, doesn't take up much storage space.

RE: Toilet cleaning

I use Clorox Clean-up on the WC, basin, kit sink, and sometimes on the counters. It works well, no abrasive, and I don't don't use water to rinse it off-just wipe clean with paper towels (except for the WC). It's a great disinfectant along with the cleaner.

RE: Jayco forum

I'm not excited about the above forum, nothing but jokes and spam. Try Yahoo groups, the jaycoownersclub. Actually I get more info from this forum than from anywhere else (this, meaning the one we're on now).

RE: Central California Suggestions?

Another nice park is San Lorenzo County Park in King City on 101. About $30 or so for full hookup, right off the highway, restaurant nearby, and they have a really interesting exhibit of dozens of farm tractors and old farming equipment.

RE: Four Corners in 2010

I wouldn't go to Monument Valley without spending at least one night and morning there. There's nothing that can compare to sunrise/sunset (especially sunrise) when you're camped in the Tribal park at the edge of the valley.

RE: new orleans

We were there last week but not in the rv. We drove by the park in a cab on the way to the airport. I'd say its ok most of the time but for sure don't walk there at night. Also, it's a few blocks alright from the quarter but that's from the outer part of the quarter, not the heart where all the people are. Looked like its prob ok to walk there in daytime but better if you're in a group. Be street smart but that town is like nothing else in the US. Really interesting and full of history. Bourbon St is only an anomaly, the rest of the town is the real thing, with history going back to 1699.

RE: Cats, camping, & litter

Another thought that might work is a small carpet sweeper instead of a vacuum. Also, we have a small crumb picker-upper that we got from Fuller Brush years ago and it picks up crumbs really well from the table, you just roll it along. I'll bet it would work on sand in the carpet. Otherwise use a 12v hand vac. I don't know the answer for the litter mat, our box is in the shower and luckily it's vinyl outside the stall. I sure don't like litter granules on our bed, though, which is what sometimes happens!

RE: Will a new cat adapt to our old one?

Update on the cat situation: Little by little they seem to be getting better. Both slept on the bed with us, on opposite sides. They will now be in the same room together with only a few growls-at least the #1 guy doesn't run and hide in the closet now. I think it will work out, and no signs of spraying or marking. Life is good. Don't know what we'll do when camping starts again, I don't want to take both in the motorhome with the two dogs so it's prob cat sitter time.

RE: Are there quality RVs that will last?

I have a Jayco C class, which I'm happy with but I think for the absolute best quality, go with Lazy Daze or maybe the Born Free, as has been mentioned before. The only reason we don't have a Lazy Daze is no slides on them. Just ask an owner to see inside and tell you about them, you'll find out what they think right away.

RE: problem finding GEO method ingredients??

I think you have to be in an area with hard water to find the powder stuff. It's not in my town at all but we get it once in a while in small town groceries. I switched from the geo system to a normal bio enzyme type. Formaldehyde supposedly is illegal in Calif now.

RE: Toyota Sienna on a Tow Dolly

I can't comment on the towing issue, but we LOVE our Sienna. Smooth, fast, comfortable, just a great cruiser and really handy for hauling people and stuff. Honda is prob close, but not quite as good as the Toyota.

RE: Class C 6 volt battery setup

Do you do so much boondocking that you need 4 batts? I added two 6's to my existing deep cycle 12v and can go for a good week without worrying, then run the gen for an hour if I run short. I'm not sure about your wiring setup, I put a disconnect on the 12v and put both 6's together with no switch. Be careful about the weight, those things are heavy and the compartments are not strong. I reinforced the bottom and vented the area.
