RE: Portable Air Conditioner?

The single hose units are not very effective as all the hot air they vent outside is replaced in the cooled space by air leaked from outside into the space. IE if its 100 deg outside, you are using cooled interior air to cool the condenser and exhausting it outside. This air is replaced by 100deg outside air. The dual hose units use outside air to cool the condenser just like your roof unit does. Single hose units are VERY inefficient and approach 0% as the temp differential from inside to outside reaches 20 degrees or more.

RE: Generator Exhaust Stack

The Genturi is often on sale at both Camping World and Amazon for around $90. It includes the storage/carry bag for the pipe, adaptors and all mounting and support parts.

RE: A/C units

Actually the rear ac unit is much more likely to be a blown start capacitor not a locked up compressor. Recharging the front unit or attempting it is a waste of time. If its low, the Freon went somewhere and will again. These are sealed systems. If its not low, adding the fittings is a waste of time and adds a likely leak point.
Sorry but if you are not DIY handy, you bought into the wrong RV. If you are, try replacing the start capacitor on the rear unit before giving up on it.

Hwy 6 is a city street with many stop lights on that section. Its suburban Houston. No problem in a MH but not fast either.

RE: tires and ride

I replaced my Goodyear G670RV tires (after the 2nd blow out) with Bridgestones. MUCH better ride quality, MUCH quieter and better handling. They were also significantly heavier to lift, but doubt that matters much on a 22,000 lbs vehicle.

RE: 9 hours to mount tires at Jacksonville, FL Camping World

I recently purchased 4 tires from Discount Tire (national chain) and they were done in about 45 minutes. They included 1) great friendly service, 2) extended road hazard, 3) on the spot rebate, and 4) $100 pre-paid debit card sent to me 10 days later! This is my second purchase from them and won't be my last!
Discount Tire will not mount 19.5 or 22.5" tires so most motorhomes cannot use their services. They used to but will not even service the ones they sold.

RE: Camping World refuses to honor Replacment Plan

My understanding is that the gentleman I spoke to today was a different person than was on the other end of the phone with the clerk yesterday. Manager today, asst. yesterday but I cannot be sure.
There was little explanation. He asked what I thought should be done. I told him I thought they should replace my defective unit with the current model. He agreed and stated they were currently out of stock and would order and let me know when it was in. It was a pretty short conversation.

RE: Camping World refuses to honor Replacment Plan

A follow up.
The local store manager called. We discussed. He told me he will order a 7720 for me and will call when it comes it. He told me they are currently out of stock.
I will let the folks here know when he follows up and the replacement is made available.
Good to see this seems to be headed in the right direction.

RE: Camping World refuses to honor Replacment Plan

Replacement Plan: If You purchased a Replacement Plan, in the event of a claim, We will replace the product with a new, rebuilt or refurbished product of equal or similar features and functionality or, at Our sole discretion, reimburse You for replacement of the product. Upon replacement of a product, We will have no further obligation to replace the product and You will not be entitled to make any further claims for its replacement.
Thank you for typing that in. That is exactly the terms of the plan I purchased.

RE: Camping World refuses to honor Replacment Plan

The unit was not discontinued or marked as out of date, close out etc when purchased. It was simply on sale. The 7720 did not exist then. It was discontinued since that time after the 7720 was released.
The contract requires replacement with a unit of similar features. That is all I am asking for. If not the 7720 then another unit, the 7720 was just the most logical and lowest cost choice. Its not a model up, its a model year newer and its direct replacement.

RE: Camping World refuses to honor Replacment Plan

Sorry, its the model of unit that would be at CWs discretion, not if they will replace it or not. The only offer was far less than the contract requires and less than I spent. So far, the contract has not been honored and I have not been made whole. Lets see what Executive Resolutions comes up with. I actually hope this can get worked out. I wanted to be happy with CW, having done business with them for years.

Camping World refuses to honor Replacment Plan

I just spent the last 3 hours dealing with a very frustrating situation at the Camping World Katy, TX location and a refusal to honor a CW Replacement Plan on a GPS unit I purchased.
Sept of last year (2012) I purchased a Rand McNally RVND 7710 GPS unit from the Camping World store in Nashville TN while I was on vacation there. The unit was on sale for a good price and I had wanted one for some time. Was suggested to purchase the 3 year replacement plan so that if the unit failed, CW would replace it at any CW store. Good story and sales pitch if it were true.
I went online when I got home from the trip about 2 weeks later and registered the warranty.
Last weekend the 7710 locked up and died. Will not restart. Completely dead.
Today I drove out to Katy to exchange it. Figured I could do this on my lunch hour and would be an easy exchange. Not to be.
Upon arrival, they informed me they had to 'process the claim with the warranty group' and it would take a while. After several minutes, the associate handed the phone to me. The claims agent had no record of the sales receipt. I had the receipt and the registration confirmation as well as the contract printed online with me. Store had to fax the receipt in. After an hour of waiting and discussion, it was determined the Katy store did not have a unit to replace mine with. The 7710 had been discontinued. I told the clerk that either the current model 7720 or the similar Magellan 7" unit would be acceptable, which ever they had.
I was informed that since the current retail price of the 7720 was more than I paid on sale, I would have to pay the difference and the current cost of the new warranty and $15 shipping to send it to me. I was sort of ok with the replacement warranty cost and the shipping but not the $105 for the replacement. The warranty terms clearly spell out the unit is to be replaced with a current unit of similar features at CWs discretion. The associate refused to honor the terms. No manager was available so she called the store manager who also refused to honor the replacement plan. He told the clerk to issue me a CW gift card for my original purchase price less the warranty cost.
I declined and stated that if CW had no intention of honoring the replacement plan, I had not intention of purchasing a replacement from CW. After another 15 minutes of debate, the manager was again called and told the clerk to refund the original purchase price less warranty cost to my credit card.
I again said this was not the terms of the warranty and tried to point out the terms in the contract. I was informed that it did not matter what the paperwork says, they will only refund my credit card the amount paid, less cost of the warranty which is not refundable.
As this had gone on for 2.5 hours at this point and I needed to get back to work, I allowed them to process the refund and said I would take it up with the corporate office.
This was not at all the way I was expecting a long time member to be treated nor they type of mismanagement I expected to see.
I hope someone in CW management takes this up and makes it right.

RE: high test gas in motorhomes

If and when I hear a ping, I'll upgrade my fuel.
Jim
Jim you shouldn't hear a ping in a modern fuel injection engine. The knock sensor should keep retarding the timing to allow the engine to run on lower octane fuel, even if it is designed for high octane fuel.
The Ford V10 as with almost all modern Fords do not have knock sensors. Heck, even the ecoboost engines do not use knock sensors. Its an old and unreliable technology for detecting fuel detonation.

RE: high test gas in motorhomes

the one really good thing about premium is that it does not have 10% ethanol in it like regular does in so many areas.
Wrong answer. In areas that require 10% ethanol, its in all three grades as mandated by law.

RE: Electric Heater

Hi jcthorne,
I said the parts might be $80 to $160.00 I never mentioned installation costs.
Not even close. Easily triple that in parts alone and it still would not be certified for use in an RV. There is a LOT more to this than just sticking a coil in somewhere. Starting with a place to safely put it, then the controls and safetys. Certifications are not free and neither is engineering time. I personally think the CheapHeat system is very reasonable in cost for the level of integration designed in to the system. Not worth the cost to you. Yeah, we get that.

RE: Electric Heater

Pianotuna, we get it. There are ways to heat a trailer with a lower capitol cost than the upgrade from RV Comfort Systems. Not every one wants to get by on the cheapest initial cost. You don't like the upgrade package. Fine. Others do. Its well made, works VERY well. Its quiet and has no trouble heating my 38ft motorhome with 2 slides.
You cannot have an HVAC contractor install add on electric heat to a propane furnace in an RV for $160, please don't give such il-founded advice.
It is simply not necessary or welcome to belittle folks that want to do things at a higher level?

RE: Cheap Heat clarifying questions

Hi,
I hope this may prove a useful link: Electric Heat Strips
No, that is not a useful link and provides nothing of use to the average RV. Those are duct heaters for installation in large commercial buildings and require duct sizes and air velocities much larger than available in and RV propane furncace. They also provide no fan or temperature control or dual fuel control.

RE: THANKS FOR JOGGING MY MEMORY

No they do not work fine. I got quite tired of tripping over them and worrying they would get covered or tipped causing lots of trouble.
I don't heat my S&B home with a small space heater in each room and don't want my motor home jury rigged that way either. I wanted central heat on a thermostat, the wet bay compartments heated, no propane worries, a warm bath and water closet and heated floors in the bath and kitchen. None of which you get with space heaters. Since when was RVing about going cheap? Its about living well away from home. This dual fuel upgrade for the furnace does exactly that.
If you want cheap space heaters, perhaps there is a conversation going on over in the Class A forum about sticking a window unit air conditioner out the side window. They would style well together.
